Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The First Fight

Fleur looked at the shield offered to her, her derriere still burning from the slap she had received.

Everything was happening too fast for her to process and make educated decisions, as she let Lucas direct her according to his wishes.

But when he mentioned "Revenge for her friend", everything became clear to her.

The fire that she had been suppressing within her this whole time erupted once again.

Isn't this exactly what she wanted?

Her friend had been brutally tortured to death by the Death Eaters, and she couldn't even retaliate.

Because she had no way of finding even a single person who would admit to being a death eater.

But now, these fuckers have actually served themselves on a platter to her.

"Go wild. I'll keep an eye on Gabrielle."

With that, the last hurdle vanished from Fleur's mind as she turned full on into battlemode.

….

Seeing Fleur settled, Lucas turned back to the Death Eaters. Their plan of catching the veelas by surprise had already failed when he exposed them preemptively.

Furthermore, their charge had now slowed, with various booby traps tearing gaps in their advance and buying the veela precious seconds to mobilize.

"Veelas, hold your fire!" he shouted, raising his fist. "Do not make the first move."

His gaze shifted to Apolline, who had already drawn her wand and positioned herself beside Gabrielle.

"Madame," Lucas said, voice low but firm, "could you connect the Ministry's senior officials on your mirror?"

Apoliine's eyes widened, her tough composure momentarily faltering as she realized how big that reminder was.

Why were death eaters so scary? Because the justice system of France, like canon Britain, is completely rigged in favor of Purebloods.

So, as long as a death eater doesn't die, he can get away scottfree no matter what.

But, if the veelas accidentally kill a few death eaters while trying to protect themselves, they would be the ones punished instead, citing lack of evidence of self defence (memories aren't counted as evidence).

But livestreaming these death eaters attacking right to the faces of those old purebloods' faces would leave them no way of denying it anymore.

"How long do we have to wait?!" Fleur asked anxiously, unable to contain herself.

Behind them, screams had already started to come from other parts of the camps, flames and smoke visible even from a distance. Obviously, they were not the only ones attacked.

"Hold it…" Lucas raised his fist. "hold it…"

The remaining Death Eaters finally reached the edge of the clearing. Now, they were clearly visible. Their numbers were at least 40-50, most of them wearing a skull mask which glinted in the darkness.

This shows the mobilization power of the death eaters in this world.

But from their clothing and actions, it was easy to guess that most of them were snatchers who just jumped on the opportunity of experiencing a veela, or under the imperious curse.

"Attack! Kill and Capture those non-humans!"

"The one with the most kills will get to choose the spoils!"

"Avada Kedavra!"

Already furious with the traps, they started firing spells while taking cover behind the trees, many of the spells illegal.

"Now!"

Fleur cast a fireball at the group, and at the same time, at least 50 more fireballs were fired at the death eaters.

But… it seems that these veela weren't very experienced since there were many fireballs that were clearly off course, some even falling flat.

On the other hand, despite the cover, a few of the veela were hit by the spells, sustaining injuries or worse.

Clearly, their side was going to lose. Or so it seemed.

As the very first fireball landed on the ground, Lucas's last trap in the area was triggered.

The flammable substance on the ground was ingited and a bright light erupted, followed by bloodcurdling screams from the death eaters.

Within a second, flames had spread in a large area of forest, completely enveloping the death eaters.

"...."

Even the veelas weren't expecting something like this to happen.

Lucas quietly lowered the mirror that was broadcasting this spectacle to the ministers, making a cutting gesture.

Apolline cut the call and Lucas looked around at the stunned crowd of veelas, some of whom were clutching their chests while some even vomiting.

"Well, it's just alcohol! Finish the job already!!" He barked. "There are more coming from the other side!"

Actually, it was not. He had mixed in some flammable magical substances to the bottles before bringing them here.

Fleur snapped out of it first, turning her head. And sure enough, she saw more figures approaching the veela tents from the other side.

Obviously, their plan was to attack from both sides at once.

Maybe other groups spread throughout the sea of camps were also supposed to attack at the same time.

But when they heard the screams of the victims of Lucas's traps, they might have thought it was go-time and started the action early.

Whatever the case, this incoming group was clearly late to the party and they were also not spared from Lucas's traps, which also gave the veela army some time to adjust their mindsets.

Without his prompt, Fleur created cover in the remaining directions to block direct spell fire, and Ilona and Sabrine, who turned out to have good skills also helped her.

The rest of the Veelas continued to launch fireballs into the forest that had become a fiery trap and Miss Fontain and Apolline quickly finished off the Death Eaters that managed to emerge.

Meanwhile, Lucas was observing the whole battlefield, collecting all the data.

This was his first combat experience.

So, he wanted to analyze how the strategies he had made in his mind using all of his theoretical knowledge were actually working, what changes and improvements could be made, and what flaws he had missed.

Seeing everything going mostly according to his plans, he felt a bit smug for a moment, similar to the Home Alone kid when he trapped the thieves.

But his relaxed attitude could not last long when the second group of Death Eaters finally arrived.

This new group was much smaller, around twenty people, but it clearly consisted of much better dressed wizards, meaning many of them were actual death eaters.

Once again, Lucas had Apolline broadcast their first attack to Ministry leaders before turning it off again.

After firing a few spells, a few of the masked men barked orders and the rest immediately took action.

They took cover behind the tents or created their own covers and started firing blasting spells at the boulders, breaking them while also hurting some of the veela with the debris.

Seeing the situation, Lucas's spirits dampened.

'They really think too highly of veelas.'

This was a highly skilled and cohesive group of individuals, their every action experience and efficiency. Plus, the power in their spells was nothing to scoff at.

His first impression was: The death eaters had actually sent their elites to deal with a group of unskilled veela.

But then he realised it.

'These motherfuckers are actually gooners!'

It was obvious.

These were the Death Eaters with enough influence and lust to get themselves assigned to this easy job when there were clearly more important areas where they were needed more.

Low danger and veela captives. Isn't that the Deatheater-ican Dream?

Lucas's traps were very quickly dismantled. Furthermore, he hadn't set up flammables near the tent area for obvious reasons.

Thus, the situation quickly descended into a fierce exchange of fireballs and spells. And despite their lower numbers, the Death Eaters were actually at an advantage.

Lucas also took cover, finally firing his first shot of the day, targeting the main threat, the main Death Eater leader who was rapid firing powerful spells with deadly precision while also directing the overall flow of the battle.

Lucas fired a few spells which the death eater had to avoid by taking cover.

While his spell power might not be the strongest, Lucas had definitely mastered accuracy.

The Death Eater soon recognised Lucas as a threat, firing at him continuously, forcing him to hide behind the boulder that was about to be broken through.

He peeked again in order to attack but once again had to duck as a spell beam whizzed past him.

He was completely unmatched and outclassed, akin to a student fighting a teacher.

But there is something very beautiful about wizard duels.

Lucas peeked again, and another spell arrived.

But this time, he did not dodge, taking the spell head on.

"Bombarda." At the same time, his own exploding curse was fired with pin point accuracy, hitting the death eater in the forehead. It passed through before the surprised death eater leader erected a shield.

The beautiful thing about wizard duels: Just one spell can decide the outcome.

Right before his head exploded, there was shock in his eyes. Because his bone melting curse had hit Lucas in the face with no effect.

And since no one other than him knew that, the secret would die with him.

The fault of this experienced death eater was that he was too competent. Since Lucas only has a few casters on his side, the death eater can confidently stick his head out, knowing exactly when a spell would arrive.

"Repairo." Feeling no guilt whatsoever and his mind completely calm, Lucas repaired the big boulder he was hiding and waited, observing the rhythm of another dangerous death eater.

During the past month, he had dramatically increased his spell repertoire. And of course, his special ability was still there.

The tip of his wand started to glow with the same color as the previously absorbed spell.

Then suddenly, he fired it at an empty space. Just before the spell was wasted, the death eater he was targeting peeked from his cover, catching the poor guy in the eye.

An advantage of absorbing spells: Instant, chantless, wandless casting. If cast with a wand, he can even significantly amplify the spell's power.

Using it, he had managed to catch the Death Eater by surprise.

But in the process, two spells had come his way, for which he had taken his chances since the spell light wasn't green.

Unfortunately, he ended up drawing a Cruciatus.

An excruciating pain shot through him, making him almost drop his wand. But since the spell's connection with the death eater was already broken, the pain quickly started to fade as his body absorbed the magic.

In the beginning, all spells used to have some effect on him. But his resistance and magic conversion rate has increased dramatically since then, to the point that now he can survive a Crutiatus.

Lucas was sure that the next time, the spell would do even less damage.

Having familiarized himself with the game, Lucas began to methodically take down Death Eaters one after another.

But Apolline was different.

Seeing her clanswomen suffering, she stopped holding back, launching high level flame magic.

Fleur was even wider, her form having already changed.

This added with Miss Fontain and other veelas who would cast magic, and they were actually about to win the fight soon, with only 5 death eaters huddled together behind one transfigured wall, working together.

But at this moment, explosions started to sound in the distance. Lucas, of course, wouldn't have cared. But then he saw the location.

'...No...'

The biggest tent into the whole sea of tents, which he had seen in the Dumbledore area when dropping off Adeline, was currently on fire, visible even from this distance.

And a large mass of dark magic was flowing out of the area, accompanied by continuous sounds of a large-scale battle.

'No… nonono! Not again!'

"I'm sorry... we couldn't save her." The scenes of the Hospital flashed in his mind.

A new power started to rise within him.
