Chapter 27: Curiosity
Yuri was finishing the last tasks in the kitchen as usual when assistant Katı walked in from behind.
Kari (smiling):
— The little one seems to be doing well.
Taro lets out a relieved sigh.
Taro:
— Yeah, I heard… But I was really upset. Did you see the drawing she made?
Katı rubs her head.
Kari:
— Haha… um, no.
Taro smiles gently.
Taro:
— That child has clearly been through a lot of pain. You can tell just by looking at her. But from now on…
Katı turns off the running faucet and faces Taro.
Kari:
— Don't worry, Taro. She'll be okay.
Kaito was training in the gym with lightning swords shaped like chains. He was tense and angry. He swung the blades so fast that electricity burst out, nearly damaging the training walls.
His breathing grew erratic.
Kaito (thinking):
— Damn that woman…
He throws the swords to the ground and starts punching the air.
Kaito:
— Leaving a child in my care… with an ability…
He stops. Closes his eyes. Outside the window, despite the cloudy sky, the full moon shines beautifully.
Kaito:
— Damn it…
He stares at the moon.
Kaito (firmly):
— I'll make her strong. No matter what.
Sora gently covers Haruto with a blanket as he sleeps holding Yuki's hand. The doctor enters.
Dr. Mitsuni:
— Coffee?
Sora:
— Yes, please.
Dr. Mitsuni:
— She's been asleep for a while… How many times did she lose control where they found her?
Yuki wakes up.
Yuki:
— Where am I… Haru?
Haruto wakes instantly and hugs her tightly.
Haruto:
— Yuki!
Yuki:
— I can't breathe…
Everyone laughs softly as relief fills the room.
Later, Yuki quietly reveals her memories—her parents, being called a demon, being locked in a basement, and people covered in black liquid.
She breaks down crying.
Haruto comforts her, stroking her hair.
That night, plans are made, secrets deepen… and Kaito realizes there is no escaping his fate.
