Chapter Sixty-One – Paranormal Realm 59
That landed.
It landed thoroughly.
I sat with it for a moment, this enormous, quiet thing that had just been placed in front of me.
Then I thought about the Vampire Lord. About a restaurant with its doors blown open. About low-ranking vampires with hungry eyes moving toward me across a ruined dinner.
"And if the threat comes from outside the werewolf continent?" I asked carefully.
Crestian looked at me for a long moment.
"Then," he said, "it comes against us."
The meeting continued for another hour after that. Formalities, documentation, the specific language of the Council's blessing being recorded and witnessed. Elder Seris asked me several more questions, gentler than her first ones, more curious than interrogating. The skeptical Council member asked Damon and Nicklaus detailed questions about their pack structures and territories that went thoroughly over my head.
I answered what I could and watched the rest.
