Chapter 91 - Ep 91

The forest did not return to silence after they left.

It only pretended to.

Feng Lihan and Mo Shan stood where the Snake Clan observers had vanished into the darkness, the lingering traces of fear still clinging to the air like residue. Burnt leaves smoldered faintly at their feet. The wind carried fragments of broken concealment techniques—proof that the encounter had been real.

Mo Shan's hands were still shaking.

Not from exertion.

From memory.

"They recognized me," he said at last, voice rough. "Even after all this time."

Feng Lihan turned slightly, studying him. "You didn't hesitate."

Mo Shan let out a humorless breath. "I wanted to kill them."

The words came out flat, honest, and dangerous.

"But you didn't," Feng Lihan replied.

Mo Shan's jaw tightened. "Because if I had… the Snake Clan would move immediately. And Lin Yue would be their first target."

That name grounded him.

Feng Lihan nodded once. "They were never going to act tonight. Observers don't bite unless they're sure the prey can't run."

"And Lin Yue?" Mo Shan asked quietly.

"He's already running," Feng Lihan said. "He just doesn't know it yet."

Back at the cave, Lin Yue frowned.

Time had stretched too long.

He stood, stepping closer to the entrance, peering into the forest. The night air brushed against his skin—and with it came something wrong. Not hostile exactly, but disturbed. Like water after a stone had sunk beneath the surface.

His chest tightened.

Golden light flickered faintly at his fingertips without his command.

"…Feng Lihan?" he called softly.

No answer.

Minutes later, footsteps approached.

Lin Yue relaxed instantly when he saw them—until he noticed their expressions.

Mo Shan's usual sharpness was buried under something darker. Feng Lihan's face was calm, but the wind around him hadn't settled.

"You took long," Lin Yue said, trying to sound casual.

Feng Lihan handed him a piece of fruit. "The forest was… noisy."

Lin Yue accepted it, but his gaze lingered on them. "Did something happen?"

Mo Shan opened his mouth.

Then closed it again.

Feng Lihan answered instead. "We confirmed a suspicion."

That was all.

Lin Yue understood the unspoken boundary and didn't push further—but unease crawled up his spine. His instincts had always been good. Too good.

That night, sleep did not come easily.

Mo Shan stood watch outside the cave, back against a tree, eyes never fully closing.

Exile had taught him many things.

How to survive alone.

How to disappear.

How to endure hatred without breaking.

But tonight had reminded him of something worse.

The Snake Clan didn't just exile their enemies.

They reclaimed what they believed belonged to them.

Golden life-element energy was not just rare.

It was irresistible.

Mo Shan clenched his fist.

I won't let them take him.

Far away, within the Snake Clan's territory, three battered figures knelt before a towering hall of coiled stone.

"We were discovered," one said, voice trembling. "Feng Lihan has broken through to six-star. And Mo Shan… he stands with him."

A low hiss echoed through the chamber.

"And the healer?"

"He is real," the observer said quickly. "Golden life-element confirmed. Capable of purification. Capable of restoration."

Silence followed.

Then a calm, pleased voice spoke from behind the veil.

"So the rumors were true after all."

A pair of slit pupils gleamed in the darkness.

"Do nothing," the voice said. "Not yet."

"Yes, Clan Head."

"Let the Hawk Clan guard him," the voice continued softly. "Let other forces notice him."

A pause.

"Prey tastes better once it believes it is safe."

As dawn approached, Lin Yue woke suddenly.

His heart was racing.

For a brief moment, he could have sworn he felt something brush against his life sense—vast, wounded, and hungry.

Golden light pulsed once in his chest.

Then faded.

Outside, Feng Lihan opened his eyes at the same time, gaze snapping toward the horizon.
