Chapter 47 — The Staircase Confrontation
Kiera's heart pounded in her chest like a drum. Her sister's silhouette loomed at the top of the staircase, arms crossed, expression unreadable in the flickering light. Behind her, the masked man held a black case that glinted ominously.
"Kiera…" her sister's voice was calm, almost too calm. "You didn't think you'd get away that easily, did you?"
Kiera's blood ran cold. "You… you're working with them? You're part of this?"
Her sister tilted her head, a chilling smile forming. "Working with them? Oh, Kiera… you've misunderstood. I'm not working with them. I'm working for the future. And sometimes, to survive, you have to make choices you'll never forgive yourself for."
Kiera's hands shook. Leo clung to her side. "Sister… please… why?"
"I wish I could explain," her sister said softly, descending the staircase slowly, deliberately. "But you're not ready to hear it. Not yet. Maybe never."
