Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Me, Clara, Have No Interest in Money!

"Miss Clara, you'll be staying in this room for the next few days."

Asta led Clara to a relatively luxurious suite.

"My apologies," Asta said, looking at the room with a face full of regret as she addressed Clara. "Since the space station is primarily labs for the research staff, we haven't built many lavish accommodations. If you find this unsatisfactory, I can have a proper one constructed immediately."

"N-no, it's fine! I'm very satisfied," Clara stammered, her eyes wide with awe as she took in the incredibly opulent and sumptuous room before her. She felt like someone who'd never seen the finer things in life.

This was the first time Clara had ever stayed in, or even seen, such a luxurious room. What she considered incredibly grand and lavish, Asta actually described as "not very luxurious"...

Thinking this, Clara couldn't help but recall her own "simple" room back with the Stellaron Hunters.

So just what kind of hard life had she been living all this time with the Hunters?

"Phew... that's a relief." Hearing Clara's response, Asta finally let out a sigh of relief. When Herta had notified her to personally receive an Emanator, Asta had been extremely nervous. Up until this very moment, her nerves had been stretched taut.

She was terrified of messing up and leaving a bad impression. But unexpectedly, this Emanator turned out to be quite easygoing.

'I'll have the space station renovated starting tomorrow,' Asta thought to herself.

Even though Clara was satisfied with the room, Asta was not. She had already begun planning how to refurbish the entire station.

"Well then, Miss Clara, please rest well. I won't disturb you further." With those words, Asta turned and prepared to leave.

"Okay~ Thank you, Sister Asta!"

...

"Hmm... how should I stir up some trouble?"

Inside the room, lying on the bed, Clara had wrapped herself up in the blanket from the neck down.

"Mmm... this is really comfy."

Feeling the soft texture of the sheets beneath her, Clara narrowed her eyes in contentment.

She pulled out her phone and opened her account balance. A string of digits filled the screen.

[Account Balance: 1,000,046,382]

"Hehehe, hehehe, hehehe." Gazing at the one billion credits on her phone, Clara broke into a silly, gleeful chuckle.

'For the sake of this one billion credits, I'll behave myself for a while~'

Clara opened a shopping app, tapped on her cart, selected all items, and proceeded to checkout.

Enter password, purchase successful—done in one smooth, decisive motion.

"So satisfying!"

Finally experiencing the feeling of emptying her shopping cart, little Clara wriggled around on the bed like an excited worm for a moment.

In this era where the cheapest meal cost two thousand credits, if Clara didn't have the physical constitution of an Emanator—free from the needs of eating, drinking, and other necessities—she would have died countless times over with just the forty thousand credits she used to have.

Although she didn't need to eat or drink, Clara, much like a little girl, had a great fondness for sweets. So, every time she passed by a dessert shop or a bakery...

Clara would take out her phone, check her balance, then her vision would go dark with despair as she pitifully pressed her face against the store's window.

If she encountered a kind soul who took pity on her appearance, they might generously share a little with her.

But she had also met people who hurled insults at her. As a well-behaved girl, Clara naturally could only shed a few tears and slink away dejectedly... only to read in the papers the next day about that very dessert shop being completely cleaned out. smirk

As for those who simply ignored her, Clara would do nothing. After all, giving was an act of their kindness, and not giving was their right. She had no right to force anyone to give her anything.

But now, she no longer had such worries. Finally, she could live out those scenarios she'd only read about in novels.

'This one, and that one. Except for these two, wrap up everything else for me!' Then she'd nonchalantly pull out a credit card, putting on the air of someone utterly indifferent to money: 'The PIN is six eights. And here's a 10% tip.'

'Ah~ Miss Asta, you are my goddess.'

Thinking this and seeing the remaining nine hundred ninety million... credits left after clearing her cart, Clara instantly became Asta's most devout follower.

What was this 'god of amusement'? Never heard of her. For this lifetime, Clara would only believe in the god of wealth.

After emptying her cart, Clara clicked on the app's homepage and began her shopping spree.

"The latest model phone? Only five hundred thousand? Buy!"

"A tablet and a computer, together less than two million? Buy!"

"A cool sports car? Just two hundred million? Buy!"

"A planet-cracker starship? Only ten billion? Buy!"

"Uh... can't afford that one." Clara hurriedly removed the planet-cracker from her cart.

She continued browsing, adding anything that caught her eye to the cart.

...

"Ah... how anticlimactic."

Having finished picking out items, Clara opened her cart again and clicked 'select all.' Seeing that all the stuff she'd spent so long choosing only amounted to three hundred million in total...

Clara suddenly felt a profound sense of emptiness.

Clara slowly sat up, stood on the soft bed, clicked 'checkout,' entered her password, and completed the payment.

Then she opened her balance again. Over six hundred million credits remained, and Asta's five billion was still on its way.

At this thought, a look of deep sorrow crossed Clara's face:

"Ah, this money... why does it just keep growing? How come I can never seem to spend it all?"

Clara shook her head, reminiscing about her former self—the self who had to rely on cuteness and playing pitiful just for a single sweet treat.

"Me, Clara... the happiest moment of my life was back when I only had forty thousand credits in my wallet."

Anyone who knew Clara and saw her like this would surely shoot her an extremely contemptuous look.

'What are you even bragging about?'

"Remembering the past feels like it was just yesterday..." Clara couldn't help but sigh with emotion. Then she opened her phone again, taking another look at her balance to make sure her [hundreds of millions in riches] hadn't vanished.

Putting her phone down, Clara adopted an extremely earnest expression and uttered the words she had always dreamt of saying:

"I have no interest in money!"

"I, Clara, have no interest in money!"

"No interest in money at all—whoa, crap!"

Just as Clara was still lost in her own world, a massive explosion suddenly rocked the space station. The blast caused vibrations of varying intensity throughout the entire structure.

Due to the shaking, Clara lost her footing and landed squarely on her rear, tumbling from the bed onto the floor.

"Oww... that hurts so much~~." Rubbing her nearly-shattered behind, Clara slowly got up. She extended her spiritual sense, probing for the source of the explosion.

Upon sensing the origin, Clara's face instantly turned icy cold.

"Damn those foot soldiers of [Destruction]! If I don't scatter every last one of you to the winds today, my name isn't Clara!"
