Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: Vesemir’s Shock

As the royal city of Temeria, Vizima was always bustling.

Especially in the Temple Quarter, where the poor gathered, every day a large number of young people, workers, or adventurers, eager to make money in Vizima, poured into the city.

With their strong bodies and the resilience to fight for their dreams, they were the cheapest labor force in the city, and also the most diligent group of people.

When Vesemir arrived at the Hairy Bear Inn with his apprentice Leo, the famous tavern was already packed with guests, overflowing with people.

Seeing such a scene, the old Witcher, already somewhat dejected from not finding a contract, sighed and turned to Leo, saying:

"Forget it, go buy some bread and potatoes from the boss, and we'll eat outside."

"And ask them if they have any cheap rooms. If not, sleeping in the woodshed or warehouse is fine too."

Hearing this, Leo also felt a bit down, but he could still accept it.

After all, these days, traveling from Kaer Morhen to Vizima City meant camping out in the open every day, sometimes even walking in the rain, so he had grown accustomed to harsh environments.

Having a place to sleep with a roof over their heads tonight was already considered quite lucky.

However, their luck wasn't that bad.

Before they could act, a tall, thin man, who looked like a Skellige fellow, suddenly walked over and said to them:

"Hey! Are both of you Witchers?"

"My boss is also a Witcher."

"He wants to invite you to sit with him and treat you to drinks."

The boss is a Witcher?

Hearing that someone was inviting them for drinks, Leo immediately looked at his teacher, thinking they had met an acquaintance of his teacher.

Vesemir also turned to look in the direction the Skellige man was pointing and immediately saw a tall, handsome man smiling at them, looking very approachable.

His striking amber cat-like eyes with vertical pupils, and the Viper School Witcher medallion hanging on his chest, all indicated the other party's identity.

A Witcher who had arrived in Vizima earlier than them.

As an old Witcher who had lived for several hundred years, Vesemir wasn't particularly surprised.

In his younger days, it wasn't uncommon to encounter fellow Witchers while traveling.

Everyone would sit together, have a couple of drinks, and exchange information.

Although the number of Witchers had been decreasing over the years, there were still opportunities to meet fellow Witchers.

However, the young Witcher who invited them for drinks was simply too handsome.

He didn't have much of the weathered and dusty aura of a Witcher who had endured many hardships and lived on the road; instead, he looked more like a noble's son, with an extraordinary temperament.

Vesemir calmly nodded at the young man. He was currently looking for a local Vizima resident to inquire for information, so of course, he wouldn't refuse the invitation.

When he pushed through the crowd and sat down at the table with Leo, he noticed that next to the young Witcher sat a beautiful young woman, dressed in bright, fashionable clothes and wearing a strange hat.

Judging by the lute she held in her arms, she appeared to be a bard.

A female bard? That's quite rare.

The tall young Witcher was very enthusiastic. After they were seated, he immediately introduced himself:

"Hello, my name is Guilliman."

"Judging by your medallions, you must be Witchers of the Wolf School."

"Tell me your names, let's have a drink together."

By his appearance, Guilliman had actually already recognized the old man in front of him as Vesemir, the Grandmaster of the Wolf School.

As for the younger one, he didn't know who he was, but it didn't matter.

After all, it couldn't be Geralt or Eskel, those two with distinct appearances. It might, however, be Lambert, that foul-mouthed bastard.

At this moment, besides feeling a bit surprised at seeing familiar characters from the game, he was more curious about Vesemir's purpose for coming to Vizima this time.

As he recalled, the old man usually stayed at Kaer Morhen, guarding the home of the Wolf School, and even if he went out, he wouldn't travel too far.

However, it was still a year before the official storyline began, so it wasn't out of the question that this old Witcher had visited Vizima City before.

Vesemir was not a difficult Witcher to get along with. Hearing Guilliman's question, he patiently replied:

"I am Vesemir, and he is my current apprentice, Leo."

"Young man, it's a pleasure to meet you."

"If you hadn't invited us over, I'm afraid we would have had to sit on the stones outside and eat dinner."

Vesemir and Leo took the beers handed to them by the bartender, made a toasting gesture to Guilliman, and then continued:

"Are you a Witcher of the Viper School, Guilliman?"

"How is your Grandmaster, Master Ivar Evil-Eye, doing now?"

"The last time I met him was over a hundred and fifty years ago, but since then, he has rarely come to the North."

He truly was an old relic among Witchers; as soon as he started reminiscing, he brought up a figure like Ivar Evil-Eye, the founder of the Viper School.

However, when facing outsiders, he could still wave the banner of the Viper School and present himself as a Viper Witcher.

Now that he had met a fellow Witcher, and an old Witcher Grandmaster whom he would likely continue to interact with in the future and needed to treat with sincerity, Guilliman decided not to tell such an easily exposed lie. So he said:

"No, Vesemir."

"I can only be considered half a Viper School Witcher, this medallion I found on a Witcher's corpse."

"As for myself, well, you can understand me as one of the first-generation Witchers created by Alzur during the Witcher Order era."

"And also a special individual among Witchers, a Witcher with a special physique."

"At that time, we Witchers didn't even have schools."

The body created by the system was too difficult to explain, and too bizarre.

Guilliman directly pinned this on Alzur, the progenitor of Witchers.

This way, the many differences between his body and other Witchers could be explained.

Anyway, Alzur had been dead for several hundred years, leaving no one to contradict him, and he certainly couldn't stand up and confront him about anything.

This was clearly a very explosive piece of news, at least for Witchers.

Hey, hey, hey, look at how young you are.

And you're telling me you're a first-generation Witcher from hundreds of years ago, personally created by Alzur.

That's just too absurd.

Vesemir blinked, almost not believing that what he heard wasn't an illusion.

His first reaction was that this young man was lying. Even he, an old Witcher relic, had never seen a first-generation Witcher.

That was probably before the era when Erland, the founder of the Griffin School, and Anahad, the founder of the Bear School, split the Order due to ideological differences.

Before that, Vesemir hadn't even been born, and it was difficult to ascertain the historical details from that period.

Seeing Vesemir's expression, Guilliman knew that the other party was a bit taken aback by him.

After all, the title of a first-generation Witcher was quite special.

A Witcher personally created by Alzur, the progenitor of Witchers, this carried far more weight than the apprentices later taken in by the various schools.

To draw a comparison, it was like a centuries-old grand sect, now with dwindling talent, suddenly having someone appear claiming to be a direct disciple of the founding patriarch. How could that not be surprising?

Since it wasn't yet time to discuss this issue in detail, and the two parties weren't familiar to that extent.

Guilliman waved his hand at Vesemir and then, with an open and enthusiastic expression, said:

"This question is my secret. If there's an opportunity in the future, I'll let you know."

"Oh, by the way, Vesemir."

"What is your purpose for coming to Vizima?"

"If you're looking for contracts, I can arrange a few well-paying ones for you, so you can make a big profit."

"If you're looking for information, you can also ask me."

"I'm somewhat well-known in Vizima now, so I should be able to help you solve a lot of troubles."
