"Stop right there. Who are you?"
Inside a wide corridor of the New Jersey base, a formation of fully armed soldiers stood in neat ranks.
Opposite them stood Lancelot, his expression completely emotionless.
"Open fire. Fire immediately."
Inside the command room, Peggy Carter stared grimly at the screen before issuing the order without hesitation.
"Lancelot… why is he here?"
Her face was tense. No one present understood the Mutant King better than she did.
With nothing but words, Lancelot had once slaughtered the entire Strategic Scientific Reserve, nearly wiping out the core talent pool of the SSR.
That was why, the moment Peggy realized the intruder was Lancelot, she gave him no chance to speak.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
At her command, hundreds of soldiers pulled the trigger at once. A storm of bullets instantly engulfed Lancelot.
"Energy absorption."
Yet in the face of the overwhelming gunfire, Lancelot stood proudly, allowing the bullets to strike his body.
Each round lost fifteen percent of its kinetic energy upon impact. The dense hail of bullets fell harmlessly to the ground.
"Trash."
Lancelot glanced at the bullets scattered at his feet. Raising his right hand, the absorbed energy erupted into a single beam, sweeping all the soldiers away.
Boom! Boom!
Deafening explosions echoed through the corridor as the energy wave sent every soldier flying.
Lancelot didn't even spare the explosions a glance. His body instantly dissolved into a cloud of crimson mist and vanished from the hallway.
The sudden disturbance alerted two men elsewhere in the base—Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, who were searching for the Pym Particles and the Tesseract.
"What was that? I don't remember any attack on the base in 1970," Tony muttered, glancing at Steve as his nanotech armor rapidly deployed over his body.
"I don't know," Steve shrugged. "But it definitely wasn't aliens."
Bang.
As the two future heroes exchanged confused looks, a red mist flashed before them—and Lancelot appeared.
"What the hell—who are you?!" Tony exclaimed, instantly entering combat mode as his armor powered up.
"Illusion: Imprisonment."
Lancelot merely glanced at Tony. In the next instant, his consciousness digitized, overriding the Iron Man suit and trapping Tony inside it.
"What the—what is this?!" Tony shouted in shock as the armor vanished, leaving him completely powerless.
"I don't know who you are, but we're taking you down!" Steve charged forward, shield raised, treating Lancelot as a deadly threat.
"Kid, I don't have time to play with you. Geass."
Lancelot's eyes were icy. He attempted to impose an absolute command on Steve—but failed.
Steve Rogers' willpower and indomitable spirit resisted the Geass.
So Lancelot adjusted his approach.
"Sleep."
Steve collapsed instantly, falling into a deep unconsciousness.
"Come with me."
Casting Steve one last cold glance, Lancelot digitized his consciousness once more, seized control of Tony's armor, and walked forward.
"Hey—mysterious guy—where exactly are you taking me?" Tony babbled helplessly from inside the suit.
"Fire!"
Another squad of soldiers blocked Lancelot's path, already under orders to shoot on sight.
"Stop breathing."
Bullets struck Lancelot like raindrops, doing nothing more than tickling him.
Thud.
Every soldier collapsed at once, clutching their throats and writhing in agony.
"This is bad. Lancelot is heading this way."
Inside Howard Stark's advanced laboratory, Peggy Carter stared darkly at the surveillance monitors.
She had expected Lancelot to be stalled by the future Captain America and Iron Man.
She never imagined he would defeat Steve so easily—and completely take control of the Iron Man armor.
"Peggy… what do we do?" Howard asked, his eyes fixed on the armor behind Lancelot.
"Activate the Tesseract," Peggy said coldly. "Send the Mutant King into deep space."
Howard immediately began adjusting the machine. The Tesseract pulsed violently, releasing immense energy.
Bang.
A red mist burst into the lab—and Lancelot emerged, wearing the Iron Man armor.
"Help me retrieve the Tesseract."
Guided by digitized perception and satellite-linked awareness, Lancelot strode toward it.
Click.
He effortlessly removed the Tesseract from the machine.
A smile appeared on his face.
After confirming the timeline divergence, this had always been his true objective.
Lancelot knew that only the Tesseract's spatial power could free him from this fractured timeline.
"Energy absorption."
His right hand touched the Tesseract—and began drawing in its power at a terrifying rate.
Boom!
Vast spatial energy flooded every cell of his body, rapidly reaching his absorption limit.
"Eye of Shaka."
Lancelot opened the Eye of Shaka, sealing the overflowing spatial energy within his eyes.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, the Tesseract unleashed a terrifying beam of energy.
Before Lancelot could absorb it, the energy engulfed him completely.
Hmph.
The world seemed to surge forward at impossible speed. Wrapped inside a four-dimensional hypercube, Lancelot vanished from the New Jersey base.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing in the middle of a lake.
"Illusion."
Stepping ashore, Lancelot pressed his fingers to his temple, instantly establishing a digital link with the satellite overhead.
"1973… It brought me to New York," he murmured with a bitter smile. "But not the correct timeline."
Despite successfully absorbing the Space Stone's power, he still hadn't returned where he belonged.
The present moment was still 197 years away from his original future.
