Chapter 75 - Chapter 75.

"I see. Yes, I had planned to sink the corporation through others' hands and by the letter of the law, as I've already mentioned—but only partly. The finishing blow, I want to deliver with my own hands." I couldn't help myself.

"Let me take a look too."

"Here." And a small stack of documents passed into my hands.

Let's see what we have here.

To Brian Irons, Chief of Police of Raccoon City.

Our laboratory in the mansion was destroyed by the traitor Albert Wesker. Fortunately, his actions did not have a significant impact on the progress of our research. The only remaining threat is the surviving members of the S.T.A.R.S. unit: Redfield, Valentine, Burton, Chambers, and Vickers. If it becomes clear that they possess any evidence against us, eliminate them immediately—but only in a way that makes it look like an accident.

Continue monitoring the progress of their investigation and make every effort to avoid any publicity. Annette will continue to serve as your contact throughout this operation.

William Birkin.

Next! Although the mention of Wesker is pleasing—so at the very least, he's present here.

To Brian Irons, Chief of Police of Raccoon City.

As payment for your services over the past period, I have transferred $10,000 to your account, as agreed. Development of the G-Virus is almost complete. Once all work is finished, I am confident I will be accepted onto the corporation's board of directors. We must act with extreme caution. Redfield and the remaining members of S.T.A.R.S. are still attempting to obtain information about the project. Continue to monitor them and block all their attempts to enter the underground research complex.

William Birkin.

Tch. Selling yourself out for pocket change?! I thought you were playing in the big leagues. This is almost funny—I overestimated you? You're much smaller than I originally thought.

To Brian Irons, Chief of Police of Raccoon City.

We have a problem. I have learned that the corporation's directorate has dispatched spies to Raccoon City to steal the results of my G-Virus research. I do not know how many spies there are. However, I cannot allow my work to be taken so easily. Conduct a thorough sweep of the entire city and detain all suspicious individuals under any suitable pretext. Report each detention to Annette. I hope this precautionary measure will help. I will not allow anyone to steal my G-Virus research. No one—not even the corporation itself…

William Birkin.

Now this is magnificent. I suspect this happened shortly before my arrival in the city. And what information—Birkin, if he were still human, would be buried by this one hundred percent. Even if that last message fell into the corporation's hands, they'd strangle him themselves. Next page. Hmm. A letter?

Dear Chief,

Below is my report on the events that occurred prior to the explosion of the mansion:

On July 23rd, the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, led by Captain Enrico Marini, was dispatched to investigate a series of bizarre murders that took place in the Arklay Mountains. After contact with the team's helicopter was lost, the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, under the command of Captain Wesker, was sent to search for them. We located the wreckage of the Bravo Team's helicopter. After landing, we were attacked by ferocious dogs. Later, we discovered that these dogs were, in fact, zombie dogs, as they did not respond to our gunfire at all.

After Joseph Frost was killed, we were forced to retreat to a nearby mansion. While investigating the mansion, we learned that it was, in fact, a secret laboratory belonging to Umbrella Inc. All researchers had been transformed into zombies by exposure to an unknown virus. We also discovered that Umbrella was using the laboratory as a testing site for a new Bio-Organic Weapon.

We found the bodies of several team members, including Enrico Marini, Kenneth Sullivan, Forrest Speyer, and Richard Aiken. We believe that this Bio-Organic Weapon was responsible for all these deaths. We later learned that Captain Wesker was, in fact, working for Umbrella, and that both the Alpha and Bravo Teams were used as live test subjects for the Bio-Organic Weapon. Wesker betrayed us!

Only a few of us survived that nightmare. However, since the mansion was destroyed in an explosion, there is no physical evidence to prove the existence of Umbrella's secret laboratory or the Bio-Organic Weapon. The appearance of zombies in the city is extremely similar to the zombies we encountered in the mansion. We suspect that Umbrella is connected to all of this in some way. To uncover the truth and eliminate the zombies roaming the city, I propose that we begin a formal investigation into Umbrella.

Thank you for your attention to this extremely important matter.

Chris Redfield

Too much "in fact." A soldier's vocabulary—rather sparse. Still, the information is useful. This particular letter, if handed over to the government, could cause the corporation a great deal of trouble—and Wesker as well. For that alone, this whole raid can already be considered a success.

Wait—what's this? A page from Irons's own diary, and crumpled at that? Yamata, I'm impressed—you even managed to check the trash bin in his office. And there I was, fussing with the doors—nothing at all.
