In Jujutsu Kaisen, Hajime Kashimo—also known as the God of Lightning—was a sorcerer from 400 years ago who was reincarnated by Kenjaku during the Culling Games. Hajime is the perfect example of a jujutsu sorcerer from the past who lived solely to fight strong opponents.
His cursed energy possesses the properties of an electric current, placing his body in a constant state of electrification. This makes Kashimo's cursed-energy-reinforced physical attacks nearly impossible to defend against, as his strikes shock opponents upon impact.
Ethan has accomplished something similar to Kashimo's CET—though far more destructive—due to his immense cursed energy reserves.
Almost two years ago, Ethan recklessly made a Binding Vow that forbade him from fully summoning Nue. In exchange, each aspect of Nue, when summoned separately, was amplified tenfold by removing the natural cursed energy limitations of his technique.
With proper cursed energy control and two years of practice, Ethan reached top speeds of Mach 10 while flying, all without losing focus. However, the true power boost came from the change in his cursed energy trait.
A jujutsu sorcerer's inherent Cursed Energy Trait (CET)—such as electricity or extreme roughness—is typically fixed, as it is a unique, innate property of their energy.
However, Tora, using advanced manipulation of the cursed energy of his bird shikigami Nue, created a switch that allows Ethan to turn his electrical CET on and off—flexibly shifting between his normal trait and his electrical one.
When fighting with his electrical CET activated, Ethan can kill weaker special grades in one or two blows. In this state, his five senses are heightened to an astonishing degree—so much so that he cannot sleep with it active, as even the smallest disturbance hundreds of meters away would wake him.
His natural ground speed also receives a massive boost, though he cannot use both his electrical CET and Nue's wings simultaneously due to the Binding Vow.
Ethan also remembered Kashimo's conversation with Sukuna about love.
The Lightning Sorcerer had asked Sukuna whether he was born the strongest or earned that title later in life.
Hajime could never connect with others or show kindness, knowing nothing of weakness. He viewed everyone else as "brittle as the dirt" beneath his feet. His question to the King of Curses was whether true strength meant solitude—or whether it was a cross the strongest were forced to bear in their endless pursuit of power.
In the end, Sukuna taught Hajime that expressing strength itself is love, and that Kashimo was greedy for lamenting solitude. In death, Hajime smiled and accepted Sukuna's reasoning.
Ethan remembered Sukuna's famous line spoken during Kashimo's final moments:
"Love is worthless."
Would he one day become like Kashimo—or Sukuna?
Unable to relate to others, incapable of genuine connection, viewing most people as "brittle as the dirt"?
Ethan knew deep inside that one day the world would know his name. He had no intention of hiding his strength. He did not hold the altruistic belief that sorcerers existed solely to protect non-sorcerers, nor did he see it as a moral obligation. He knew firsthand that non-sorcerers were just as capable of atrocities as the vilest cursed spirits.
After a preliminary investigation, the Ancient One informed him that the special grade cursed spirit he had killed during the 9/11 attack had merely helped the terrorists board the plane unnoticed. The rest of the plan—the intent to kill thousands—came from humans.
Yet Ethan did not fully share Sukuna's philosophy either.
He wanted to find love again.
He had loved before—his parents and siblings in his previous life. He had been too preoccupied with college to find genuine romantic love. He thought he would have time after graduation. Maybe he would find someone in this life.
He didn't know.
On Christmas Eve, beneath the moonlight, Ethan and the Ancient One traveled across the Indian Ocean on an old-fashioned boat—tiny, enchanted, and ancient—designed to blend into the darkness while masking cursed energy and shikigami presence from outside observers.
In his previous life, the worst disaster of 2004 was the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on December 26—the following day—which killed over 225,000 to 230,000 people across 14 countries. Triggered by a magnitude 9.1–9.3 undersea earthquake off Sumatra, Indonesia, it remains one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.
Ethan suspected special-grade involvement.
Therefore, he requested reconnaissance parties from Kamar Taj be dispatched off the west coast of northern Sumatra, near Simeulue Island. Though unusual, the Ancient One had looked at him once—with a knowing smile—and agreed. She instructed the teams to be extremely cautious and to report back immediately if they detected a special-grade cursed energy signature.
Now he was here—on a boat with the Ancient One. Silence reigned until Ethan finally broke it.
"Why don't you… change it?"
The Ancient One turned toward him calmly, as if she had expected the question.
"Change what, Ethan?"
She was going to play that way, huh?
From the moment they met, Ethan and the Ancient One had shared a silent understanding. She knew he possessed foreknowledge of future events—but neither had ever spoken of it. Perhaps she feared what his answer would imply about her own existence. Or perhaps she knew he would never answer directly.
Ethan sighed. "Your death."
The Ancient One looked away toward the moonlit horizon, her expression serene—neither sad nor smiling.
"My death accomplishes something greater than my life ever could at that moment."
For centuries, the Ancient One had protected Earth from mystical threats, dedicating herself to teaching others the Mystic Arts and giving them hope. Among her students were Kaecilius—who would become her doom—and Doctor Strange, destined to become the Sorcerer Supreme.
Ethan didn't like the idea of her dying. After all, she was his adopted mother—at least on paper.
He wanted to continue the conversation, but they both sensed it at the same time: the cursed energy signature of a special-grade cursed spirit. It was nearby, not even attempting to hide itself—perhaps because the boat masked their presence.
Tora emerged from Ethan's shadow, rocking the boat with his size as he analyzed the cursed energy.
"Aah… a special grade. Born from the fear of water-based natural disasters. It must have existed as a cursed womb until recently, judging by its lack of control over its immense cursed energy. It has nearly half your reserves, Ethan."
That was troubling.
For it to possess such reserves, it must have incubated for a very long time—decades, perhaps centuries. How many disasters had it caused before today?
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Jogo—the strongest of the disaster curses—was estimated by Kenjaku to be equivalent to eight or nine of Sukuna's fingers, and each finger represented an astronomical increase in power.
The Imaginary Vengeful Special Grade before them was at least ten fingers.
No wonder it would cause such devastation—and they were about to fight it in its own domain.
Ethan didn't want to imagine how strong it would become if it succeeded in its plans for the Indian Ocean.
The cursed spirit sensed a disturbance near its resting place. Tomorrow, it would become the strongest special grade cursed spirit in existence.
Even in its womb state, it had ranked among the top five—though it had been the weakest. But after centuries of incubation, it had finally manifested in flesh.
Stronger than ever.
Looking at the humans who had wandered into the middle of the ocean in a boat, something felt wrong.
Delugor had been a special grade since birth, but he had always existed among curses stronger than himself. From them, he had learned the "stance of the strong."
The two figures in the boat possessed that stance.
Sorcerers from Kamar Taj?
A human child?
No.
Monk's robes. Bald. Female.
It couldn't be.
Among special-grade cursed spirits, nearly all had encountered her in their past lives—and it had always ended the same way.
Death.
Delugor retained no memories of his previous life, but records existed. He had been told how he died 300 years ago—killed by the strongest sorcerer of Kamar Taj.
The wretched sorceress had hunted him across three oceans. He survived the first two encounters by fleeing—but died in the third.
But this time would be different.
Three hundred years ago, the human population was roughly 700 million. Now it exceeded 6.4 billion—nearly ten times more.
And with that increase came exponentially greater fear of oceanic disasters.
He was far stronger than he had been 300 years ago.
