Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Edge of Heroes

The air at U.A. High School buzzed with anticipation, a mix of nervous chatter and the hum of distant machinery. I stood among hundreds of applicants, my heart pounding as I adjusted the Weighted Training Bands hidden under my tracksuit.

The U.A. entrance exam loomed, a make-or-break moment to prove I could be a hero. Superpower coursed through me, now stable at 15% after weeks of relentless training on Dagobah Beach.

The green sparks felt sharper, stronger, like a fire I could finally control. Dimensional Storage, my other quirk, had evolved too, thanks to a cryptic Gacha System update.

I could now store living beings in its pocket dimension—a game-changer I hadn't fully tested but one that sent my mind racing with possibilities.

The system's neon interface flared in my vision, its ding cutting through the crowd's noise.

System Update: Dimensional Storage Enhanced

New Feature: Storage of living beings now permitted (up to 100kg total mass, 10-meter range). Beings remain in stasis, unharmed, and can be summoned instantly. Use with caution.

Congratulations! You have received: Item – Sonic Disruptor (B-Tier)

Description: A handheld device that emits a high-frequency pulse, disorienting mechanical and organic targets within a 5-meter radius for 10 seconds. One use per minute. Stores in Dimensional Storage.

I summoned the Sonic Disruptor from Dimensional Storage, a sleek silver cylinder that fit in my palm. I stored it back, my Analytical Mind already calculating its uses—perfect for stunning U.A.'s robots or creating openings in a fight.

The living-being storage feature, though, was wild. Could I store an ally to protect them? An enemy to neutralize them? The ethical weight hit me, but I pushed it aside. Today was about the exam, not hypotheticals.

I scanned the crowd, spotting faces that felt familiar, like echoes from a half-remembered dream. A blonde boy with a scowl and sparking hands—Katsuki Bakugo, all swagger and menace.

A girl with brown hair and a bright smile, floating a water bottle absentmindedly—Ochaco Uraraka, her Zero Gravity quirk unmistakable.

A tall guy with glasses, moving with rigid precision—Tenya Iida, probably Speed or something close. They'd be my competition, maybe my classmates, if I made it into Class 1-A.

The exam's rules were simple but brutal: defeat robotic enemies to earn points based on their difficulty (1 to 3 points per bot), with a hidden "rescue" score for heroic acts.

The testing ground, a mock city of steel and concrete, sprawled before us. I tightened my grip on my resolve, Inko's words echoing: Show them who you choose to be.

The gates opened, and chaos erupted. Applicants surged into the city, quirks flashing—fire, ice, vines, explosions. I sprinted forward, Superpower at 15% igniting my legs.

Green sparks trailed as I leaped over a crumbled wall, Enhanced Reflexes guiding my landing. A 1-point robot, a clunky drone with glowing red eyes, rolled toward me.

I summoned a rusted pipe from Dimensional Storage, swinging with Superpower's force. The pipe dented its chassis, and Analytical Mind pinpointed a weak joint. A second strike shattered it, earning me 1 point.

More robots appeared—a 2-pointer with spinning blades and a 3-pointer with tank-like treads. I activated Minor Telekinesis, levitating a steel plate from Dimensional Storage to block the 2-pointer's blades.

Combat Instinct pinged, warning of the 3-pointer's laser. I dodged, Enhanced Reflexes making it a blur, and used Adrenaline Surge. Superpower spiked to 17%, my fist—amped by the Kinetic Glove—crushing the 3-pointer's core. Sparks flew, and I panted, Energy Efficiency keeping my stamina steady. 3 points.

Bakugo was a whirlwind nearby, explosions tearing through robots like paper. "Outta my way, extras!" he roared, blasting a 3-pointer.

His ferocity was terrifying, but Analytical Mind noted his recklessness—debris from his attacks could hit others. I stayed clear, focusing on my own points.

Uraraka floated a 2-pointer into the air, giggling as it flailed before crashing. "Gotcha!" she cheered, her optimism infectious. Iida rocketed past, his Engine quirk propelling him to dismantle a drone with precise kicks. Their skills were unreal, but I had my edge: versatility.

A scream cut through the chaos. A girl with green hair—Asui Tsuyu, I realized—dangled from a collapsing building, pinned by debris.

A 3-pointer loomed over her. My heart raced. Points were important, but saving her was non-negotiable.

I sprinted, Superpower pushing my speed. Combat Instinct mapped the terrain—unstable rubble, the robot's claw arm charging.

I used Dimensional Storage to summon a car door, holding it as a shield.

Minor Telekinesis lifted smaller debris to distract the robot, buying time. "Hang on!" I shouted, reaching Tsuyu.

Her frog-like eyes widened. "Ribbit, you're fast!"

I channeled 15% of Superpower, lifting the debris off her leg. Pain twinged my arm—15% was my limit—but Energy Efficiency dulled the strain.

The robot swung its claw, and I activated the Sonic Disruptor. A high-pitched pulse stunned it, gears grinding to a halt. I grabbed Tsuyu, testing Dimensional Storage's new feature. "Trust me!" I said, focusing. She vanished into the rift, safe in stasis.

I smashed the robot with a Kinetic Glove punch, its frame crumpling. Releasing Tsuyu from Dimensional Storage, she reappeared, unharmed but dazed. "What… was that?"

"No time!" I said, helping her stand. "Can you move?"

"Ribbit, yeah. Thanks." She hopped away.

I grinned, adrenaline pumping. Analytical Mind tallied my points—around 20 so far—but saving Tsuyu felt bigger. Maybe that was the "rescue" score.

______________

The exam's final minutes were a blur. A zero-pointer, a towering behemoth, emerged, shaking the ground. Most applicants fled, but Uraraka was trapped under rubble, her face pale. Bakugo ignored her, chasing points. Iida hesitated, then ran to help, but the zero-pointer's fist was faster.

No time to think. I triggered Adrenaline Surge, Superpower hitting 17%. I leaped, summoning a massive steel beam from Dimensional Storage. Minor Telekinesis guided it, slamming into the zero-pointer's leg to slow it. I landed near Uraraka, using Superpower to lift the rubble. My bones creaked—17% was too much—but a Senzu Bean from Dimensional Storage healed me instantly, my 18th bean gone.

"Get up!" I yelled, pulling her free. She floated us both upward, her quirk negating gravity. The zero-pointer swung, and I used the Sonic Disruptor again, its pulse buying seconds. I summoned the Shock-Absorbing Insoles, cushioning our landing as Uraraka released her quirk.

"Thanks!" she gasped, cheeks pink. "You're crazy!"

"Gotta save everyone," I said, echoing All Might. We split up, her floating debris to block the zero-pointer's path.

The exam ended with a siren. I collapsed, panting, my body aching despite the bean. Analytical Mind estimated 35 points, plus whatever Tsuyu's and Uraraka's rescues earned. The system chimed, unprompted.

User Growth Recognized: Superpower mastery at 15% stabilized. Heroic actions detected.

Congratulations! You have received: Skill – Tactical Coordination (A-Tier)

Description: Enhances ability to coordinate with allies, predicting their actions and optimizing team strategies. Effect improves with practice.

I smiled, exhausted. Tactical Coordination could make me a better teammate, vital for Class 1-A. But as I left the testing ground, a chill hit me. Someone was watching—Combat Instinct screamed it.

I glanced up, seeing a blonde third-year with a wide grin, his blue eyes sharp. Mirio Togata. His presence felt heavy, like Superpower recognized him. Was it his One For All? I pushed the thought down. I had to focus on passing.

_____________

Post-exam, I trudged home, my tracksuit torn. Inko was waiting, her green hair tied back, a tray of katsu curry ready. "Izuku! How'd it go?"

I hugged her, her warmth easing my nerves. "I… think I did okay. Saved a couple people."

Her eyes sparkled. "That's my hero."

Over dinner, I shared bits of the exam, avoiding Superpower and the system. Inko listened, her pride a quiet strength. "You're like All Might, saving everyone," she said.

_____________

That night, I lay awake, the system's interface glowing softly.

System Notice: Temporal and metaphysical stability maintained. Superpower alignment successful. Continue heroic growth to unlock further potential.

I frowned. The system was hiding something—why rename One For All? Why protect me from "complications"? Mirio's One For All was the real deal, tied to All Might. Mine was a Gacha gift, a fluke. Yet it felt right, like it was always mine.

I thought of the others I'd seen. Bakugo's raw power, Uraraka's kindness, Iida's discipline, Tsuyu's resilience—they'd likely be in Class 1-A if they passed.

Could I stand with them? Tactical Coordination might help, letting me sync with their quirks. I imagined Uraraka floating my summoned debris, Iida speeding to flank robots, Tsuyu's quirk paired with my telekinesis. Even Bakugo, if he didn't blast me first.

The exam results would come soon. I clutched the Senzu Beans in Dimensional Storage—17 left. Superpower at 15%, my skills, my items—I was ready for U.A.
