Chapter 39 - chapter 38

Boom!

The ground shattered, and dust billowed everywhere.

"Ye Qiu!" Zhu Zhuqing's worried voice rang out from afar.

"I'm fine!"

Whoosh! Ye Qiu burst out of the dust and smoke. He had been careless and hadn't expected this soul beast to possess a mental attack. If it were anyone else, they would definitely be dead!

Even Ye Qiu had nearly been stunned.

He quickly rejoined Zhu Zhuqing. "Zhu… Zhuqing! Once the battle starts, cover your ears with soul power as soon as you see it open its mouth. Its roar carries a mental attack!"

"I know! But what's wrong with it? Why is it so crazy?" Zhu Zhuqing turned around and looked at the tiger chasing them. It slaughtered other soul beasts with a single swipe of its claws and knocked down every tree in its path. It was simply brutal and berserk!

Ye Qiu laughed awkwardly, realizing it might be inappropriate to explain this to a girl.

"Uh… well… hehe. I didn't mean to either. I was worried it wouldn't cooperate, so I used a hidden dart and shot it from behind. Who knew it would suddenly stick its butt out, and then… then it got hit right there. Cough, cough!"

"Disgusting!" Zhu Zhuqing glared at him, her face flushing with anger. With a burst of speed, she left him behind.

As the saying goes, you can't touch a tiger's backside—let alone stab it.

Today, the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger and humanity were locked in a life-and-death struggle!

"How is this my fault?" Ye Qiu complained as he hurried after her. "Who told it to keep moving around while lying down? I'm innocent too, okay?"

As the two ran, they deliberately led the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger deeper into the forest. Once they entered the denser area, its gliding ability was essentially useless.

"Zhuqing! That's enough—start wearing it down!" Seeing the terrain was suitable, Ye Qiu stopped her.

"Okay! Here we go!"

Poof!

Zhu Zhuqing activated the Shadow Spider Spear without hesitation.

Sizzle!

The spear pierced through the ground and tree trunks, releasing wisps of black smoke filled with corrosive venom.

"Roar!"

The tiger roared, invisible shockwaves rippling outward. Its massive paw slammed down, but Zhu Zhuqing dodged swiftly.

Fortunately, she had sealed her ears with soul power in time—otherwise, she would have been hit by the mental attack.

Ye Qiu had too few offensive options. His left-eye Kamui was easy to evade, so he relied on his intangibility to fight at close range.

With a dagger coated in Shadow Spider venom, he weaved around the beast, occasionally delivering cold, precise stabs.

Zhu Zhuqing moved nimbly through the forest. Using the Shadow Spider Spear, she stood firmly atop the trees.

"Roar!"

Poisoned and enraged, the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger roared continuously, but its mental attacks were now completely ineffective.

Furious, it swung its tail at Ye Qiu, slicing through the air with a piercing whistling sound!

Whoosh!

At the same moment, Zhu Zhuqing leaped, aiming to land on its back.

"Zhuqing, don't be reckless—be careful!"

Whoosh!

With a powerful flap of its wings, the tiger unleashed several wind blades that slashed toward her.

"Damn it!"

At that moment, the tiger's tail had only passed halfway through Ye Qiu's body, preventing him from activating Divine Might in time to save her.

Thud!

Zhu Zhuqing slammed heavily into a tree, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.

"Roar!"

The Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger pounced toward her, its blue-green eyes filled with savage pain and fury.

"Divine Might!"

Ye Qiu broke free and glanced at the tiger's forelimbs.

They were slightly twisted, blood seeping through its white fur. After letting out a mournful cry, the beast finally abandoned its attack on Zhu Zhuqing, dodged and retreated.

"Are you alright?" Ye Qiu shielded her behind him, ready to take her away at any moment.

"I'm fine! Don't worry about me—keep going!" Zhu Zhuqing wiped the blood from her mouth with her arm. Fortunately, she had blocked most of the wind blades with the Shadow Spider Spear.

Whoosh!

She climbed back up. This time, she didn't act impulsively. Following Ye Qiu's advice, she fought steadily—advancing and retreating, slowly wearing it down.

The sun sank lower, and the green glow in the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger's eyes gradually dimmed.

Having already harbored thoughts of retreat, it was doomed to fall here.

Ye Qiu stopped attacking and rested at the side, leaving Zhu Zhuqing to finish it herself.

"That's enough, Zhuqing!"

As soon as Ye Qiu spoke, she landed on the ground. Her eight spider spears moved rapidly as she charged straight at the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger.

"Roar!"

The tiger's roar was no longer deafening—only weak and hoarse.

It released a distant wind blade, which Zhu Zhuqing easily dodged.

As she closed the distance, another massive paw slammed down. Her yellow soul ring pulsed.

"First Soul Skill — Netherworld Thrust!"

Whoosh!

With the assistance of her spider legs, her speed surged again. She turned into a blur and rushed to its side.

The purple soul ring lit up.

"Second Soul Skill — Shadow Hundred Kills!"

Her voice was cold and merciless.

Pfft! ×N

Her sharp claws tore relentlessly into its abdomen, black blood splattering everywhere. After more than a hundred consecutive strikes, she even drove the remaining spider spears behind her straight into its body.

After repeatedly devouring soul power from soul beasts, she had become somewhat addicted to the sensation. A faint look of pleasure appeared on her face.

"Roar~"

With a final mournful cry—thud!

The Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger collapsed, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Ye Qiu rushed over when he saw she hadn't withdrawn the spider spears yet.

"Stop absorbing it! If it dies completely, we'll have to start over!"

"Tch." Zhu Zhuqing slowly retracted the spider spears. "Relax. I'm just replenishing my soul power."

Ye Qiu said seriously, "Don't abuse this devouring ability. Not only will it damage your foundation, but using it to raise your cultivation could also push you toward becoming an evil soul master."

"I remember everything you said," Zhu Zhuqing smiled. She wouldn't ruin her future. Even if she absorbed soul power, it would only be to evolve the Shadow Spider Spear.

"Good." Ye Qiu nodded. He didn't want to ruin someone's future just because of a soul bone—some things needed to be made clear.

"Stop lecturing, or this tiger really will die," Zhu Zhuqing said, pointing at the Jade-Eyed Cloud-Winged Tiger, which was already breathing more out than in.

Ye Qiu glared at her again, making her cover her mouth and chuckle. She hadn't meant to hit it that hard.

Walking up to the tiger, there was no time to move it elsewhere. Ye Qiu sat down cross-legged and pried open its bluish-green eyes, which were about to close.

A red light flashed within them. The tiger's body slowly warmed as a purple halo spread out, wrapping around Ye Qiu like a silkworm cocoon.

"This guy's martial soul is seriously unfair…" Zhu Zhuqing muttered as she watched quietly.

Time passed slowly. The battle had already taken a long time, and night gradually fell.

All around, insects chirped, and a cold wind blew past, making Zhu Zhuqing shiver slightly.

"Why isn't it finished yet?" Although the purple cocoon was fading, Ye Qiu still hadn't emerged.

Rustle.

"More soul beasts?" Zhu Zhuqing frowned. She had already driven them away several times—she hadn't expected them to return at night!

"Hiss!"

A massive dark snake, over twelve meters long, slowly appeared, its tongue flicking in and out.

"A six-thousand-year-old Iron-Scaled Python… damn it!" Zhu Zhuqing glanced back at Ye Qiu. She couldn't retreat.

Whoosh!

The Shadow Spider Spear activated. Two soul rings—one yellow, one purple—rose beneath her feet.

"First and Second Soul Skills — Netherworld Thrust, Shadow Hundred Kills!"

Ye Qiu, you'd better hurry…

She charged forward head-on, without any fancy techniques. The python's enormous size was both its strength—and its weakness.

The snake tried to twist its head away, but Zhu Zhuqing relentlessly targeted it, striking the same spot over and over.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Sizzle!

Sparks flew across its iron-like scales. Only after dozens of strikes did faint sounds of flesh being torn emerge.

Even the spider spears kept piercing the same location.

"Hiss—!"

The python howled in pain and whipped its head, sending Zhu Zhuqing flying backward. Its vertical pupils locked onto her.

Rustle!

Its massive body coiled around her, the raised snake head looming above.

If she fled now, she might still survive.

Thinking of Ye Qiu, she clenched her teeth.

"I died a long time ago anyway!"

Ding! Ding! Ding!

She continued attacking as the encirclement tightened.

Suddenly, the python's tail lashed out with a thunderous crack, smashing into her chest.

"Pfft!"

Zhu Zhuqing spat out blood and collapsed, barely remaining upright with the support of the Shadow Spider Spear.

The scent of blood drove the Iron-Scaled Python into a frenzy. It opened its foul-smelling maw and lunged at her.

The stench reached her face.

"Is it… over?" Zhu Zhuqing murmured, her eyes unconsciously turning toward Ye Qiu.

A flicker of surprise flashed in her eyes—the giant purple cocoon had shattered!

Good… he's alive. I don't owe him anything anymore…

She slowly closed her eyes.

But instead of pain—

BOOM!

A deafening impact rang out.

"Roar—!"

The giant python screamed.

Zhu Zhuqing opened her eyes to see a massive, blood-red arm lying before her—stripped of flesh and bone.

The Iron-Scaled Python that had been lunging at her was sent flying, crashing heavily into the ground in the distance.

"What....what is this!"
