In mid-March, a sudden call from the police summoned both Anisa and Yugh separately to the station for an update on the investigation and newly uncovered facts. š³
Anisa arrived first. The officer informed her he wished to brief them together and asked her to wait for Mr. Singh. About forty minutes later, Yugh entered, his expression guarded and tense.
The officer addressed them both, placing the Autopsy Report on the desk between them. "This is the standard post-mortem report, issued soon after death. However, we had suspicions it wasn't a straightforward accident, which is why certain details were withheld from the public, and from you, until our investigation progressed." š£
"Sir, we already know the basics," Anisa interjected, her voice weary. "They were together that night, the rain caused the car to skid, it went over the cliff. The brake lines were cut, which made you think it might not be an accident, but..."
"Mrs. Malik," the officer interrupted gently but firmly. "There is new information here that you were not aware of. Information uncovered during our deeper forensic analysis." š®
"What is it, Officer?" Yugh asked, his curiosity overriding his unease.
The officer took a steadying breath. "Mr. Singh, what I'm about to say... please try to remain calm. I believe this is something you were unaware of." He paused, meeting Yugh's gaze directly. "The medical examiner's internal examination... of the reproductive organs... the uterus... it revealed that your wife was approximately ten weeks pregnant at the time of her death."
The words landed in the sterile room like a physical blow. šŖ
"Pregnant?!" Yugh echoed, the color draining from his face. The air seemed to vanish from the room. "That's... that's impossible... How...?" His sentence trailed off, the implications crashing into him with a force that left him speechless. The betrayal hinted at by the diary now took on a new, horrifying dimension. š„
