Chapter 92: Blood Curse, Danny's Death
The cameraman's head, like a ripe fruit hanging from a branch, dangled from his back, a half-foot-long strand of flesh swaying back and forth.
The tentacle connected to his jaw tried to continue its attack, but Lily ripped it off and threw it to the ground.
The nerve plexus on the tentacle was not dead, still writhing like a severed lizard tail.
Old Lamp was currently lurking on a high slope to the east.
He lay prone in the tall grass, observing the battle through high-powered binoculars. He was also simultaneously broadcasting the footage to Marcus via the lens's electronic connection.
From this position, he could see almost everything in the entire ritual procession.
Old Lamp even spotted a local police officer about 400 meters to his right, also clinging to a tree, keeping watch.
He was lurking there, quietly enjoying the spectacle of the enemies fighting to the death, which gave him a sense of pleasure.
This feeling was even more enjoyable than directly killing the enemy!
He reached up and brushed aside the blessed paper that had been crumpled up in the wind and stuck to his binoculars. He had a stack of these blessed papers tucked inside his clothes.
Since the charms of this world had some effect on the evil spirits here, Marcus had bought quite a few himself and had Old Lamp and Little Sheep buy some as well.
Even a little help was better than nothing.
If the effect was small, quantity would solve the problem.
Marcus's hotel room was also covered with charms, and he was studying the images Old Lamp had transmitted.
The monster that the cameraman had transformed into gave him a strange sense of familiarity.
Marcus pondered for a moment, recalling.
This person seemed exactly like the creature in a TV series called "The Strain," with the same appearance and tentacles.
This kind of monster's true form was a parasitic worm, and the human body was just a host. Once possessed, it would spawn countless larvae, but only one blood worm was the core. Only when the blood worm was killed would the monster die completely, and it was also vulnerable to ultraviolet light.
In the image, the cameraman's worm-like corpse lay stiffly on the ground.
Marcus couldn't believe that this person had died so easily.
The host, Danny, had already finished drawing the human skin talisman.
He bit his tongue, spitting out a mouthful of blood mist. The newly inscribed spell was completely blurred by the blood, turning into a crimson blur.
The blood mist scattered on the ground outside the area, making the weeds glisten, suggesting they would grow better tomorrow.
After being sprayed with blood, the talisman seemed to come alive.
Like a predator searching for prey, its 'top' twisted, looked around, and as if spotting its target, pounced on Lily.
It instantly stuck to Lily's body, like a red-hot coal thrown into ice, causing Lily to hiss and crackle.
Then the talisman sank deep into her body, and Lily let out a painful howl, her form visibly fading.
This blood curse made on the spot caused great harm to Lily.
However, Danny's face was also ashen, his appearance aging twenty years instantly, clearly indicating significant damage.
But Danny underestimated the viciousness of this world.
Lily, being intelligent, seemed to be devising a plan.
She saw Big Bug's corpse and flew over, seemingly intending to possess it to remove the curse.
Just as Lily pounced, the now-corpse Bug suddenly rolled over.
However, perhaps due to the excessive force of the roll, its head, drooping from its neck and held together by only a wisp of flesh, was flung off and rolled a dozen times along the grass.
Only a headless body remained, continuing to dodge.
Lily was incredibly fast; the headless Bug couldn't dodge in time and was successfully caught.
She intended to possess it, but instead, she passed directly through its body.
It seemed the blood curse affected her possession ability.
After Lily passed through Bug's body, the curse's power seemed to transfer to the creature as well.
Its body melted like hot wax, flowing onto the ground, bubbling and emitting wisps of white smoke.
The grass on the ground, before it could even absorb this grotesque gift, was rotted and withered away, leaving a scorched, dead patch of land about two square meters in size.
Seeing that her possession was ineffective, Lily's vicious nature was fully unleashed.
Danny's legs trembled uncontrollably; he bent over, clutching his chest, panting heavily, seemingly struggling to breathe.
Lily pounced again.
Danny knew the power of his spell.
He struggled to retreat, his right hand, dipped in blood, continuously drawing obscure symbols on his body.
But it was too late!
Lily had already pounced on Danny, but she couldn't pass through his body, nor had she successfully possessed him.
But with her remaining left hand, she swiftly ripped out Danny's heart with ease. With a burst of strength from her five fingers, the heart was crushed into pulp, splattering into a dark pool that flowed onto the ground.
The grass on the ground finally received its macabre nourishment, swaying gently in the night breeze, seemingly expressing its vitality.
"Ahhh—!"
Lily screamed in agony. Although she had killed Danny, the power of the blood curse remained, and her form continued to dissipate.
As if venting her frustration, she clawed at the dead Danny, as if worried it might also feign death like the Bug.
Danny was disemboweled, a heap of gore flowing onto the ground.
This time, not only the clump of weeds, but even the nearby tree received this grotesque fertilizer. It didn't care about the meager amount earlier, but this was excessive.
Lily could no longer maintain her human form, dissolving away like melting ice.
Until Danny was completely eviscerated, Lily also vanished completely.
The malevolent spirit that had haunted the mortal world for over a decade perished alongside the two Keepers.
The local police, observing from afar, stared in disbelief, trembling with fear.
"What the hell is this?!"
"What are all these things?!"
"Should we move in?"
"Hell no!"
Someone asked, and the others shouted in unison.
Everyone turned around, wanting to ask those around them if they didn't know what was happening. How did a drug bust turn into catching a demon? But no one dared to speak first, as if afraid of attracting terrible attention.
A team member in the middle suddenly heard the captain next to him muttering incessantly, like he was possessed.
This startled him.
"Has the captain been possessed?!"
"Oh no!" He reached for the gun at his waist and turned around shakily.
He saw that the captain's right hand was repeatedly making the sign of the cross on his chest. He knew that making the sign of the cross was supposed to ward off evil, but he didn't expect the captain to be religious!
He listened carefully to the captain's mutterings, but his expression became strange.
Because the captain was chanting: "Hail Mary, full of grace!"
Would this work? Oh well, at least he wasn't possessed!
"There's danger!"
The captain hurriedly turned his head to observe his surroundings.
He found nothing unusual except for his teammate Bobby gazing at him with concern.
He suspected he was hallucinating from excessive shock and tension.
Seeing Bobby clutching his holster in fear, he chuckled inwardly.
Young officers lack experience; they need more training. They need to find the right solutions in any situation. Against this inhuman creature, guns were clearly useless!
He straightened his stiff body slightly, composed himself, and consulted with Chief Miller for the next course of action.
On the other side, Chief Miller clenched his fists tightly, his arms trembling. After a moment's consideration, he ordered: "Retreat!"
He didn't want his officers risking their lives against something clearly beyond the capabilities of ordinary law enforcement. If they were to investigate something, they needed to understand it and have proper backup.
"Checking for drug traffickers is dangerous enough. This thing doesn't traffic drugs; it tears people apart like paper. There's no point in engaging!"
Just thinking about the incident report he'd have to write gave him a headache. He wished he hadn't led the team himself this time.
How should this be written?
"Monster battles malevolent spirit, all three perish?"
If this case is filed with such a conclusion, his career is probably over.
Then he turned to look at Sergeant Davis sitting next to him and patted him on the shoulder meaningfully.
Sergeant Davis, seeing the chief checking on him, nodded gratefully, indicating that he was alright.
Chief Miller breathed a sigh of relief; he hadn't misjudged him.
The vehicles slowly reversed and disappeared along the highway outside the town.
Old Lamp, lying on the slope, watched the police officers a few hundred meters away gradually withdraw. He looked somewhat anxious and took out a communicator disguised in a phone case from his pocket.
"Doctor, the two Keepers and the malevolent spirit perished together. I wonder if this spirit is the Soul Collector? Did they complete the plot mission before they died?"
"Probably not. This is clearly not the end of the main storyline. There may be more plot developments. Continue to observe from there." Marcus weighed his words in his mind and replied to Old Lamp.
Upon hearing this, Old Lamp lay down on the ground again, blending into the surrounding shadows.
The wasteland outside the town had returned to the silence befitting 1 a.m.
The place where the vicious Lily had vanished.
The shadows of leaves rustled on the ground, and insects, relaxed beneath the leaves, began to crawl.
A centipede under a withered leaf had caught a pill bug in its jaws, preparing for a feast.
Suddenly, the ground trembled.
Based on its experience, this commotion indicated a colossal creature. It hesitated, released its prey, and burrowed into a crack in the ground.
The injured pill bug quickly curled into a ball, as if this would make it as solid as a rock.
Moments later, a massive, overwhelming footstep stomped down mercilessly, its owner unknowingly crushing the pill bug into pulp.
