"Ian called at noon and said the baby was coming. It's been hours, so why are there still no signs of birth? Could it be a difficult..." Mrs. Quincy was cut off mid-sentence when the old lady spat in irritation.
"Don't talk nonsense."
Jim Quincy also glared at her. "Bite your tongue! If anything happens to Cecilia, your son will be beaten half to death by his father-in-law."
Their daughter-in-law was inside, suffering in excruciating pain. As a mother-in-law, she showed no sympathy and only made snide remarks. If they weren't out in public, he really would have slapped her across the mouth.
Mrs. Quincy fell silent.
Cecilia Adler tossed and turned for half the night, but there were still no signs of the baby coming. Seeing the time for his departure drawing closer, Ian Quincy was filled with burning anxiety.
He managed to hold on until two-thirty in the morning, only to feel unwell all over, his head splitting as if it were about to burst open.
