Chapter 98 - Ch. 98: Forces of Tempest

(Benimaru POV)

"We've won this battle." I declared. In war, a battle was won or lost before it ever began. This particular battle was proof positive of the concept.

We'd begun with a classic lure. Fake refugees lured Clayman's forces through a valley, to a place that some of our forces knew well, the territory where the former Orc kingdom of Orbic had been.

Meanwhile, Geld's massive force of High Orcs made pitfalls all over. By the time Clayman's forces even knew what'd hit them, a good half of them were buried in underground cells painstakingly created by Geld's high orc force out of Magisteel. Apparently, Lord Rimuru could interfere with Geld's stomach now, allowing him and his closest elite Orc Guard members to send and receive things directly from Lord Rimuru. For example, overclocking his ability and sending a small mountain of dirt to Lord Rimuru's stomach, where Rimuru would subconsciously process it into special, all-magisteel jail cells that could be pulled out of the Orcs' stomachs and perfectly fitted into the holes in the ground.

Once the pitfalls were triggered, Geld's 10,000 strong Yellow Force worked with Gabil's 100 strong, A-ranked Team Hiryu and the hundred or so flying beastmen from Carillon's forces to lock those caught inside. The locks on the jail cells had been personally designed by Risa, so they were all but impenetrable. Only the few who knew the code for the locking mechanisms had any hope of actually opening them. Brute force just wasn't ever going to work against those cells, unless someone had an EP transcending 200,000 or so.

There were only three on Clayman's side of the battle who could do that, not counting the Dragon Faithful, who'd sworn to stay out of the battle after yelling, "If you want our recognition, you're going to have to earn it in the heat of battle!" and throwing Rimuru's communication orb at Soka, who'd been tailing Clayman's army for Soei.

As for those that didn't fall into our jails, Tempest's forces outnumbered them by an order of magnitude.

Carillon's beastman forces by themselves numbered over 10,000, somewhere around B-A range as far as monster rank goes.

Then the hundred Goblin Riders, led by the new and improved Gobta. Excluding Gobta, they'd each gained the Extra Skill 'One With Wolf.' Basically, it contained two separate Extra Skills inside of it, Unify and Sage. It allowed them to physically combine with their wolf partners and then they could use Thought Acceleration to control their new increased speed. Gobta got the downgraded version, Unify, but his Starwolf partner, Rango had 'One With Rider,' allowing him to share his skills with Gobta while they were unified. Apparently, it was a pretty impressive trump card, though he hadn't gotten many chances to use it yet.

Anyway, unifying with their wolves made each Rider a solid A-ranked threat. When Gobta unified, he actually became strong enough to contend with the likes of a pre-harvest festival Kijin, making him a solid Calamity. By themselves, the Riders could probably win the entire battle, though I'd assigned Gobta to a different job at the moment.

Then, there was my personal force. Team Kurenai. Another 300 ogres, each trained by me personally. A-minus at the least, with some of them breaking the wall to A-rank.

And finally there was my main force. Basically, they were the unevolved version of team Kurenai. weaker, since they were still hobgoblins, and not ogres, but still a solid B-rank, earning taking on flame skills just like team Kurenai and I. Since Lord Rimuru had given them all names with a reference to the color 'green' in it, we called them the Green Force. They numbered around four thousand.

Technically, Shion was in command of another unit, but frankly, since she wasn't here, I had Hakuro keeping an eye on them. They were Team Reborn, and they were 74 of the 75 people that Lord Rimuru had revived. Since they didn't really die, I wasn't worried about them, but the vast majority of them had enormous power due to their evolutions, and zero combat experience. It was a real concern that there'd be incidents of friendly fire. With Hakuro on their case, though, that wasn't an issue.

And Tempest's final unit was Soei's. Only Rimuru and Soei knew the full extent of Soei's shadows, and I was fairly certain that Rimuru had the information deliberately wiped from his conscious brain just in case. He called his elite guard the Kurayami, Soka's team of Dragonewts, but I knew (off the record) that he had another team beyond that.

It was unlikely that they'd ever participate in a full-scale battle, but each and every one of them was an over-A master of Soei's assassination arts. Currently, Soei had Soka keeping a close eye on Middray, since the leader of the Faithful had already managed to spot and interact with her during the march towards Eurazania. The rest of them were keeping an eye on certain 'possible threats' while Soei used his Unique Skill to monitor the battlefield as a whole, to provide me with a second pair of eyes in case I somehow miss anything.

None of that was really necessary, though. We'd already won this battle.
