Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Ariana Dumbledore

Lucas has always been stable.

Despite being alone with a difficult disease, he hustled, he survived, and died, all without any unnecessary feelings, taking it all in stride.

Even after rebirth, he faced many challenges. He was a servant? Not treated well? Weak? Fine. In just a little over a month, he fixed everything, with the only one task remaining: Being the master of Delacour household.

In these two lives, there has only been one time that he actually lost it, like completely: when his mother died.

And when he saw the smoke, darkness and explosions, the same feeling returned again.

Lucas's magic went berserk, magical lines appearing all over his body. His muscles bulged, and his pupils contracted, his mind suddenly processing everything clearly and accurately.

His magic suddenly started depleting very fast.

His left hand dropped the shield it was holding, going into the pouch to search for his broomstick.

But before the shield could even hit the ground, dust exploded as his feet kicked off ground, propelling him forward.

While running, he chanted three spells in a low voice, his wand surprisingly pointing at himself. The result? The spells were quickly absorbed.

While doing this, he zig-zagged through the spellfire of the surprised death eaters and leapt off.

"What?!"

Before they could properly react, a figure appeared above them, having jumped directly over them.

Time seemed to slow down for them for a split second, as the memory deeply imprinted into their minds.

In the next moment, in mid-flip, while upside down, Lucas's sword flashed, slicing through the necks of two death eaters, and a third one's neck erupted through a cutting hex.

Lucas finally drew a broom stick his left hand had been searching for and he jumped again, mounting mid-air and he blasted off straight in the direction of the Dumbledore campside.

He fired the remaining two more spells behind him, to which only one death eater reacted in time, the head of the other one exploding in a meat shower.

But the one who did manage to hastily put up a shield was thrown back with great force, and his head hit the transfigured wall that had been hardened for the purpose of protection.

But Lucas didn't look behind to see the result.

With his mind suddenly working extremely fast, it was just a thing he had done on his way without wasting time with the purpose of checking this new powerup.

"Not enough."

Even though he had just gotten stronger, Lucas's heart was still heavy.

He flew at full speed, head completely bowed, chin tucked in. But throughout the journey, he was continuously casting spells on himself.

Lucas wasn't the only one who rushed here. He could see many others flying or running in that direction, either to help or fight.

The tents of different people rolled beneath him, the empty spaces having small figures of wizardfolk running about in panic.

Lucas arrived at the scene, his head wrapped in a dark cloth to hide his features and his eyes covered in a pair of shades.

There was no way, his eyes were too recognisable. But on the bright side, there was so much fire here and that sunglasses were actually better.

He also put away his sword, only keeping a large shield and his wand in his hands.

As he surveyed the area, his breath hitched. The scene was one of utter chaos.

The air was thick with smoke, and bodies lay strewn intermittently across the ground and some even on the tents, their limbs missing or twisted in odd directions.

A bunch of wizards were running about, firing spells at a single entity.

Yes, an entity. It was just a dark mass that was lashing out at everything.

Various aurors were trying to attack and distract it while the entity attacked a single group of wizards and aurors that was protecting three people with auburn hair.

Yes, that was his mother Aurora, Adeline, and Aiden.

Seeing his mother alive, Lucas could finally breath again. But it was obvious that the situation was still dire.

"An obscurus…"

It wasn't covered in the main HP series, only having small mentions. It appears mostly in extra materials and the fantastic beast series.

Obviously, this world has significantly changed, and death eaters have actually managed to obtain an obscurous like Grindelwald did.

Obscurus is an extremely dangerous existence which comes into being when kids force themselves to suppress their magic.

The previous Lucas had a high possibility of creating one, the only difference being his special constitution and difference in mentality. Lucas did not 'try' to suppress his magic. It was quite the opposite.

Obscuruses are a mass of darkness and smoke with the ability to manifest physically.

There is no real counter to it.

Lucas watched as the spells fired by the wizards turned completely useless against the entity while releasing a few large tentacles, breaking through their barriers.

Right before it tore through their formation, a wall appeared from the ground, blocking the tentacles. Lucas realized that it was Aiden who did that.

Enraged, the creature banged against the collective shields of the group protecting the Dumbledores.

Yes, it was the protego maxima shown in the series. Multiple people can contribute to it.

Surprisingly, the shield was managing to hold on. Lucas could see that even Aiden and Adeline were contributing their magic to it.

To his surprise, his mother was actually quite formidable.

She had several extremely light orbs surrounding the obscurous, which seemed to have a slight restraining effect on it. And she was reinforcing the shield from time to time, its magic brightening due to her.

Another person who was shining very brightly was Aiden. Walls would rise from the ground, get reinforced, broken, repaired and reinforced again.

At this moment, the Obscurus suddenly stretched to the sides, its darkness turned into two huge fists that struck the group from both sides.

This time, several wizards were thrown away, incapacitated, but more stepped in their place.

In this situation, what was most annoying was the large group of death eaters who were watching from far away.

Since the Obscurus had no sentience, they did not dare to approach the area. But they fired their spells, mostly Killing curses at the Dumbledores whenever the group was occupied by the Obscurus.

This was actually what was holding back Adeline. She had to block those spells with physical objects and walls.

Lucas immediately flew over to these cowards and raised his wand.

But seeing the attack from so close, the death eaters didn't stay still, firing various spells at him.

Unfortunately for them, it didn't work. With his mind working extremely fast, and a large shield in hand, Lucas expertly blocked or avoided the green spells, taking in the rest.

This time, he did it openly. With his identity hidden and more things to attend to, he finally stopped holding back.

"What?!"

"Why didn't it work?"

"Fire again!"

"My turn."

There is one thing about his absorbed magic. Within a short window frame, he has complete control over its release.

He aimed his wand at the group and magic started to gather in it.

Then, he fired his magic into the middle of the group.

It was the combined magic from 7 bombardas.

BOOM

An explosion blasted apart everything with a 10 meter range while sending the rest of the death eaters flying due to the shockwave.

"What…?"

"Who is that?"

"He's an ally!"

"Is he a Dumbledore too?"

Everyone was surprised by a new variable that had suddenly appeared.

The wizards fighting them didn't miss this opportunity as a large wave of spells arrived next.

Lucas did to the other two more Death Eater groups while the rest of the wizards fought the obscurous.

But he could not relax at all. Seeing so many wizards getting torn apart, his mother was biting her lip, a pained expression on her face.

Lucas knew that look. Even when they were dirt poor, she would still sometimes help those who were even poorer through simple favors like old clothes or finding them a job.

When seeing news of the death of random people, she'd feel sad and pray. And so on.

So, she absolutely cannot see so many people continue to die because of her.

The obscurus was getting more and more adept at using its magic, meaning more casualties were inevitable.

Lo and behold, his dearest stupidiest mother stepped forward, drawing a ritual knife, which raised alarm bells in Lucas's mind.

Knowing her nature, and knowing that this woman has been hanging out with a certain redhead known for sacrificial magic, Lucas knew that his mother was about to do something that was not good for her in order to stop this fight.

"Still as saintly as ever," Lucas muttered under his breath, his irritation and helplessly flaring. This was one of the reasons why he was coldhearted. Because he had already seen the result of compassion.

But for one woman, there was no way his heart could remain cold.

Lucas's eyes opened wide and his pupils contracted again, magic flooding his system.

Then he dove straight into the shallow part of the Obscurus's smoky darkness.

For a split second, his ears were filled with a static sound and his skin felt like it was being bitten by ants. His broom swerved due to magical interference, until he finally emerged from the other side.

"Woah…"

That was… an experience.

Since the obscurus did not expect him, it couldn't intentionally harden the smoke in time.

But since, that smoke darkness is actually a suppressed mass of magical energy, which inherently had a violent and corroding nature. Meaning… it can be absorbed.

Lucas suddenly found a small amount of violent dark energy in his system.

Cracking and snapping sounds came from the darkness as the Obscurus suddenly became enraged.

As Lucas dove for it again, it raised itself to meet him, this time its darkness very dense.

Lucas veered off course, only touching the tip of the darkness. And he was glad that he did so, because he now found the darkness completely solid and hardly absorbable.

Good news? His mother had lowered the ritual knife.

Bad news? The obscurus's attention was now completely on him. Maybe it didn't like its magic being absorbed or simply the sheer guts of Lucas.

There's another bad news: Obscurus can fly.

Lucas flew around, jerking in random directions, but actually, each time he was dodging Obscurus's physical attacks.

In a straight line, its speed was actually faster than Lucas, but it couldn't keep up his sharp turns.

But suddenly, Lucas heard the sound of thousands of glasses breaking, a sign of extreme emotions from obscurus.

"What the—?"

In the next moment, darkness seemed to envelope him from all sides.

'...Am I cooked?'

Lucas suddenly dove down, pointing his wand at the shallowest part.

Then he fired the magic he had absorbed from the obscurus in the form of a fist-like shape.

There was a sound of a loud impact before the fist broke through, its form dissipating into smoke in the process and Lucas burst out of the gap, flying down.

Although he was alive and well, now he truly had no way of dealing with this thing.

Helpless, he could only go down again, hoping to use the lives of canon fodder wizards to hold it again and instead focus on stopping his mother from sacrificing herself.

But when he almost reached the ground, a shield appeared behind him, stopping the obscurus in its place.

Lucas looked down at the source of the intense wand light, and the first thing he saw was a head full of long white hair.

Seeing brilliant blue eyes staring back at him, Lucas broke eyecontact. Because he had felt a magic trying gently enter his mind.

Lucas didn't even stop to look back. He flew far, far away into a random direction, landing amidst a crowd of people and removed his disguise, quickly blending in.

The amount of magic power needed to single handedly stop that thing in place, when it's charging forward, completely solidified at that speed?

Yeah, the most powerful wizard had arrived. And Lucas was not going to meet her like this.

From afar, he saw more and more white barriers appear from all sides, trapping the creature completely.

The barriers shrank until the creature was completely contained in a cube that appeared nothing but a ball of bright white light from a distance.

And thus, the dangerous entity that seemed completely unstoppable was stopped just like that.

Watching from afar, Lucas only feel deep hunger for more power.
