The demons came at dawn.
I woke to the sound of alarm bells ringing across the sacred grounds, their urgent clamor cutting through the early morning quiet like a knife. The babies woke too, all three of them crying in response to the noise and the sudden tension filling the air.
"They're here," Damon said, already moving toward the window. "Earlier than expected."
"How many?" I asked, picking up Lyra while my mother grabbed Aiden and Delia took Kieran.
"All of them." His voice was grim. "The entire army. They're not waiting, not staging a gradual attack. They're throwing everything at us at once."
Lucian burst through the door, Caelan right behind him. "The valley perimeter is under assault. Thirty thousand demons, maybe more. They brought siege weapons and battle mages and creatures I've never seen before."
"Can we hold?" Nicklaus demanded, entering from the other door where he'd been coordinating with his pack.
