Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: A Dragon Should Have Its Own Cat

The night air rippled with a strange fluctuation, sending out watery concentric circles.

A small figure carrying a hiking backpack leaped from the center of this mysterious ripple, landing steadily on the ground.

He looked up at the bright moon in the sky, obvious doubt showing on his tender face.

"Which world is it this time?"

After leaving his mother, Tike hadn't returned to Ultear's side as he wished. Instead, he had arrived in a completely unfamiliar alternate world.

In that world, the concentration of magic particles in the air was extremely thin, so much so that he couldn't use magic normally.

Fortunately, Tike met an older boy there with a similar aura and appearance to him, along with a partner who was just as kind and enthusiastic.

With their help, Tike regained the ability to use magic in just one month.

After waving goodbye to them, Tike embarked on his journey again, hoping that this time, he could truly return to the people he missed day and night.

Then he arrived in a completely "Magic-less Land."

Tike's first impression of this world was that it was a boundlessly huge playground, almost entirely populated by all kinds of robots.

In this vast sea of machines, the only other being like Tike who wasn't a machine was a little boy who looked about his age.

For no apparent reason, this little boy showed great enthusiasm towards Tike and actively offered to be friends.

Tike didn't dislike the boy's scent, so he temporarily put aside his anxiety and played with him in this giant mechanical playground for a while.

However, Tike's heart was always with Ultear and the others far away, so he could never truly immerse himself in the fun.

In the end, he bid farewell to this new friend from another world and embarked on the journey to find his way home again.

After that, Tike passed through several other worlds. He met people without magic in a world where magic existed, and burned charcoal with brothers and sisters in another magic-less world...

Tike got along quite happily with them, but he didn't stay long each time. The longest stay was only a little over a month. He traveled like this for about half a year.

These successive teleportation failures made Tike doubt whether he could really return to his original world.

Tike turned his head slightly, his gaze falling on the bulging hiking backpack behind him, and asked softly, "Alice, how's the scan?"

"The concentration of magic power in the air is at a high value, meeting the standard for normal magic usage."

A voice with a somewhat mechanical texture yet still cute sounded from the hiking backpack, clearly answering his question.

Immediately after, a pink cat head poked out from the opening of the backpack. Azure data streams flowed in her pupils.

She was originally a magical tool given to him by the boy with the same name in the other world to measure the magic concentration of the surrounding environment. Later, after being modified by the Kingdom of Machinery, she was endowed with artificial intelligence and transformed into an intelligent mechanical cat with independent thinking ability.

"Based on the comparative analysis of existing data, this place has not been recorded in the database. I cannot determine if this is the world you wish to return to. My apologies."

Alice lowered her head slightly, blaming herself for not being able to give a definite answer.

Tike himself was quite satisfied with this result.

"That's fine. At least I can use magic normally. Even if it's not the right world, I won't be stuck in a world without magic like before..."

Before he could finish speaking, his eyes sharpened.

"It seems our teleportation brought us to the right place this time."

Alice understood immediately and quickly activated her built-in scanning system to probe the surroundings. Soon, red light flashed in her mechanical cat eyes.

"Warning! Multiple severe personal assaults are occurring 1.5 kilometers ahead. Several deaths have already occurred, and the casualty count is still rising!"

"It's those guys, no mistake." Tike revealed an undisguised look of disgust. "They emit that distinctive stench of Zeref's fanatics!"

The thought that those guys from the dark cult were so close to him made Tike so nauseous he couldn't eat anything.

He decisively took off the hiking backpack and placed it on the ground, instructing the mechanical cat inside, "Alice, stay here and watch our stuff. I'm going to clean up some trash; I'll be back soon."

"Please wait!" Alice called out to him anxiously. "You just used space magic, which consumes a huge amount of energy. The magic power in your body hasn't fully recovered yet. It's not suitable for high-intensity combat. Acting rashly is too dangerous!"

Facing Alice's dissuasion, Tike just looked up, pointed at the bright moon hanging in the night sky, and looked calm.

"Don't worry. The moon is beautiful tonight; it's my home field!"

With that, Tike took a deep breath, inhaling the free-floating moon magic power from the surrounding air into his body.

Then, he exerted force with his legs. In no time, he crossed the distance between them, arriving just in time to see a bad adult, who smelled terrible, reaching out his dirty hand in an attempt to forcibly abduct a helpless scarlet-haired girl.

Tike didn't hesitate to launch a flying kick, knocking the person to the ground. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he stabbed down ruthlessly with a tree branch he had just picked up in the woods.

"Wood-Make: Cutting!"

This unremarkable tree branch suddenly erupted with astonishing growth speed, instantly piercing through the fanatic's body and wreaking havoc inside, shredding his internal organs.

The fanatic only let out a few muffled whimpers before losing all signs of life.

The originally small branch on his chest continued to grow wildly at a speed visible to the naked eye. In the blink of an eye, it expanded into a small apple tree. Among the emerald green branches and leaves hung a bright red apple, emitting a tempting aroma.

Tike didn't even glance at the corpse on the ground. He snapped off the branch bearing the apple, then turned around to look at the scarlet-haired girl behind him, who was still in shock.

(A scent I don't dislike.)

"Big Sis, are you okay?"

"I... I'm fine. Thank you... thank you for saving me..."

The scarlet-haired girl reacted as if waking from a dream, thanking Tike repeatedly.

After expressing her gratitude, she looked toward the village with a worried expression.

Noticing her gaze, Tike pointed in the direction he had come from.

"There are no bad guys that way. Hide there. I'm going to kill them all. By the time you finish eating this apple, everything will be over."

Saying this, Tike plucked the apple from the branch and handed it to the scarlet-haired girl. He then took the branch and charged toward the center of the village.

The strongest aura of evil emanated from there. It was where the fanatics were gathering, and he was going to wipe them out completely!

The girl clutched the apple tightly in her hand, staring unblinkingly at the retreating back of the small boy.

Even though he looked younger and slighter than her, he appeared so dazzling in this dark night.

Just like the hero fighting the evil dragon in a fairy tale.
