Jane's abilities are great. She can be a very helpful unit in any kind of team. She can disrupt the enemies, land certain deadly hits and predicts future attacks on herself. She is perfect.
It could definitely put her in a high post and earn her a lot of money.
But she always has to work alone. She doesn't even want to part take in some cohort or something. Even though she has taken classes on combat. It feels like such a waste now.
It is all because of [Indebted]. In a battle there can be many chances for people to save her life. And if that were to happen, she would be indebted to them for saving her life.
They can ask her for anything they want from her. It isn't like she has to do everything they say.
But to a certain extent. That attribute will force her in some way or form to complete that debt. She can't even imagine what kind of deprave things would people do if they were to find out about that.
This is a reason why people likes to keep their soul stats private. It is a bother if you have a terrible attribute like that. It can literally ruin your life.
So here, Steel comes in.
He had used that [Indebted] attribute of her to get the information on her Attributes.
And after asking about more information. He proposed a deal with her.
She would forever be Indebted to her. That way, no one else can be Indebted to her again. As only one person can be indebted at a time. With that she can work on better jobs without worrying about getting indebted to a creep.
She wouldn't be able to grow her body stronger. As the [indebted] does that in return but the trouble it causes is just too much.
So what did Steel asked in returned?
Few things, she has to help him get a job. Either in government where she works or somewhere else.
Then share information or any news about the human communities or any new developments.
Also don't ask about his secrets. He doesn't want to share his private life so in return he also won't ask about her private life. Not like he is interest in it.
Last, help him in whatever way. He has no interest in carnal desires which kind of surprised Jane. Steel wasn't sure why such a reaction. Are all humans are just creeps? Probably, yes.
There are far more important things for Steel like survival.
It is cause of her that he was able to afford an apartment later in the years. It wasn't easy though.
He didn't desire any financial help. Even if he ask for some. It could release the [indebted] attribute if he did. Cause of the nature their relationship, he really can't get a lot from her.
So he just desire direction and how to function in a human society.
That is how he come to know Jane. It could be said that he is taking advantage of her. After all, he gets so much more than her. But She also gets what she wants in return and didn't complain so both parties are happy.
For whatever reason, Jane never seem to care about being blackmailed by him. For her, she just have found herself a friend. But Steel fails to understand it. Why humans are so strange?
Jane laughed.
"You still calls it Blackmailing? Ah yes, funny. Everything is funny whenever I forget all that and suddenly remember it. Ah, we had so much history and I am here forgetting everything. Your soul ability is unique to say the least."
He obviously lied about it. He doesn't have a soul ability. It is his demonic nature.
Also what is she talking about, it is so much like blackmailing. He can tell everyone about her [indebted] attribute and make her life so much difficult.
He can also just steal from her. But he never did cause he respected his deal with her. It is so hard to understand humans sometimes. He can just rub his temples as she doesn't take him serious, like ever. It irritates him a little but he can handle his benefactor's taunts.
After that outburst, Jane finally controls her laughter and talks to him.
"So how long has it been? Two mouths? Where were you, kid? It has been so long. I would say I was worried but I apparently didn't even remembered you."
Steel replies.
"I don't have to tell you that…"
Jane just smiles.
"yeah yeah, our deal. Well, I am glad you are back anyway. So what brings you here?"
Steel Looks at the expensive sweets. He wishes he could eat some but small favors form her could accumulate together and that would make the [indebted] attribute release the debt. And he wants this to go on for as long as possible.
He can buy some cheap sweets if he ever wanted some. It isn't a big deal. So after controlling his gluttonous self, he replied.
"just come to know how things are going. I waaaass…out for few months, you see."
Jane nods and replies.
"How long has it been? Two months? Two and a half? Am I repeating myself? I just don't know anymore. You sure were busy though. Now I understand why I felt like I was doing some added paper work. You should thank me for being such a nice senior."
That was not what he asked for but he was glad that he didn't have to worry about his work.
Later after making that deal with Jane. In two years, he had gotten the job as an assistant of Jane.
There is a whole arc of his days studying in human school for a year. But he doesn't wanna reminisce about those days. He had a room in the dorms and he didn't have to pay rent.
He would love to have his own house. But he never did cause what is the point? Mother's curse would never let him stay at peace.
Jane continues.
"Well, nothing special yet. We don't have any news. There is one military camp that went to research the Devil spawns. But it hasn't returned. They say that there is nothing to worry about, everything is fine. But don't worry, soon it will be public knowledge or not. It depends on what happened there."
Steel knows what she is talking about. He was literally there to witness the death of those soldiers. He has no sympathy for them but he is also interest in how this development would affect this community. What actions would be taken by humans?
Jane continues. Talking about everything that happened with her job and then she mentioned the Hero.

Steel has never seen the guy. But he knows that the human is dangerous and a battle hungry monster. Was he the human he saw in the death zone? It could be him, Steel don't have any other leads.
Jane continues talking for half an hour. He swears that she really do talk a lot. Maybe it was cause of her talkactive attitude that let him know about that attribute of hers. Oh well, he doesn't really have to think about past right now.
So asks other question.
"Do you know…like how much money it takes to cross the world boundary? Let's say like going from West to the East world?"
Jane replies.
"That would probably take the a whole lifetime to earn that much. Also nobody can pass worlds without any reason. It isn't like going to the bedroom at night for some fun times."
Steel didn't expected that there would be more restrictions than just money. Why are there more restrictions? Isn't there a saying "money makes the world go round"? So why isn't hard cold cash enough?
This just gonna make his life harder.
"Why you asking? Is your lover in the Eest world?"
Steel just raise an eyebrow and replies.
"No, and it isn't your business anyway."
Jane chuckles.
"you are so defensive about everything. Okay. I won't ask, happy now?"
Steel frowns. He isn't defensive about everything. He is just letting her know of his right to keep secrets.
Steel didn't really get any important information. Some he already knew and other's didn't really mattered to him.
But it is still nice to meet Jane. He would like to say that she is one of his informant. Or just a helper. It is nice to have someone even if it is a human and he is a demon. If she ever were to find that out. She probably will kill him.
To be fair, she is much stronger than him. Only advantage he has is that he can run away from her much easily.
Steel sighs and then remembers River.
"oh, by the way, do you know anything about women dresses? Like clothes for little girls?"
Maybe it is the phrasing or something. But there is no need to make a weird face like that. A face she always makes when talking about perverted stuff.
For whatever time has Steel spend with humans. He has come to understand that humans have a weird habit of assuming the weirdest of things. Even now, Jane must have thought of something strange.
He isn't interested in knowing what these thoughts are so he explained further what did he mean.
"It is for my…Sister. Yeah, Sister. Don't ask how I have a sister now cause I am not telling you. Don't meddle with my…family business."
Jane raises one of her eyebrow and says.
"Yeah, you sure convinced me with your smooth words. I have no doubt that you have little sister and not someone you just…no, nothing. I am not gonna say it."
She didn't seem convinced to Steel. Also what was she gonna say? He didn't like how she just stopped mid sentence.
"You have such a disturbed mind."
Jane defended herself.
"No, I have a imaginative mind and you are fueling it."
Then she grins at him and asked to go with him to the store to buy, this sister of Steel, some clothing. But he, of course, denied her and ran away.
He got the addresses of some good clothing stores form Jane though. But he is too tired of all the stuff. So he can get River something to wear some other time. It isn't like she can go outside.
Speaking of outside the Human community is always has the same atmosphere with the same grey sky. It isn't better than the warm day and cold night of the jungles of the West world. He wonders if River feels cold or warm.

River replied with a "okay". She sounded a little confused.
River didn't talked for a whole day. He almost forgot that there is a demon in his head living rent free.
She is probably just surprised form such a drastic change form the jungles to the human community. She must be having a hard time understanding what is going on around her. Poor River.
