The Fourth Bond
Three weeks after the triplets were born, I woke in the middle of the night with the strangest sensation.
Not pain. Not exactly. More like a pulling, a tugging at something deep in my chest that hadn't been there before. Or maybe it had been there all along and I'd been too exhausted and overwhelmed to notice it properly until now.
I lay there in the dark, one hand on my chest, trying to identify what I was feeling. The bond with Damon felt warm and steady, a constant presence I'd grown used to over the months we'd been together. The bond with Nicklaus was similar but different, cooler somehow, more controlled but no less intense. And the bond with Lucian that we'd acknowledged but not fully explored yet hummed quietly in the background, patient and waiting for whenever I was ready to examine it properly.
But this was something else.
This was new.
And it was getting stronger by the second.
