Chapter 21 - Bad Judgment 2

(Maëva's POV)

"Okay," he said reluctantly.

Before starting, it's about getting going.

I lost my gaze in the landscape

– (I feel unwell,... I want to go for a walk again)

I was thinking to myself

"We've arrived," murmured the driver, his tone either reproachful or dissatisfied.

Tapping the steering wheel with his fingertip

I observe him for a moment and then turn away.

– hha~, I murmured

The journey was so calm that I felt free for a moment, forgetting that I had returned "to her home".

"Miss?" murmured the driver, clearly annoyed.

I got out and slammed the door behind me, waiting for him to drive away in the car.

- here we go

I rush towards the east gate and climb the wall that divides the house in two, I fall into the courtyard and escape backwards towards the living room, checking my rear

Toc toc toc !

I knock for the first time

Nothing

I touched, I touched, touched, touched

Impatiently striking, he glanced left and right.

– f-faste

I murmured, knocking at the door

– MISS Maëva?,

A voice called out

I froze, clutching my chest, on the verge of a crisis; I felt my insides melt.

And my heart falls

I turned around slowly

"Is that you?" I murmured, catching my breath.

An old woman, "Mother's" maid, is even more frightening than usual.

"Where's Mom?" I continued immediately.

She put down her large basin and blew a big sigh of relief.

I don't have all that time

She continued anyway, and as she stretched, her old bones creaked.

– madam isn't here, ha~

– hhe, she went to the village to see her father

I bit my lip and let go of the living room door handle; he almost died.

"Okay," I said.

Without waiting for another sentence, I rushed towards the wall and climbed again, just in time, before that driver returned.

He looks at me until he disappears behind the house.

I quickly dust myself off and make myself presentable again before venturing into the dragon's lair.

– Good evening, Mother

She was still sitting in front of the television, following a pointless newspaper while turning the pages of her Bible.

Silence

Only the background noise of the television had the decency to answer me.

She is always in a good mood.

"We have PE class this afternoon," I continued.

I felt her touch

She finally turned around, facing me.

She took off her glasses and placed them right next to her Bible, which was delicately placed on the table in front of her.

She landed, stepping one foot over the other.

"This activity wasn't mentioned in your timetable," she asked in a very stern tone.

"We were only informed now, today," I said defensively.

She looked me up and down and turned away

– Go ahead, I'll accept the truth of your words after I've called the school

I stick my tongue out and restrain myself from giving her the finger; anyway, she's not looking at me.

– (Take this)

Adding his finger

"Okay, I'm going upstairs to change," I murmured.

She wasn't even paying attention to me anymore, so I walked away and continued up the stairs, reached my room, and collapsed face down on my mattress.

"I'm starving," I sighed into my pillow.

I casually get up, take off my uniform, fold it to the side, and then head to my bathroom to take a hot bath.

"Even the steam is pleasant," I murmured, slipping my first foot into the bathtub.

– nothing better after a shitty day

And I settled myself completely in the water, floating gently, rested my head on the edge, and fixed my eyes on my wall clock.

13h40

The hands of the clock are turning...

I have plenty of time…

Time…

Turn…

Turn…

Turn…

Turn…

Turn…

She let herself be lulled by the water and the clock, sinking into a more than pleasant sleep.

Tic ! Tac !

The clock was getting a little too noisy.

The clock... The clock?

THE TIME, THE TIME

– AHA!, I'm late

I jump from the already cold water, splashing around the edge of the bathtub.

15h20

Shit

15h

20 minutes too many

– I'm screwed

Ouch

I almost collapsed in all that water; my ankle slipped, but it didn't stop me from running around naked. I grabbed a towel quickly and dried myself as best I could.

– (Why am I rushing? I'm already late.)

By calming down a little

– No, she'll find out, she'll kill me

I resume my run and put on my outfit as quickly as possible, grabbing my running shoes, a bag, my watch, slipping on sandals, and heading down the stairs.

More

Let's calm down

I regained my composure in time and slowed my pace before waiting for the shoes to be put back on.

– See you later, Mother

And I speed off knowing she won't even notice.

I put my sneakers in my bag and hop on the first motorcycle that comes along.

– (thank goodness I won't have to run to the sidewalk to find one)

– Hey taxi, I'm going to the edge of the tongue of bê, I have 200

The motorcycle stopped

"Madam, it's 400," the driver called out.

I clench my jaw

– (that's not really it)

I glanced down at my wrist

15h 35 MINUTE

"Let's go!" I shouted, rushing onto the motorcycle.

I'll get it from him later

I glared at my watch every second.

Faster, faster

The motorcycle was too slow, so slow that we arrived at the field at 3:50 PM.

I go downstairs and reluctantly hand him the money.

– (to scam)

A smile on her lips

I'm late but… I don't understand

– What is this joke?
