Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 — Greedy Hand and The Uproar

Besides the skill book, the Bronze-Grade Boss had dropped two pieces of equipment. Qin Feng didn't check them immediately. His eyes gleamed faintly beneath the dim light of the cave, attention focused on his system panel.

"I had one Evolution Point left," he murmured to himself. "This Boss gave me two more, making it three in total."

That meant he could evolve the newly acquired skill twice.

"This new skill can be evolved twice," he repeated, a rare smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "From now on, every time I kill a monster, there's a higher chance I'll get extra loot."

For a moment, Qin Feng just stared at the glowing words on his interface, his heartbeat quickening. He knew what this meant; this was the turning point.

The skill, Greedy Hand, wasn't powerful in combat, but it was unimaginably valuable. In his previous life, this rare skill's highest grade had only ever reached Bronze. Anyone who had it became a treasure to their guilds; a person no one dared offend.

He still remembered the envy he'd felt back then, watching others use Greedy Hand after a long, brutal fight. When the Boss finally fell, those players could use that skill and, by sheer luck, make a second drop appear. Sometimes that extra reward was ordinary, sometimes rare, but always worth it.

Now, it was his turn.

"And most importantly," Qin Feng whispered, "The 'loot' this skill can bring includes tradable lifespan."

His expression turned thoughtful. "But I wonder... does it also include Evolution Points?"

Technically, Evolution Points were also a kind of loot gained from killing monsters. It was worth testing. He drew a steady breath and said quietly, "Never mind. I'll evolve the skill first, then I'll know."

Qin Feng focused his thoughts and issued the evolution command.

[You consumed 1 Evolution Point, 2 remaining.]

[Greedy Hand (Bronze-Grade → Silver-Grade): Assassin skill. Can be used on monster corpses, with a 20% → 40% chance to obtain an additional loot reward.]

The probability had doubled directly. Qin Feng's eyes brightened in delight.

"Continue," he said immediately. He had two points left, and he used them both without hesitation.

[You consumed 2 Evolution Points, 0 remaining.]

[Greedy Hand (Silver-Grade → Gold-Grade): Assassin skill. Can be used on monster corpses, with a 40% → 70% chance to obtain an additional loot reward.]

From Silver to Gold, the improvement was huge. The success rate had leapt from forty to seventy percent, almost guaranteed.

"If I evolve it one more time," he muttered, excitement flickering in his tone, "wouldn't that make it a hundred percent?"

The thought alone made his pulse quicken. In God Forsaken Game, Greedy Hand was capped at Bronze. But with his unique talent, Infinite Evolution, he could break that limit and push it endlessly upward

"From now on," he said with a quiet grin, "Every monster I kill could give me double rewards. Maybe even more than double."

He remained cloaked in the shadows, the faint shimmer of the Shadow Cloak still wrapping his body. Without another word, he stepped toward the Breeder's corpse and activated Greedy Hand.

The air rippled faintly. A golden hand materialised out of thin air, reaching from the void to grasp the remains. Around him, twelve spiderlings still scuttled near the Boss's body, completely unaware that death stood among them.

The light flared.

[Skill 'Greedy Hand' successful!][You obtained 2 Evolution Points!]

[You obtained 46 days of lifespan (tradable).]

The familiar chime of the system echoed through his mind, and Qin Feng's lips curved into a satisfied smile as three items burst from beneath the Breeder's corpse.

"It worked," he murmured. "Seventy percent didn't fail me."

Two Evolution Points and forty-six days of tradable lifespan, that was a significant gain. The other loot didn't matter as much. The Boss had dropped six items in total, but apart from the Greedy Hand book and an Assassin weapon, the rest weren't for his class.

"I'll sell those when I get back to town," he thought aloud. Then he frowned. "But who would even afford them right now?"

In God Forsaken, the main trading currency was lifespan. Since the game had only just begun, few people had enough to spend. His gaze fell on the Assassin weapon lying nearby.

[Corroded Dagger (Bronze-Grade): Attack +35, Agility +4. Equipment Requirement: Level 1]

Without hesitation, Qin Feng unequipped the Scrap Iron Dagger and replaced it.

After levelling up to 2 earlier, his all-attribute stats had increased by 2 points, bringing his attack to 25. Now, equipping the Corroded Dagger raised it to 50, doubling his raw attack power.

Of course, Qin Feng knew his overall damage wasn't purely determined by that number. Much of it came from the devastating surprise strikes enabled by Shadow Cloak. The other four loot items, three equipment pieces and one skill book, were all Common-Grade and not particularly useful.

He sheathed his new dagger, eyes sharp as he scanned the surroundings. "Time to clear the smaller ones," he muttered. "Maybe I can squeeze out a few more Evolution Points."

The twelve remaining spiderlings twitched restlessly around the Breeder's corpse, unaware of the predator stalking them.

Qin Feng moved soundlessly, a dark shape gliding through the gloom. In an instant, his blade flashed. One spiderling convulsed, sliced cleanly through the abdomen. Before the others could react, he was gone again, dissolved into the darkness, a phantom that killed without a trace.

In these early stages, with Infinite Evolution and Shadow Cloak, survival wasn't even a concern. Qin Feng had already stepped onto the path of becoming unstoppable.

Earth

At Jianghai Normal University in Daxia, the afternoon class was in full swing. The soft hum of air conditioning mixed with the teacher's steady voice as he lectured about modern education theory.

Among the students, Qin Xiaoyou sat with her best friend Chu Yan, idly doodling in her notebook, clearly bored.

Then, something strange happened.

A male student near the window, head resting on his folded arms, suddenly shimmered faintly. Within seconds, his entire body turned translucent, as if fading into air.

"What the, Wei-ge, what's wrong with you?" his roommate cried out in shock.

The outburst drew every eye in the classroom. Even the teacher stopped mid-sentence, brow furrowing as he looked toward the commotion.

Students stood up from their seats, whispering nervously. The roommate reached out, trying to shake him, but his hand passed straight through the boy's body.It was as though the student wasn't even there.

Gasps rippled through the classroom. Fear spread quickly as everyone stared, wide-eyed.

"Little You, what's going on with Zhang Wei?" Chu Yan whispered, tugging Qin Xiaoyou's sleeve, her short hair swaying as she leaned forward.

Qin Xiaoyou frowned slightly. Her white dress made her stand out, pure and striking but right now, even her calm demeanour faltered. She rose from her seat gracefully, though her movements were a touch hurried, and craned her neck to see.

Only when she stood on tiptoe did she catch sight of the scene. Zhang Wei's figure slumped over his desk, body completely translucent. The crowd around him grew louder, phones came out, and chaos filled the classroom.

"Let's check online," Qin Xiaoyou said quietly, already pulling out her phone.

Within seconds, she found several posts circulating across chat groups. images of other people who had fallen asleep and become transparent, just like Zhang Wei.

The internet was exploding with speculation. Yet no one had an answer, because not a single one of those people had woken up.
