Chapter 57: Four-Layer Buff
In the dim light, Tomie walked in with light and graceful steps:
"Hello, your name is Kevin Harris, right?"
Kevin looked up at the woman in front of him, seemingly oblivious to the chaotic surroundings. He instinctively felt something was wrong:
"Who are you? What do you want?"
"My name is Tomie. Is Emma dating you?"
A struggle flashed in Kevin's eyes as he shouted:
"Yes, I'm Emma's boyfriend. I'm warning you, don't do anything stupid!"
Tomie covered her mouth and chuckled softly, saying seductively:
"Kevin, I like you!"
"I've liked you since the first moment I saw you."
She stepped forward and turned off the phone in Kevin's hand, saying again:
"Kevin, hold me!"
Tomie's allure was too strong; Kevin was completely captivated. He hugged Tomie tightly, stroking her smooth, black hair, and began to call out repeatedly:
"Tomie, Tomie, I love you!"
Tomie hugged Kevin, leaning on his shoulder, but sobbed,
"Kevin, I'm so scared. The restaurant owner went crazy just now and tried to kill me. He's looking for me. Help me, my love!"
Kevin's eyes flashed with murderous intent upon hearing this. Tomie was his; how dare someone hurt her? Unforgivable.
The heavyset restaurant owner appeared in the kitchen with a knife. Seeing the owner about to harm Tomie, Kevin quickly turned around while still holding her, but the knife pierced his shoulder.
Kevin released Tomie, picked up a long umbrella he had kept in the corner during the rain, and thrust the sharp tip of the umbrella like a spear at the restaurant owner.
The umbrella pierced the owner's stomach, and his obese body fell to the ground with a muffled thud.
"Hahaha, hahahahaha!"
Tomie laughed wildly as she saw Kevin kill the restaurant owner, though her tears still clung to her face.
Kevin ignored all of that and simply hugged Tomie again:
"Tomie, I love you, I'm willing to do anything for you."
Just then, there was another commotion at the kitchen door.
"You damned bastard! Tomie is mine!"
A sharp shout rang out, accompanied by a flash of cold steel, and a sharp knife pierced Kevin's back.
Thud! Thud!
After the knife was pulled out, two more stabs followed, and Kevin, along with the restaurant owner, fell to the ground with a series of muffled thuds.
"Tomie, why... correct, yes... I love you, Tomie, I have to correct you!"
Yamamoto pulled out the knife and approached the charming Tomie step by step.
"Yamamoto, you're finally here! I was so scared! This man killed everyone, and he forced himself on me!"
"Thank you for saving me, I love you too, Yamamoto!"
Upon seeing Yamamoto, Tomie rushed over and hugged him tightly, pleading with him.
"Yamamoto, let's go back home!"
Tomie cupped Yamamoto's face in her hands, her beautiful cheek almost touching his, whispering intimately in his ear.
At that moment, Yamamoto had only one thought in his mind: to dismember Tomie!
And he did just that, the knife in his hand plunged viciously into Tomie's neck. One cut, another, and another,
Tomie's head fell to the ground, her mouth emitting laughter: "Ah ha ha ha ha... a ha ha ha ha ha!"
Tomie died, dismembered again by Yamamoto. At this moment, a sliver of Yamamoto's consciousness gradually returned.
"What...what did I do? How could I kill my beloved Tomie again!"
As if under a love spell, Yamamoto had fallen in love with Tomie twice, dismembering her. In his mind, Tomie was already his most beloved person, and even in his conscious state, this couldn't be changed.
He was too immersed in the obsession.
"Very good, Mr. Yamamoto, you did a fantastic job!"
"Congratulations, you've corrected Tomie again and protected your love!"
Marcus, holding the tracker screen, slowly walked in from the doorway.
He had arrived just as Yamamoto stabbed Kevin.
He was simply experimenting, testing whether the rudimentary psychic control he had gained from the previous world would work.
Marcus had set up a remote-controlled incendiary device 150 feet away, aimed at the restaurant. Pressing a button would reduce the restaurant to ashes.
Then, he manipulated his emotions, maintaining a cold and focused state, approaching the restaurant step by step. Whenever the slightest thought of liking Tomie surfaced in his mind, he would press the button.
Tomie's ability also had a gradual transition time, like a slow poison, rather than instantly captivating someone.
This transition time could range from a few seconds to several days, depending on an ordinary person's willpower.
There was even a case where a man who only loved his deceased girlfriend ignored Tomie's allure because he loved her too much.
Moreover, if Tomie were temporarily killed, those infatuated with her would briefly regain their senses. Marcus believed his ability to control his emotions far surpassed that of the man grieving for his deceased girlfriend, which was why he dared to try.
As it turned out, he could indeed resist Tomie's allure and had no thoughts of her whatsoever, though he didn't know how long this would last.
Marcus felt that his current emotional state was like having multiple mental shields active at once—complete emotional detachment, iron willpower, psychic reinforcement, and combat focus—all four buffs combined.
Furthermore, he could control these four buffs at any time during emotional fluctuations, though these only affected his mind and body.
He refused to believe that even an ordinary person in the story could resist Tomie's temptation while he, in this state, would still be susceptible to her charm. However, he still needed to test it.
Yamamoto heard Marcus's voice, turned to stare at him, as if he had found an outlet for his frustration.
"It was you! You manipulated me! I killed Tomie! It's all your fault! You're the real culprit!"
Yamamoto shouted, lunging at Marcus with a knife.
Bang!
A shotgun instantly appeared in Marcus's hand, and a single shot sent Yamamoto sprawling, his chest a bloody mess.
Tomie's blood still stained the knife in Yamamoto's hand. Marcus didn't want her blood to seep into his flesh, even though he could absorb it.
"Just a pathetic wretch blinded by obsession. No sane person would believe me!"
Marcus sneered, looking at Yamamoto's last breath. He walked to Tomie's corpse and used his absorption ability on his right hand, which was enveloped in psychic energy.
Tomie and Yamamoto's remains withered away.
A faint power slowly flowed into Marcus's body, and his physique was slightly strengthened. If the energy were doubled, it was estimated to strengthen him by 1%, meaning two Tomies were equivalent to 1%.
And, perhaps it was just his imagination, Marcus felt his skin seemed a little fairer.
Tomie...
she was like a power-up!
Marcus felt somewhat unsatisfied!
This world wasn't lacking in Tomie; she multiplied much faster than weeds.
He retrieved the piece of Tomie's flesh and blood that he had specifically reserved—the one that hadn't been absorbed—and stored its dried remains back into the deeper space of his Life Box.
Marcus planned to find a place to study and compare whether the absorbed remains could continue to grow.
