Chapter 88 - Chapter 89: Wild Cards and Final Moves

Chapter 89: Wild Cards and Final Moves

Garp's heart was a battlefield of its own. The sight of his grandson, battered but unbroken, leading a ragtag army of legends and rookies through the Gates of Justice should have filled him with despair. Instead, a fierce, prideful laugh erupted from him before he could stifle it. "THAT'S MY GRANDSON!" he roared, earning a sharp elbow from Vice Admiral Tsuru.

"Garp! Control yourself!"

"Right, right… sorry, Tsuru." But the worry quickly drowned the pride. Luffy was here, in the meat grinder. He was brave, impossibly so, but bravery was kindling in the furnace of Admiral-level conflict.

On the platform, Ace's eyes widened, emotion warring with terror. "LUFFY! NO! GET OUT OF HERE!" His chains rattled as he strained. He didn't want this. Not his little brother, not here.

But Luffy, bleeding from a fresh cut on his cheek courtesy of a Marine captain's blade, just roared back, his voice raw with determination. "YOU'RE MY BROTHER! I DON'T CARE IF I DIE!"

The revelation, shouted for all to hear, sent another ripple of shock through the ranks. Ace's brother? Roger's second son?

Akainu, locked in his brutal dance with Whitebeard, snarled the correction. "Don't waste your fear! That's not Roger's spawn! He's the son of the revolutionary Dragon! Another cancer to be cut out!"

The dual infamy—Pirate King's sworn brother, Revolutionary Army's son—only painted a larger target on Luffy's back. The Marines surged to intercept, but the group around him was a nightmare.

Rayleigh moved with a veteran's economy, his sword—a simple Marine blade he'd picked up—deflecting attacks with a precision that belied the deep spiritual fatigue Levi could sense in his soul. Jinbe was a tidal force, clearing paths. Crocodile sneered, sand swirling around him with malicious intent. Ivankov's wink-winks sent Marines flying.

"We need to slip away!" Buggy the Clown whimpered to his small band of awestruck followers, who now viewed him as a hidden king due to his casual familiarity with Rayleigh. But the current was too strong; they were trapped on the ship barreling toward the shore.

Their arrival was a splash of chaos in the already turbulent war. The Supernovas, freed and furious, scattered like shrapnel, each seeking a personal trial by fire. Zoro, seeing the path blocked by the world's greatest swordsman, didn't hesitate. He charged Mihawk, his three blades a whirlwind of desperate ambition. "THREE THOUSAND WORLDS!" The clash was brief, brutal, and ended with Zoro hurled back, bleeding, but having bought a second of Mihawk's attention.

Law's eyes glinted behind his spotted hat. He didn't engage Doflamingo directly; instead, his Room flickered around the edges of the Warlord's conflict, a subtle, surgical threat waiting for the perfect moment to teleport a deadly surprise. Doflamingo felt the cold, analytical gaze and his grin tightened. Annoyances everywhere.

Bonney, her eyes burning with hatred, tried to weave through the fray toward a bloodied Akainu, her age-altering powers itching to render the Absolute Justice Admiral helpless. X-Drake, seeing his former superior Kizaru, fought his way in that direction, a silent plea for re-admittance to the ranks now that his Kaido-shaped cover was literally dead.

Urouge, muscles bulging, carved a path for Luffy, his "Karma Fist" shattering formations. "For the debt of LV5!" he bellowed. Kid, with a roar, unleashed a whirlwind of scrap metal toward Vice Admiral Doberman. "TIME TO COLLECT A VICE ADMIRAL'S HEAD!"

The battlefield, already at its boiling point, now became a frenzied, multi-front brawl of personal vendettas and ambitions. It was chaos, but a focused chaos.

It couldn't be allowed to tip the scale.

"Alara… so many troublesome guests." Aokiji's voice cut through the local heat as a wave of cold blasted forward, aiming to freeze Luffy's advance in its tracks. Ice spears lanced toward the group.

Rayleigh stepped forward, his sword a blur. Shing! The ice shattered before it could connect. But the effort cost him; he staggered back a step, his breath frosting.

"Old man, you should have stayed retired," Aokiji said, manifesting an ice sword sheathed in black Haki.

"The young need someone to light the way," Rayleigh replied, settling into a stance. "Even if it's just for a moment. Go, Jinbe!"

As Rayleigh engaged Aokiji in a swift, chilling duel of swordsmanship and Haki, Jinbe and Ivankov pushed forward with Luffy. But another obstacle appeared, silent and imposing.

Mihawk stood before them, Yoru still sheathed, but his gaze was a palpable weight. "Interesting entourage, Straw Hat."

Jinbe and Ivankov tensed. Before they could move, a sandstorm roared in from the side—Crocodile, bypassing them entirely, his target singular. "WHITEBEARD! DIE! DESERT LA SPADA!" A colossal blade of sand screamed toward the Yonko's back.

Whitebeard didn't even turn. A slender, fierce-looking woman with ice-blue hair—one of his lesser-known but powerful captains, the "Ice Witch"—intervened. Her own ice-forged blade met the sand blade, shattering it in a burst of frost and dust. "Know your place, Crocodile," she said coldly.

The war was everywhere, a sprawling epic of clashing wills.

High on the platform, Levi observed it all. Whitebeard, though bleeding profusely, was fighting with the terrifying, final strength of a cornered legend. He had successfully reignited his crew's spirit. Akainu was holding him, but just barely, and at great cost. The spectacle of Whitebeard's enduring power was, ironically, prolonging the myth Levi needed to end.

The time for spectacle was over. The time for a definitive, crushing finale had arrived.

Levi stepped to the edge of the platform, his voice calm yet carrying an absolute, silencing weight that cut through the din. It wasn't a shout. It was a decree.

"Sakazuki. Stand down."

Akainu, mid-punch, faltered. He looked up, magma dripping from his clenched fist, his face a mask of rage and confusion.

Levi's eyes were on Whitebeard. "This war has served its purpose. The world has seen the old guard's strength. And its limits." He began to descend the black Reiatsu stairs, each step echoing with finality. "There is no need to drag this out any longer."

He reached the shattered plaza, the epicenter of the conflict. Marines and pirates alike instinctively backed away, creating a circle around Whitebeard, the wounded Akainu, and the approaching Black Crow.

Levi's gaze locked with Whitebeard's single, defiant eye. "You showed them you are still the strongest. You gave them a final, glorious fight. For that, you have my… professional respect."

He raised a hand, not in attack, but in summons. "But all finales must have a curtain. And this era's curtain… will be drawn by me."

He called out, his voice ringing with command. "Admirals. To me."

From across the battlefield, Aokiji disengaged from Rayleigh with a final, freezing burst. Kizaru paused his laser-light show, his usual lethargy replaced by sharp attention. Even the wounded Akainu, seething, recognized the tone of undeniable authority.

The three Admirals—the pillars of Marine might—converged, forming a triangle around the staggering, bleeding form of Edward Newgate.

Whitebeard looked at each of them—ice, light, magma, and the enigmatic, soul-crushing pressure of the Black Crow at the apex. He saw not just four enemies, but the end of his age. He planted Murakumogiri into the ground, bracing himself. A grim, proud smile touched his lips.

"Gurarara… come then, you Navy pups. Let's see if you can put this old dinosaur in the ground."

Levi gave a single, slow nod. The final, combined blow was not for capture, not for imprisonment. It was for erasure. It was time to write the last sentence in the story of the Strongest Man in the World.
