Chapter 91: Summoning Holy Fire
"Father, Father!"
James hurriedly went to Reverend Thomas's side.
Reverend Thomas, playing the Reaper, turned to look at James upon hearing this.
During the process of performing the ritual, after the priest playing the Reaper invoked the spirit, he couldn't speak casually except for chanting prayers, otherwise he would lose his focus and spiritual connection.
"Can you save my wife? Someone said she's been possessed by an evil spirit for a year. My wife is pregnant, but she's not my wife, she..."
James was filled with anxiety, his words incoherent.
The Fast Talk duo and Kyle all subtly changed their expressions upon hearing this.
Reverend Thomas glanced at his altar boy, who was playing the role of acolyte. The acolyte immediately understood and spoke on behalf of the priest playing the Reaper: "Even if you're in a hurry, you have to finish the ritual first. We're almost there, and you can't just speak carelessly after invoking the spirits."
James had witnessed the power of the vicious Lily and knew that without a priest's help, he was powerless. He could only helplessly ask again:
"Could you give me a few blessed charms?"
He felt a chill run down his spine and had no sense of security.
Upon hearing this, Reverend Thomas took out a blessed paper from his robes and was about to hand it to James.
Suddenly, James felt an endless chill, a chill that seemed to ignore his flesh and blood, penetrating his bones.
His scalp tightened, and the cold air seeped into the top of his head, even though he was still wearing his baseball cap.
"Husband, what do you need the charm for!"
A shrill female voice came from behind him, filled with intense resentment.
James hurriedly turned his head and saw Lily wearing a dirty white dress, her body shrouded in gray malevolent energy, her face covered in blood, and her eyes filled with hatred and sorrow.
He was so frightened that he took two steps back, his legs going weak and almost falling to the ground.
This female demon was calling him "husband," which proved that the contents of the text message were true, and his wife was indeed long dead.
The procession performing the ritual was also frightened and scattered in panic.
The three actors playing the guardian angels instinctively held their ceremonial blades horizontally in front of their chests, but they also retreated in panic. After all, they were just actors, ordinary people, and hadn't even properly consecrated themselves.
Kyle and the Fast Talk duo were the fastest to react and move, retreating in unison to the other side behind Reverend Thomas, who played the Reaper, trying to get away from the evil spirit.
"Summon holy fire!"
a shout rang out.
Reverend Thomas stretched his arm to the sky, raised the blessed paper in his hand, and the paper burned in the air.
Although he was promoted through advertising, he did possess a little skill, and his charms were made with genuine materials.
But that was all he had.
The vicious Lily let out a shrill cry, and a gust of cold wind surged from her body, rushing towards Reverend Thomas.
Reverend Thomas held the charm high, but the newly lit paper instantly went out, leaving only a broken half, its edges charred black, ruined and unusable.
Crack!
Lily's figure flashed, instantly stopping behind Reverend Thomas. Reverend Thomas's neck was like a broken tree branch, his head drooping backward, the back of his head pressed against his spine.
He didn't know how to channel his life force to the Reaper, nor had he managed to summon any spiritual power.
He had checked the information before coming; this was clearly just someone who had died of illness, not someone who had died violently in the street. He didn't care much; he was just looking to make some money. The only capable master at St. Michael's, Father Cross, had died five years ago. Although Master Alex was skilled, he rarely took on cases anymore.
As soon as the priest playing the Reaper died, everyone scattered and fled.
The vicious Lily was even faster, the cracking sounds of bones breaking echoing all around.
Kyle also followed closely behind the Fast Talk duo.
"Danny, something's not right this time! How can the whole party be wiped out halfway through the main storyline?"
the cameraman said to the young host as they ran.
"I don't know, but we need to deal with this problem first."
As the host spoke, a short baton appeared in his hand and he threw it at Kyle's knee behind him. It whizzed through the air with a whoosh.
"Since it's already erupted, these kinds of characters are troublemakers. We can't let them keep following us."
Kyle originally wanted to dodge and continue following the two.
But suddenly he noticed something strange about the air in front of them, so he rolled aside and ran away.
However, there was a gray clump of mud the size of a marble on the ground. If you picked it up and examined it closely, you could see smooth lenses deep within the many pores on its surface.
"Watch out!" the cameraman shouted.
The host, Danny, stopped instantly.
A pale yellow, slightly transparent, paper-like substance with black and red symbols written on it suddenly appeared in his hand, and he slammed it forward.
A dark shadow had just transformed into Lily and was about to grab Danny's neck when it was hit by the charm.
The charm stuck to Lily's body, and its edges spread rapidly like a virus.
A moment later, the spell completely spread and covered Lily's entire body, like a spider spinning silk to bind its prey, enveloping the vicious Lily.
Danny, disregarding the pain, had just breathed a sigh of relief when the spell exploded.
"Big Bug, save me!"
Danny cried out urgently, dodging behind the cameraman. At the same time, he tore a piece of skin mixed with blood and a layer of flesh from his left arm, quickly writing on it with the blood.
"Damn it!"
the cameraman, Big Bug, cursed angrily.
He slammed the camera at Lily, and he himself began to change.
His originally slightly plump body rapidly shrank, a layer of grayish-blue skin covering his entire body, and his hair and beard disappeared.
Black veins bulged, covering his entire body, making him look like a mutated corpse preserved in formaldehyde.
Two pairs of spiral flesh-colored ridges grew on the skin below his Adam's apple, his fingers lengthened, and his nails sharpened, resembling talons.
His mouth split open in an inverted triangle shape, about 10 centimeters wide, and a tentacle-like appendage, covered in sharp teeth and resembling an octopus's tentacle, shot out more than two meters.
The end of the tentacle was wrapped with a yellowish bone claw covered in black spots, from which saliva dripped.
Big Bug's eyes narrowed, black tissue and blood vessels twitching his muscles. His body tensed, and the tentacle in his mouth, wielding the bone claw, exploded like a spring, lunging towards the vicious Lily.
Under the cold moonlight of the early morning, the vicious Lily's black hair flew wildly as she lunged straight at Big Bug, sending chills down one's spine.
But her terrifying assault was blocked.
The bone claw actually tore four bloody gashes into Lily's spectral body, abruptly stopping her.
Seeing that the attack was effective, Big Bug's expression brightened, and like a grotesque creature, he attacked relentlessly.
Lily's spectral white dress was torn to shreds.
Countless dark wounds appeared on her body, and the resentment in her eyes grew even stronger.
A piercing cry rang out, and more tears of blood flowed again along the dried bloodstains, dripping onto her clothes and gradually staining the white fabric red.
Lily suddenly stretched out her right hand, actually grabbing the oncoming bone claw. Her hand felt as if it had been corroded by acid, wisps of black smoke rising and dissipating in the air, her form dimming slightly.
She ignored it all, gripping the bone claw tightly.
As Lily's hand completely vanished, the bone claws on Big Bug's tentacles also scattered on the ground like a broken bracelet.
However, the damage caused by these bone claws, like the wounds on Lily's body, meant that her vanished hand could not be restored.
Freed from the restraint of the bone claws, Lily suddenly appeared behind Big Bug, her only remaining pale left hand gripping the upper jaw of Bug's inverted triangular mouth, pulling it backward.
