Chapter 34 - Business Knocking at the Door? Zhang Guowei's “Goodwill”?

Even Su Ping was momentarily drawn by what was happening over there, but he did not pay it any real attention.

This kind of petty matter simply was not worth his time right now. Instead, he turned his gaze toward the pair of twins.

When his eyes met theirs, the two of them also looked back at Su Ping, their expressions filled with undisguised amazement as they stared at the mutated Forest Wolf.

"That mutated Forest Wolf of yours is incredible. To actually find a pet beast like that… Seeing that you have so many Forest Wolves, does your family specialize in raising them?"

Their pet beasts had been taken away for treatment, and the twins had nothing to do for the moment. Seeing Su Ping look over, they naturally struck up a conversation.

After all, they shared the same pet beast species, were about the same age, and even had similar strength and standards. That alone made it much easier to talk.

"Yes. The Wood Heart Forest Wolf Breeding Base next door—that place is my family's."

When Su Ping nodded, one of the twins spoke up.

"My name's Zhang Wen. This is my younger brother, Zhang Wu—not wu as in 'martial,' but wu as in 'one, two, three, four, five.'"

Zhang Wu gave Su Ping a thumbs-up.

"Zhang Wen and I had no idea that the place next door was a Forest Wolf breeding base. If we'd known earlier, we would've gone over to check it out."

Su Ping smiled.

"My name's Su Ping. You two are impressive as well. That coordinated joint-attack technique just now—how did you pull it off?"

Strictly speaking, asking something like this could be a bit abrupt, but Su Ping was genuinely curious.

The brothers exchanged a glance. Zhang Wen answered,

"Our talent is called Mind Link. Zhang Wu and I can communicate mentally, and so can our pet beasts. On top of that, ever since we contracted our pets, we've trained together nonstop. That's how it turned out… Even so, we still lost to you."

At this point, Zhang Wen could not help adding,

"No wonder you specialize in Forest Wolves. The mutated one being that strong is one thing, but even the non-mutated one was terrifying. Most importantly, they're all so obedient. That's seriously impressive."

Su Ping smiled faintly and did not take the praise to heart.

However, the answer he had received left him slightly helpless.

Sure enough, training that kind of highly coordinated joint combat was not something that could be achieved easily.

I wonder if the shared-link effect of my Myriad Spirits Codex at Level 2 has any function like that?

Probably not. Shared-link mainly boosts pet beast skill training.

Shaking his head, Su Ping did not dwell on it.

After all, there was plenty of time ahead.

Just then, the brothers exchanged another glance and asked curiously,

"With how strong your Forest Wolves are, there must be an amazing Breeder at your base, right? Are there any paid services? My brother and I are thinking about getting our pet beasts cultivated as well."

Su Ping snapped back to attention.

Business coming to my door?

He immediately smiled.

"I'm the Breeder myself. There are paid services, yes—but this isn't really the place to talk details. If you're interested, you can come by sometime and we can discuss it properly."

The brothers nodded in unison.

"Alright!"

However, at that moment, a voice suddenly sounded from the side.

"Su Ping, you're also a Breeder?"

It was not Zhou Shuchen.

It was Zhang Guowei, smiling warmly.

At this moment, Director Zhang's impression of this young man—whom he had previously not taken seriously at all—had completely changed.

When Su Ping had refused the Scythe Giant Centipede he introduced earlier, Zhang Guowei had honestly not thought much of him.

The Pet Beast Affinity talent was mainly a logistical-type talent.

But now, not only did Su Ping appear to be on good terms with that extraordinary Beast Tamer who owned a Life Ancient Tree, he also possessed such a rare mutated Forest Wolf.

And on top of that—he was a Breeder?

Now, Zhang Guowei truly wanted to properly reconnect with Su Ping.

After all, they had been at the same school, hadn't they? At least in name, there was still a teacher–student relationship.

Su Ping glanced at the smiling Zhang Guowei and merely nodded lightly.

But Zhang Guowei continued,

"Su Ping, being a Breeder isn't something just anyone can do. For you to have this kind of talent really brings honor to Sixth High. Don't say your teacher isn't looking out for you…"

As he spoke, Zhang Guowei looked at Su Ping, while his hand gestured toward the young man beside him.

This young man had shown noticeable changes in expression only after seeing the Life Ancient Tree and Su Ping's mutated Forest Wolf. At all other times, whether toward Su Ping, his classmates, or the low-level Beast Tamers training here, he had maintained the same aloof demeanor.

All anyone knew was that he seemed to be from Fire King Corporation. As for what he actually did, Su Ping had no idea.

Zhang Guowei continued,

"This gentleman here is Breeder Jin from Fire King Corporation's Cultivation Division—Jin Sheng. He's a certified junior Breeder with the Linzhou Breeders' Association and has quite a bit of insight into pet beast cultivation, especially beast-type pets. You two can have a good talk about it."

Su Ping looked at the young man in surprise. He did not seem much older than himself.

A junior Breeder from Fire King Corporation's Cultivation Division?

No wonder he carried himself like that.

Before Qin Xiaoxue had arrived earlier, whenever people called, they would often ask about matters related to this.

Later, Su Ping had even looked it up online and gained some understanding of Breeder Association certification.

To reach this level at such an age did seem rather impressive.

Jin Sheng, seeing the hint of surprise on Su Ping's face, quickly extended his hand.

"Student Su, I didn't expect you to be so interested in pet beast cultivation as well. Don't worry—if there's anything you don't understand, you can just ask me directly."

His tone was friendly, but Su Ping frowned slightly.

Still, one should not slap a smiling face. In the end, he reached out and shook Jin Sheng's hand.

"Many thanks, Breeder Jin."

Su Ping could tell that Jin Sheng was not deliberately mocking him like Zhou Shuchen. It was simply that he was used to looking down on students like them.

Even considering Su Ping's unusual background and his mutated Forest Wolf, Jin Sheng was still speaking from a position of guidance in his own area of expertise.

Strictly speaking, this was also a kind of goodwill.

After all, toward ordinary people—even toward someone like Zhou Shuchen, who might become a colleague in the future—Jin Sheng had only conducted simple observations and drafted basic training plans.

However, Zhang Wen and Zhang Wu exchanged glances, each seeing the doubt in the other's eyes.

Clearly, if there truly were an experienced Breeder specializing in this field at a place like Wood Heart, that would be one thing.

But the young man in front of them—who was even younger than they were, clearly still a student—claimed to be a Breeder himself.

That made the brothers hesitate.

Pet beast cultivation was an enormous expense.

An ordinary family could not afford to gamble such a large sum on a Breeder with neither experience nor reputation.

After all, not everyone could be like Qin Xiaoxue, with money seemingly falling from the sky.

And not everyone had Qin Xiaoxue's astonishing way of thinking.

Such hesitation and distrust were only human.
