By the end of the second week, we'd established something approaching a functional routine, and the babies were thriving in ways that continued to surprise Dorian during his daily checkups.
"They're growing faster than standard infant development," he'd said that morning, measuring Aiden's length and weight for his records. "Not alarmingly so, but definitely accelerated. At this rate, they'll hit developmental milestones weeks ahead of schedule."
"Is that dangerous?" I'd asked, watching Kieran track a toy with his eyes in a way that seemed too focused for a two-week-old.
"I don't know yet. It could be completely normal for children with this particular combination of bloodlines. Or it could indicate something else." He'd looked at me seriously. "Keep monitoring them. Document anything unusual. We're in uncharted territory here."
Uncharted territory seemed to be the theme of my entire existence lately.
