Chapter 48 - Milotic Breaks Through

If Oliver wanted to prove the existence of the Fairy type, then Sylveon would be the most undeniable piece of evidence.

Oliver asked, "What were you originally planning to evolve Eevee into?"

Tian Xin tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I already have a Water-type Pokémon, so I was planning to evolve it into Jolteon. Good looks, strong battle power—it's a solid choice."

After a brief pause, Oliver said, "I've made some progress in Pokémon evolution research recently. My newest topic involves a brand-new evolution for Eevee. If you're interested, you could try it."

Tian Xin froze. "A new Eevee evolution? Is this just a theory, or are you confident it can really work?"

"I call it Sylveon," Oliver said calmly. "And I can guarantee—one hundred percent—that it will succeed."

Tian Xin thought for a moment. "Then I should ask Eevee what it thinks."

"Eevee," she called.

The Eevee that had been playing nearby immediately dashed over and leapt into her arms, letting out a soft cry.

"Eevui!"

"Eevee, do you want to evolve into Sylveon?"

Eevee tilted its head in confusion.

"Eevui?"

Sylveon? What was that?

Oliver explained from the side, "It's a completely new evolution. If you succeed, you'll become the world's very first Sylveon. And this form has an absolute advantage against Dragon-type Pokémon."

"An absolute counter to Dragon-types?" Tian Xin's eyes widened. "Then is this new evolution Ice-type?"

Oliver smiled mysteriously. "No. I'll keep it secret for now. If your Eevee chooses this path and evolves successfully, I'll tell you everything. So—what's your choice, Eevee?"

The last sentence was directed straight at Eevee.

Being the world's first, a brand-new evolution, and strong enough to counter Dragon-types—those titles alone were irresistible. Eevee nodded vigorously.

"Eevui!"

Seeing this, Tian Xin made up her mind. "Alright then. Oliver, I'll leave Eevee entirely in your hands. You have to succeed. So… what do we need to do for it to evolve?"

"Nothing at all."

"…Nothing?"

"That's right. I can tell that your bond with Eevee is already very strong. Just keep things as they are. With Eevee's current strength, it won't be long before it evolves on its own."

Tian Xin was stunned. Evolution without doing anything?

"Is that really possible?"

Oliver explained, "It's similar to how Umbreon and Espeon evolve—using emotional energy as the trigger. There are some differences, but the core idea is the same."

"Well… if that's the case, there's no downside," Tian Xin said after thinking it over.

She had originally worried Oliver might ask for something risky that could hurt Eevee, but now there was nothing to fear.

"Oh, right," Oliver added. "When Eevee evolves, make sure you record it and send me the video. It'll be very helpful for my upcoming paper."

"No problem," Tian Xin said with a smile. "I'm with Eevee 24/7 anyway. I'll definitely send it to you."

The meal ended in a cheerful atmosphere.

Oliver was pleased—he had found yet another solid piece of evidence to prove the Fairy type's existence.

Tian Xin, meanwhile, was thrilled that her Eevee was about to evolve into a completely new form.

When it was time to part ways, Blastoise was still reluctant to leave Milotic's side. Milotic, on the other hand, shot Oliver an annoyed glance, clearly blaming him for not leaving earlier.

Kirlia happily waved goodbye to Vanillish and Eevee. In just one meal's time, the three Pokémon had already become good friends.

At this point, all of Oliver's goals for his trip to Chang'an City had been perfectly achieved. His leave from school was also about to end, so he decided to head back the next day.

That night, Oliver split the Enigma Berry given by Torterra into two portions and used them to make two top-tier energy cubes—one Water-type, one Psychic-type.

He had originally planned to make three, but Celebi insisted it didn't need such items. After living for countless years, it already had extremely refined control over energy.

After eating the energy cubes, both Pokémon immediately felt a dramatic improvement in how clearly they could sense the energy particles in the air, and their control over their own power became far smoother.

For Milotic, it was like someone with severe nearsightedness suddenly putting on glasses—the world became several times clearer than before.

Suddenly, a powerful aura surged out from Milotic's body.

With the help of the Enigma Berry's special properties, Milotic finally broke through to the Veteran tier!

Pokémon: Milotic

Level: Veteran – Low Rank

Potential: Champion Tier

Moves: Surf, Rain Dance, …

Milotic had been stuck at Advanced High Rank for a long time. Countless battles and intense training had piled up over time, and now, with the final push from the Enigma Berry, everything was released at once.

Excited, Milotic immediately unleashed Surf right inside the hotel room.

The power was enormous.

The destruction was equally impressive.

The entire room looked like it had been washed over by a flood—completely uninhabitable.

With no other choice, Oliver called the hotel staff, paid for the damages, and switched to a different room to rest.

Back in Rong City, inside a dimly lit room.

A middle-aged man dressed in black was on the phone. From his submissive posture and flattering tone, it was obvious he held the person on the other end in great respect.

"Have there been any updates on our two members?" a voice asked.

"Not yet," the man replied. "But I found out that Oliver hasn't gone to school for quite some time. And the day he left campus happens to be the same day our two members disappeared."

"The same day?" The voice chuckled softly. "Interesting. Are you telling me two Advanced-level trainers could fall to a mere high school student?"

"That… I don't know," the man said cautiously. "But afterward, I checked his home. No one lives there anymore—and there were signs of a fight in the hallway."

"So the Alliance sent someone to protect him?" the voice said lazily. "I don't believe an eighteen-year-old researcher could deal with two Advanced trainers on his own."

"I'm not sure about that."

"Keep digging. Once you find him, give him one last chance. If he still doesn't know how to seize it—then eliminate him."

"Yes!"
