Chapter 2 - 2

The police arrived shortly after with a hero liaison from local hero team called Valor with disturbing news. Valor was a woman dressed up in semi medieval armor and seemed to be the definition of muscle mommy along with her gorgeous face and large breasts. The police sent a detective who seemed ready to retire and no longer had the ability to hide it.

Valor: We know that you've been through a lot but understand that you aren't the only one that has been affected. Other victims are still being found in similar situations to yourself. People locked into devices that were destroyed upon use leaving them little better than slag and no way to identify them.

Detective: Stop talking for all you know he probably did it to himself! Just because whatever happened to the other victims doesn't mean they are all victims! For all we know he could have done it himself!

In my last life I remember the cops being a bit competent than this practically giving me the answer of what not to say.

"I'm not certain what is going on other than the fact that I woke up in a hospital bed with no idea how how long I was in here last thing I remember was being at my apartment as I recently moved to the city"

Detective: Another dead end... so do your eyes just glow or do they actually do something?

"What the fuck do you mean is something wrong with my eyes!? My eyes don't glow!"

Valor: I hate to tell you but yeah, they do. If it's any consolation they are very pretty

"Give me a mirror!"

Detective: Hey buddy let's calm down...

"Give me a mirror now!"

The detective eventually saw that I wasn't listening anymore and became wholly focused on seeing my face to the point of fanatical desperation. He retrieved the handcuff key from his pocket and took me to the bathroom attached to the room. I was still the same everything was except my eyes that now had a rainbow glow instead of the dark brown from before. They glow was actually hardly noticeable unless you were looking directly into them yet another cosmetic change.

Detective: I'm guessing by how hard you're staring at your reflection that your eyes didn't look like this before

Valor: Can you not be a jackass and have some empathy for someone who is apparently going through a difficult time?

Detective: Fine, whatever. If you remember anything else about the incident just call me

Valor: And if you need assistance getting back on your feet after you lost everything...

"What do you mean by lost everything?"

Detective: Everything in your home was put under quarantine and or confiscated because everything in your apartment mutated including inanimate objects! Your lucky to look as normal as you do because according to the case log they had put your bed down after it attacked someone.

"Put my bed down like a rabid dog?"

Detective: Yup, biologist still don't know what to make of it yet as it shouldn't have been alive without any proper organ and technically shouldn't have died either. The only reason why you're not in some lab right now is they tested you already and the superhuman independence act prevents them from arbitrarily locking you up. The government should be sending you a check for your lost property they confiscated but it will definitely take a lot of time before you ever see it. The apartment owner wanted to sue you for damages but a quick investigation into the sub standard and blatantly illegal living conditions along with a bunch of other infractions and all of the sudden he was just concerned about your well-being.

That sounded about right the guy I was renting from was shifty as hell. He seemed the type to rent to even well known super villains as long as he got paid he didn't care what went on. It was the whole reason I picked him in the first place because what I was doing wasn't exactly legal in the first place. I was also certain that my deposit was gone for good although no one mentioned it.

"So does this assistance come with housing or do I need to..."

Valor: For those in your situation temporary housing is available as is the victim fund to help you get back on your feet... although you might face discrimination considering your visible mutation. The assistance program can also set you up with a job just don't expect it to be anything glamorous.

....

When they said not to expect anything glamorous I didn't expect the cosmic joke of working in a comic and game store. Not that I could blame them for it I studied in secret about mechanics and even that seemed burnt out of my mind after the incident as lost most of the know how and all I got in return was glowing eyes. It's been a month and half since then and now I have no connection to the heroic community anymore. The only thing left was to make money and dig myself out of a financial hole putting money aside I bought high quality card making supplies gambling that people might be interested. It worked in my old life there were plenty of card games that existed and if just recreated iconic characters I could have comics and merchandise later down the road.

With supplies out of the way it was time to decide who or what to start with and what direction to grow. It couldn't be something over powered or it would instantly wreck the game but it also couldn't be too weak and people would quickly loose interest. There was another concern I had to keep in mind the customers currently those that frequent the store were teenagers more specifically teenage boys. They dreamed of awakening powers and becoming heroes fighting of evil and getting the girl. If I was going to catter to that particular crowd while I couldn't even afford to have a girlfriend or even visit a strip club than it was obvious what my first card would be.
