Chapter 32 - Entrustment

The outpouring of feelings from the depths of her heart was also a confession to Ye Xin.

Hearing it, the person involved couldn't help but feel a trace of joy. Under Xie Wan'er's strange gaze, he raised his index finger, lightly pressed his lips together, and made a "shh" gesture toward her.

She understood instantly and didn't expose anything.

"Uh… Duoduo, help me get a bottle of water. Momo, my arm feels a bit sore."

The two girls froze for a moment, exchanged glances, snorted coldly, and walked away. Neither of them bothered to serve him.

What a joke. Princesses born into great families, born with silver spoons in their mouths—serving others was absolutely out of the question.

Ye Xin smiled awkwardly. Had he misheard the voice in his head? He decided to ask Xie Wan'er.

"Did you hear that voice just now?"

At this moment, Xie Wan'er also pretended to be clueless.

"Hear what?"

"Uh…"

He tried calling Momo and Duoduo in his mind. The two girls reacted like startled birds, hiding behind the shelves. Seeing no one around, they whispered to each other.

"Sister… why can I hear that bad guy's voice in my sea of consciousness?"

"Me too. Let's not reply to him!"

Once they responded, it would confirm that their earlier communication had been real.

So embarrassing ah~

[Isn't team mode supposed to share inner chat? Did I get it wrong?]

Ye Xin felt helpless. The rare good mood he'd had vanished just like that.

The Fourth Day of the Apocalypse

The blood moon sank. Sunlight shone brightly. The earth seemed to have changed colors, returning to a brand-new world.

Yet broken well railings, collapsed low walls, ruined streets, rotting corpses, and smoke everywhere all declared the calamity that had come before.

Ye Xin opened the window and lazily stretched.

"No red… that's great."

His voice was hoarse and rough. People inside the supermarket gradually woke up as well. Su Duoduo rubbed her eyes and muttered, "I'm so hungry. Big bad guy, can you go cook?"

"Cook?" Ye Xin curled his lips. Really treating him like a servant now. Last night he made the beds for them, and this morning she wanted him to cook—did she really think he was some舔狗?

But her cute, pouting lips really made him want to take a bite. Ye Xin quickly dispelled that evil thought and lay back down to keep sleeping.

"You… did that on purpose, didn't you!"

Su Duoduo was annoyed. She wanted to climb onto his bed and beat him up, but with her sister around, she didn't dare cross the line.

"It's connected—the satellite network is online!" A bespectacled girl cried out in surprise, eagerly scrolling through report after report on her phone.

"Dragon Xia Nation has activated an SSS-level disaster alert! Breaking news! This is not a viral infection causing neural disorder—it's zombies!"

"In Magic City, superpowered individuals have appeared! Commanding thunder, transforming into beastmen!"

The video showed awakened individuals fighting. One human was wrapped in lightning, while his companion transformed into a wolf, moving like lightning as they slaughtered nearby zombies.

"In L Province, Dongying City, Lai District's Supernatural Research Institute suffered a terrorist attack. The infected are increasing daily and gradually evolving. The city has fallen!"

"In F Province, Nanxi County, a mysterious black hole has appeared, with exotic beasts continuously emerging!"

"In D Province, Dongping City, underground rat swarms have appeared. Each is as large as a cat and bloodthirsty by nature!"

Lying on the bed, Ye Xin listened to the broadcasts coming from the phone next door. He couldn't help but wonder where these reporters were getting so much information. The first three turns of the apocalypse had practically connected seamlessly.

"Momo, where are they getting all this information from?"

"Family forces. I think they're releasing these messages so ordinary people can grow stronger as soon as possible."

After asking, Ye Xin felt a bit stupid.

Awakened ones already existed before the apocalypse. He himself had been so weak early on and still survived—let alone those ancient families. It was perfectly normal for information to come from them.

Su Momo took out her phone and dialed a number in Tiandu, eager to get in touch with her family. But reality poured cold water over her.

The phone could only browse messages on major forums. Calls simply wouldn't go through.

"Let's go back to Jianghai Grand Hotel first!" Su Momo put away her phone and made the next decision.

Three days without a shower, only simple washing, and no clothes to change—anyone would lose it after a while.

Everyone packed up and prepared to leave. Ye Xin sighed and said to the few ordinary people, "If you follow us, I can't guarantee your safety. Whether you go or stay is up to you."

Actually, Ye Xin had considered building a force. Wasn't the definition of guild development about recruiting people? Of course, people couldn't be accepted randomly. Saying it like this was mainly to test their courage.

They wouldn't be coming back here for now. After his spatial expansion, he'd go crazy loading up on food. With Aunt Su Wu around, the issue of water was temporarily resolved.

In the end, aside from Chou Lijie, Li Fang, Zhao Ziming, and Wang Jie choosing to follow, two women and one man chose to stay behind—a kitchen helper and two girls.

If nothing unexpected happened, the fate of those two girls would be quite miserable in the future. He had given them another chance, but they insisted on staying. That was their own choice.

The outside world was eerily quiet, enough to make one uneasy. It was obvious that the surrounding trees and grass had grown a lot overnight.

"Let's make a trip to the boys' dorm first. I've got a buddy I need to bring along!" Ye Xin's original body's best friend, Xu Chu. He'd almost forgotten about this guy while focusing on leveling up.

Along the way, most of the zombies had been cleared out yesterday. Aside from the many corpses on the ground, they didn't encounter much danger.

The five boys' dorm buildings gave Ye Xin a headache. Shouting would be convenient, but it would easily attract zombies. From across the river, he could even see two creatures crawling on all fours with two heads. In just one night, they'd learned to eat the corpses of their own kind to evolve—the speed was damn near spider-like.

"Keep your voices down. Split up and search. Duoduo and Momo, you two stick together. Aunt Wu, take care of Wan'er and go to Building Two. Zhao Ziming, you go with Uncle Chou and Wang Jie. Aunt Fang, come with me."

There was still one building left unassigned. Surely their luck wouldn't be that bad, right?

Regarding this arrangement, only Aunt Su Wu had some objections. Her responsibility was solely to protect the young miss. Staying away from them felt like betraying her duty.

"It's fine… they're not that weak yet."

With Su Momo's signal, Aunt Su Wu finally agreed.

Four teams went upstairs, searching room by room. During class time, there were usually no people in the dorms, aside from the occasional sick leave student staying behind to watch little movies. And sure enough, Su Momo's group ran into one. The unknown smell in the room made them pinch their noses in disgust as they questioned the man's identity.

After confirming he wasn't the one they were looking for, Su Duoduo changed her attitude. With a flick of her hand, an empty sharp blade severed one of his limbs—the tool that would never let him commit evil again.

That look in her eyes was exactly the same as before.

"Oh… I remember now… sister… that pervert Song Qiming!"

With that reminder, Su Momo also remembered the traitor. Yesterday's battle had been too intense, and she'd forgotten about that wretch.

"And also, sister, that big pervert still hasn't given me the antidote… sob… does he hate me… is he hoping I'll just die…"

As they walked, Su Duoduo felt a little down. She always felt that Ye Xin didn't like her very much. Otherwise, why wouldn't he give her the antidote? And why did he keep calling her stupid?

"No wonder he calls you little silly. Duoduo, there's no such thing as Five Poison Powder. He lied to you."

"Ah~ then what did he give me to eat…"Su Momo didn't know how to answer either. Anyway, whatever he'd kneaded into a ball couldn't have been anything good. As long as she was fine, it didn't matter.

"Don't ask anymore. If he didn't like you, he wouldn't have risked his life to save you. You're the one he's saved the most, even at the cost of his life. Even if he doesn't like you, this man is still worth entrusting yourself to… Grandpa is fine, but as for Father…"

Children of great families all faced political marriages. They were no exception. Already disadvantaged for being daughters, they had even less say in their marriages.

Unless… they became so strong that no one had the right to speak for them.
