Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 — Velvet Lights, Hidden Blades

Fine, fine. I'm going to get dressed," Ava said before walking into the bathroom.

Daisy threw herself onto the bed, lazily scrolling through her phone while soft music played in the background. The mansion was calm, almost too calm — like the silence before a storm.

Half an hour later, the bathroom door opened.

Ava stepped out.

She wore a white corset blouse under a cropped white tweed blazer, paired with a matching tweed mini skirt.

The outfit hugged her slender, natural curves perfectly, highlighting her milky, flawless, glass-like skin. Her honey-blonde silky hair flowed down her back like a waterfall, and the heels added elegance to her already dangerous beauty.

She looked soft.

She looked delicate.

She looked like trouble wrapped in silk.

"Damn, mama… you hot," Daisy smirked, winking.

"Enough. Let's go. The party already started," Ava replied calmly.

They left the room, passing Prim in the living room. He was scrolling through his phone, not even sparing them a glance, his cold aura untouched by their presence.

Outside, Ava entered her sports car and drove.

By the time they arrived, it was already 4:30 PM.

The club stood tall like a palace of glass and gold — a symbol of wealth, power, and secrets.

This was no ordinary club.

This was Velvet Crown — a luxury club only for elites.

Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling like frozen stars. Soft golden lights reflected on polished marble floors.

Expensive perfume mixed with alcohol filled the air. VIP lounges surrounded the dance floor, where heirs, celebrities, young masters, and rich daughters laughed, flirted, and competed silently through status and pride.

Some came to dance.

Some came to show power.

Some came to hunt.

And some came to destroy.

On the first floor, the younger elites ruled — music, drinks, seduction, and rivalry.

On the second floor, hidden behind glass railings and private balconies, sat the true monsters of society — business tycoons, political figures, investors, empire builders.

Their eyes watched everything below like gods observing mortals.

Every smile below could decide a business deal above.

Every mistake below could destroy a family name.

"I'm going to dance," Daisy said.

"Fine. I'll be at the drink section," Ava replied calmly.

They split.

From the first-floor balcony, Mia noticed Ava. Her lips curved slightly. She glanced at Debbie.

Debbie nodded and quietly sent a message.

Across the hall, a red-haired girl received the text.

Her hand trembled.

But she walked forward.

Ava was calmly sipping her drink when—

SLAP.

The sound echoed across the entire club.

Music stopped.

Voices died.

Silence.

"You bitch! You are the reason why I—"

Before she could finish—

Ava calmly poured her drink on the girl's face.

Then—

SLAP.

The girl staggered.

Tears gathered in her eyes.

Another slap followed, colder, sharper, louder.

The girl stepped back, shaking.

"You think you're big because your family is powerful? Aren't your parents dead? Why are you acting special?" the red-haired girl shouted, desperate.

Ava laughed softly.

"Repeat that."

"I will! Aren't you an orphan now? Your father's company will be taken. Without your mother and the Carter family, you are nothing! So why are you still proud?" she yelled.

For a moment —

The air froze.

Then a voice exploded from above.

"Madness."

Everyone looked up.

The second floor.

The real rulers had spoken.

"Miss Ava's parents are not dead. What kind of child spreads such lies? Whose daughter is she? I would never work with such a family," a powerful pharmaceutical CEO said coldly.

"Miss Ava is a prodigy. Mister Nathan personally trained her and even handed company authority to her. And this girl dares insult her? Pity her parents for raising such stupidity," another tycoon added.

"Why would the Atlas family invite someone so foolish?" a noblewoman said sharply.(Atlas family is mia family name by the way)

The red-haired girl froze.

Her face turned pale.

Her parents were standing upstairs.

Watching.

Their expressions — dark, furious, terrified.

Her family depended on those people.

Investments.

Power.

Status.

Everything.

And now —

She had destroyed it with one slap.

Her legs trembled.

She finally understood.

Mia and Debbie never told her…

That today, the second floor was open.

And she had just ruined her entire family in front of monsters.

Ava slowly raised her hand.

Silence fell instantly.

"It's fine. It's just a children's matter. We were playing," Ava said calmly.

Her voice was light, almost harmless.

The powerful figures on the second floor exchanged glances, then coughed awkwardly and returned to their conversations. The music slowly resumed, but the atmosphere had already changed.

Ava lowered her hand.

Her eyes turned cold.

She looked straight at the red-eyed girl.

"I have done you no harm. Why did you slap me? Speak. My patience is not high," Ava said, her voice soft but freezing.

Upstairs, Mia glanced at Debbie.

Debbie clenched her fist, then stood up.

"Because her boyfriend broke up with her… since he likes you. Tsk, such a fool. Doing all this for a man who doesn't care about her,"

Debbie said smoothly, lying without hesitation while staring sharply at the red-eyed girl — a silent warning to stay quiet.

Ava laughed softly.

Her eyes briefly shifted toward Mia, who stood on the first-floor balcony sipping her drink like nothing concerned her.

"Childish," Ava murmured.

"Get out," Daisy said coldly.

The red-eyed girl didn't move.

"Leave," Daisy repeated, her voice sharper.

"Daisy, isn't that too much? We are all friends here," Debbie said with a polite smile.

Daisy turned slowly.

Her gaze was full of disgust.

"Shut up. Who the hell are you calling friends? You are just Mia's dog. And Mia herself is not even worth the dirt under my shoes. Not on my level. She doesn't call herself my friend — talk less of you," Daisy said.

Debbie's face went pale.

"I'm not like Ava who is kind. You are an eyesore. Leave," Daisy continued coldly.

Then she turned toward Mia.

"Mia, are you trying to humiliate us? Just because your uncle holds a high government position, you think you can stand equal with us? I heard he's begging for connections to meet my father. Don't make me destroy those chances," Daisy said lazily.

Mia stood up from the balcony, her eyes dark.

"Are you threatening me? Ava, control your friend," Mia snapped.

Ava smiled faintly.

"She is not a dog I can control."

Debbie's fingers tightened.

For some reason…

That sentence felt like a slap directly at her.

Mia glared at Ava, then slowly took a deep breath.

Her eyes shifted to the red-haired girl.

"Get out. Now," Mia snapped.

The red-haired girl bit her lip.

"I… I want to go to the bathroom first ," she muttered and hurried away.

Mia sat back down, irritation flashing across her face.

"What is everyone staring at? Play the music," she ordered coldly.

The DJ hurriedly resumed the music.

The party atmosphere returned — but the tension remained.

Debbie calmly returned upstairs.

"Something is wrong," Daisy said, folding her arms.

"I know. Everything seems fishy it seems mia is finally going attack," Ava replied lazily, covering her mouth as she yawned.

In the restroom, the red-haired girl locked herself inside and broke down crying.

If she refused, Debbie would leak her nudes during her father's conference.

If she obeyed, she would destroy herself.

Either way… she was finished.

With trembling hands, she wiped her tears and stared at the message on her phone.

If they don't protect me… I'll drag them down with me.

Her eyes hardened.

She stepped out — not leaving, but waiting near the kitchen.

Right on time, Asher came out carrying a tray of drinks.

The girl rushed forward, bumping into him, secretly dropping the pill into one glass.

"Can't you watch where you're going—" she started, then froze slightly, blushing.

Up close… Asher looked ridiculously handsome in the waiter uniform.

"Give this drink to Ava. She asked for it," she said quickly and ran before he could respond.

Asher who had seen her slip the pill in stared at the glass.

The pill hadn't dissolved yet.

"…Am I dumb, or does she think I am, putting the drug in the drink then blame me for drugging and if I don't do it those planning against me would still attack" he muttered.

Then he remembered — Debbie visiting his nightclub, paying his manager triple to send him here as a waiter.

"So that's the plan. Make me the scapegoat screw it ," he murmured, then shrugged casually.

He walked back into the hall.

As if cursed — or lucky — no one touched the drink meant for Ava.

Until Ava herself picked it up.

Asher paused.

Well… interesting.

"You're a waiter?" Ava asked coolly.

Asher rolled his eyes and turned to leave.

"Tsk. Go bring me a drink. Acting proud for nothing," Daisy scoffed.

Asher paused, then silently left to get her one.

Upstairs, Debbie's phone rang.

"Did you do it?" she asked.

After hearing confirmation, she cut the call.

"She slipped it in," Debbie told Mia.

Mia smiled slowly as she watched Ava finish the drink.

"What are you waiting for? Separate Daisy from her. Take Ava to the room upstairs. The shareholders, reporters, and paparazzi are ready. Once she disgraces herself — sleeping with old men, confessing her parents are dead — the Nathan empire will collapse and drag the Carter family down faster than gravity," Mia said softly, laughing.

Minutes later, Ava felt dizzy.

"Damn…" she muttered.

She excused herself and walked toward the service hallway — grabbing Asher and dragging him into an empty corridor.

"What did you put in my drink?" she demanded coldly.

"I didn't put anything. Though… someone asked me to give you a specific drink," Asher replied calmly.

Ava glared.

"I'm just doing my job. You're the one who lowered your guard, not me," he shrugged.

Before Ava could respond, footsteps echoed.

Debbie's voice.

Ava reacted instantly.

She dragged Asher into the bathroom, pushing him inside a stall. She forced him to sit, covering his mouth.

Two men entered.

"Why would she be here?" one asked.

"Maybe she figured it out and is hiding," the other replied.

"Should we check the stalls?"

They began opening each one.

Inside, Ava suddenly kneel on Asher's lap kneeling on his lap , pressing her full weight on him, one arm wrapped around his neck.

Asher gasped.

"Who's there?" one man shouted.

Ava glared silently at Asher.

"Tsk. A guy can't take a dump without you acting like this is a mafia movie," Asher snapped sarcastically.

"Why didn't you say something earlier?" the first man frowned.

The second bent down, seeing only Asher's shoes.

He nodded.

"Should I announce I'm taking a dump every day?" Asher scoffed.

The first man was about to climb the stall—

Suddenly—

Ava bit Asher's shoulder hard.

"HOLY—!" Asher screamed dramatically.

The man froze.

"You okay?" the second asked.

"God, I'm about to drop a nuclear one. It's gonna smell," Asher groaned loudly.

The two men exchanged looks… and slowly backed away.

Outside, Debbie waited.

"Did you see her?"

"No," they replied and left.

Inside the stall, silence returned.

Ava leaned slightly against Asher, breathing slowly.

"Get off me," Asher muttered.

"Shut up," Ava replied coldly, trying to steady herself.

Here is the refined continuation:

"You gave me the drink… so you're responsible," Ava muttered, her voice low but dangerous.

"Don't even think about moving. If they don't find you, they'll come back," Asher replied, gripping her waist to steady her.

"Stop shifting… you're heavy," he added.

Ava pressed her weight harder out of annoyance pressing his tool . Asher sucked in a breath and pushed her slightly, but she grabbed his tie — both of them losing balance and falling to the floor.

Ava exhaled slowly, dizzy but still sharp.

"You're taking revenge because I forced you into the competition, right? But listen carefully — if I fall, you fall with me. They're planning to use you as the scapegoat. You want peace? Forget it. Help me."

Without waiting, she grabbed his phone and dialed.

"…Hello?" Prim's voice came.

"I've been drugged," Ava said calmly.

Silence.

"…What do you want me to do?" Prim asked, confused.

Asher chuckled softly.

Ava's tone suddenly turned cold and sharp.

"Prim Nathan Carter. Listen carefully. I'm drugged, dizzy, and stuck in a bathroom while some disgusting old men are looking for me. I'm already losing patience. If you don't want to be the first person I deal with tonight — get here. Now."

She cut the call.

Then she contacted her bodyguard and returned the phone to Asher.

"Well… that was interesting," Asher said, amused. "The perfect princess has claws."

Ava glared.

"Why not call your loud friend?" he asked.

"If you were setting a trap, would you let the target's friends ruin it?" Ava replied coldly.

Asher smirked. "Fair point. Enjoy your problem."

He turned and opened the bathroom door—

Just as a cleaner arrived, pushing a trolley.

Ava instantly pinched Asher's waist from behind.

He paused, then spoke smoothly to the cleaner.

"I spilled drinks on the second floor. I was about to clean it. Can I borrow your trolley? I'll handle the whole floor and return it."

The cleaner agreed.

Moments later—

Ava hid inside the trolley.

Asher pushed it calmly out of the bathroom and into the elevator.

Inside, reporters and camera crew were already waiting.

"Tsk… tonight will be the biggest scoop of the season," one reporter whispered excitedly.

"…Won't we get into trouble?" the cameraman asked nervously.

"Not a chance. By the time they react, the damage will be done. The caller said all the big names are here. And when the elite gather… trouble always follows."

The elevator dinged.

Second floor.

The doors slowly opened.
