Chapter 55 - Adolescence - 9

"Shun-chan…"

"Yeah?"

"Uh…can you walk with me to U.A. for the Entrance Exam tomorrow?"

"...Pardon?" Isshun turned around, foam cleanser on his face, with an exasperated expression.

The U.A. Entrance Exam was set for Monday, which was tomorrow.

For the majority of this week, U.A., along with other popular High Schools that teach heroics like Shiketsu High School hosted their Entrance Exams.

While Japan in the past would only give a break for Middle School or Junior High Seniors, for Isshun's school at least, gave off a break similar to Golden Week during this time.

After all, even if some Middle Schoolers saw the reality of getting into high-cut schools like U.A., it didn't mean that they didn't have a chance to gun for other High Schools that taught Heroics.

So, armed with this information that Isshun didn't have school the day of her Entrance Exam, Nejire had invited Isshun over for a Pre-U.A. High School Entrance Exam sleepover.

Yet, now she was asking him to walk with her to the U.A. Entrance Exam too?

Excuse me?

"Rejected." Isshun was still rubbing soap on his face.

"Aw, why not?!" Nejire whined.

Isshun had an incredulous look on his face, "Not even a week ago, you said you were always ready. I didn't know you were a liar."

"That's not the same!" Nejire crossed her arms, puffing out her chest. "I just want my bestest friend to at least walk with me to the entrance for emotional support!"

She walked out of the bathroom, a pout on her face.

"...Are you a kid?" He mumbled, rinsing the water off his face.

Nejire poked her head back into view of the doorway, showcasing her glistening eyes. "Are you really not going to walk with me…?"

Isshun pat his face with a towel and looked toward Nejire, eyebrows raised.

He sighed, getting an excitatory look from Nejire.

Having been friends with Shun-chan for nearly seven years, she knew a lot if not all of his subconscious habits!

That sigh happened when Shun-chan was about to grudgingly agree!

"Fine."

"Yay!"

Of course, she never did it too much.

As the next day arrived, Isshun found himself awake early as always.

Without a moment's hesitation, Isshun teleported out of Nejire's hands into the bathroom to wash up.

After patting his face with a towel and teleporting his skincare routine onto his face, Isshun went to the kitchen, where Shiori was already there, waiting for him.

"Here you are, Shun-kun." Shiori smiled at him as she saw him leave the bathroom, before crossing her arms, a mock expression of seriousness on her face.

"I'll have you know that the kitchen is my domain, since neither Nejire-chan nor Mitsuru can cook to save their lives, but I'll make an exception."

Then she relaxed, a soft smile on her face.

"While I'm not sure if my Nejire-chan deserves all of this spoiling you're giving her," Shiori chuckled, "I'll be watching over you just in case you make any mistakes that could harm you while you're cooking."

Isshun nodded. "Yes ma'am."

His Omniscient Domain might prevent any harm coming to him, but that didn't mean it would stop him from possibly over or under seasoning his food.

At this point, Isshun didn't particularly mind someone looking over him while doing this.

It may seem that Isshun had a pride in learning stuff, but it was more or less that finding an expert to teach him took longer than actually learning that subject.

But having been accustomed to Auntie Shiori's cooking, Isshun could say that he could emulate her to some extent, but there wasn't anything wrong with supervision.

Human error when doing a new activity was expected.

It's just that Isshun's own abilities of a supercomputer for a brain, Omniscient Domain, and a near-perfect memory significantly reduced that margin of error.

Cooking was something that utilized a majority of his senses, even his mostly unused ones, smell and taste.

Now one might ask why he didn't practice beforehand, and all Isshun could say was that even if he failed, wasn't there an appeal for it being his first time?

It was better to have an excuse to both himself and for Nejire if she didn't find it appetizing.

Of course it wasn't that he wasn't confident.

It was merely a back up plan.

A few minutes later, when a faint sound of an alarm ringing sounded from Nejire's room, Shiori gave Isshun a teasing gaze, but it was also of incredulousness.

After all, right in front of the kitchen counter was an immaculately set bento, with octopus sausages, eggrolls, and a hamburg steak that looked like everything down to the minute detail was considered.

'...Did he really not practice beforehand?'

Even him filling up a small thermos with brewed jasmine tea was perfectly timed with Nejire turning off her alarm.

Seconds passed, as Nejire came out of her room, a dazed and confused look on her face.

"Where did you go, Shun-chan…?"

She looked around with her hair in a jumbled up mess, her squinted eyes scanning the living room before settling on Isshun's face.

"Shun-chan…!"

She quickly ran over to Isshun, relief on her face.

"I almost thought you forgot about our promise!" Nejire exclaimed.

Isshun raised an eyebrow, "Who do you think I am?" As he finished screwing on the cap to the thermos.

"Just get ready for your Entrance Exam. I already packed all of your testing materials and straightened out your uniform," Isshun shooed Nejire to the bathroom to wash up, turning around to see Shiori, blinking.

Shiori looked at Isshun in confusion.

'When did he even have the time to do that…?'

However, another thought popped into her mind.

'I know Nejire-chan is spoiled, but she really is getting the princess treatment!'

Even for a moment, Shiori felt a little jealous with how efficient yet caring Isshun was with everything, all for Nejire.

However, that thought put a fond smile with a hint of relief on her face. She sure was glad that Nejire got her hands on him first before anyone could have taken this perfect son-in-law.

She heard about a possible contender from Kako, but Shiori was confident in her daughter's charm.

Even if Nejire-chan wasn't in the same grade as Shun-kun, their bond was like diamond, it was unbreakable!

"Shun-chan." Nejire started, as they got off the bus stop close to U.A., holding Isshun's hand and swinging it around.

"Nervous?"

"Well, maybe?" Nejire tilted her head, "But I'm kind of more excited to see all of the cool Quirks!" She said, an expectant look on her face.

"I wonder if I'll be in the same class as the next All Might!" Nejire added on, "Because you never know if the person next to you is super strong unless they reveal it!"

Isshun nodded along, inwardly quipping, 'I'm sorry to say, but I'm pretty sure the next All Might is going to be in my generation.'

But personally, as someone who avoids troublesome things unless he was in the mood for aura farming, he would prefer not to be in the same class as that bunch of hooligans.

"Well, it's good that you aren't nervous." Isshun nodded, while taking in some familiar faces within his Omniscient Domain.

Technically, when Isshun said familiar faces, it was basically some of the U.A. Staff, because he had seen a few both on the show and on broadcasts.

Why would he know anyone two years older than him?

However, there were two people he knew from Nejire's generation.

That one guy with Permeation, and the other with that eating Quirk that he forgot the name of.

And coincidentally, it seemed that they were walking together as well, and they would meet at around the same time at the gate of U.A.

As Nejire made more small talk and questions about nearby examinees' Quirks, which Isshun answered to the best of his ability, the duo finally arrived at the gates of U.A.

Isshun took a moment to observe the unnecessarily avant-garde design of U.A., which seemed way too overkill for a High School, but immediately gave up trying to understand how this place had this high of a budget.

After all, the rat was a genius.

There were a lot of ways to make money.

But for Isshun, there was simply no point anymore.

It was more like Isshun saw no point in making money, as having the ability to make a lot of money whenever he chose was the same as being rich to him.

Maybe if anyone close to him wanted something that required money, but even then he was confident that he could just make that something instead.

It was more fun that way.

As Isshun and Nejire were both admiring the campus for a few seconds, Isshun looked at Nejire.

"This is where we part."

While Nejire still had an unsatisfied expression on her face, she begrudgingly let go of Isshun's hand.

However, before Nejire could step foot on campus, Isshun stopped her.

"Just have fun."

"...Hmm?" Nejire tilted her head. Wasn't the norm supposed to be a voice of encouragement?

"Even if you fail, you can go to a different High School, graduate, take a course, and obtain a Hero License then," Isshun shrugged, "There's zero actual pressure even if you fail."

Isshun added, "However, I'd be pretty sad if all of my time tutoring went to waste."

Nejire nodded with a determined expression on her face.

"And one last thing."

"Yeah?"

"What do heroes do?"

This was a question that Isshun had asked Nejire multiple times during his tutoring and even before then.

As always, she gave the same answer.

"Save people!"

Isshun displayed a smile, nodding in satisfaction, "Good luck, Nejire. Don't forget to call my name if you need help."

Nejire gave another nod before blinking, "Eh? Even for the Entrance Exam?"

"Safety is paramount. Nothing is wrong with asking for help. Even for heroes."

At that, Nejire nodded in understanding, turning around and walking a few steps before turning around and waving at Isshun.

Isshun just waved back, waiting until she entered the building.

However, after the fourth time of Nejire turning around and waving at him, he couldn't help but give an audible sigh, showing an exasperated smile, waving back.

After Nejire finally entered the building, he turned around to see two familiar faces.

Mirio and…hmm.

What was the other guy's name again?

Isshun only remembered the black haired person's shy demeanor.

As Isshun's gaze went over Mirio and Tamaki, Tamaki froze at his gaze before looking away, a shadow falling over his face to hide his eyes.

However, Mirio, not one to be nervous meeting a new person, greeted Isshun with a bright smile on his face raising a hand in greeting.

"Hello, Senpai!"

While Mirio, currently 175cm in height, towered over Isshun's 169cm, it was Isshun's countenance that made Mirio believe that he was a senior helping a junior when Isshun was talking to Nejire.

"...Hello."

Yet Isshun didn't correct Mirio.

Mainly because it was a little funny, and he was kind of curious about meeting another character he somewhat knew about.

"Are you a student at U.A., Senpai?" Mirio asked.

"Maybe," Isshun shrugged. If Nejire didn't get accepted, there was no point in attending U.A.

Yet for Mirio, this nonchalance only gave off the impression that the person in front of was a cryptic senior, solidifying his initial impression of Isshun.

"That's amazing, senpai! I was wondering if you could give us advice before we took the Entrance Exam! Of course, nothing too important! I wouldn't want to be seen as cheating, after all."

He flashed a confident smile.

Isshum hummed in thought at Mirio's request, before asking him a similar question he asked Nejire.

"Hmm... then, kouhai."

"Yes, senpai!" Mirio nodded.

"Why do you want to become a hero?"

Mirio paused in thought for a few seconds, before putting his hands on his hips with conviction.

"To save others!"

At that statement, Isshun nodded, "That's a good answer."

Isshun turned around, intending to walk back to Nejire's house, before turning around to see Mirio and Tamaki dazed by his sudden leave.

"...What are you waiting for? Aren't you two going to become heroes?"

The two blinked, Mirio and even Tamaki nodded with determination, making their way into the U.A. Campus.

Isshun walked away, a faint smile on his face.

'That was something I wanted to do for a while. Nice.'
