Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Spring in the Land of Waves

Kaldor had clearly discovered something entirely new.

He wasn't following the original story, nor was he building military strength—he was playing with democracy.

Naruto let out a sigh of relief. He was now about 80% sure this person had never read the original Naruto series.

It wasn't that he didn't respect the young general, but democracy simply didn't work here. True kingship comes from controlling military power.

"This guy is probably Korean… I didn't expect a foreigner could come here," Naruto thought.

Wow, that's a lot of information.

"Can I get some food?" Since he was already here, Naruto decided to stick to his original plan and ask Scar for some provisions.

"Of course," Scar said, about to reach into the bag.

"Wait," Naruto interrupted, "my family of seven wants to support Mr. Kaldor. Can we get seven portions?"

The trio, plus Kakashi and Tazuna's family of three, were all outstanding citizens supporting Mr. Kaldor.

"Uh… well…" Scar froze. Bugs? Really?

Naruto patiently explained: "Think about it—my family will go out to support you, so you'll have to send resources their way anyway. Why not just give it all at once? I'll handle the rest with my family later."

Scar scratched his head. He felt like Naruto was setting a trap, but couldn't put a finger on why.

After Naruto's repeated persuasion, Scar handed over all seven portions. Naruto was very satisfied.

What is "mouth-to-mouth"? (tactical fade out.jpg)

He stuffed all the food into a bag—it contained rice, vegetables, fruits, and grains, a rich assortment.

"Is Kaldor really doing a good thing?" Naruto muttered, squeezing through the crowd and starting back.

Because supporting Kaldor meant receiving food, more and more people gathered around the mercenaries.

They knew of Kaldor's cruelty, but they didn't care. If there wasn't enough food, they would starve.

The hungry fishermen began shoving each other, their emaciated bodies colliding.

The mix of sweat and fishy smell rose, and the narrow street turned into a steaming, suffocating corridor.

In the background, the mercenaries shouted, "Mercenaries, attention! Salute our leader Kaldor! Loyalty! Honesty!"

Naruto looked back and felt an unprecedented sense of absurdity.

A forest on the border of the Land of Waves.

After the lesson, Kakashi had the trio practice climbing trees here.

"Though it seems childish, we still can't let our guard down," Sakura listened seriously to Naruto's reasoning—but it had little effect.

Sakura: "Maybe he's faking it. Like the top-tier experts in the Law Ring of Sol City. His attack power isn't high, but even a light touch can instantly move behind you and deliver a fatal blow."

After explaining the situation to a few others, they decided to move house.

Notably, Sakura successfully persuaded Inari—her eloquence seemed to rival Naruto's.

"What are you talking about?" Sasuke, who had just finished climbing, walked over.

He suspected Mingying was isolating him because she never included him when opening the small windows.

"Nothing, Sakura was just sharing her tree-climbing experience," Naruto said casually.

As in the original story, Sakura performed best. She even surpassed her original counterpart, quickly reaching the top.

"Really…" Sasuke's voice suddenly wavered. "Can you… tell me?"

Hearing this, Naruto decided to tease Sasuke. "Sakura said that if you become her boyfriend, she'll tell you."

"What?" Sasuke's eyes widened. Why could Naruto freely hear it while he had to sacrifice himself?!

Sakura rolled her eyes at Naruto. "Don't listen to him. I'll teach you the trick of climbing trees."

"You're pretending. You never said that before," Naruto lied calmly, without hesitation. "Honestly, Sasuke, you're still handsome. Aren't you even a little impressed?"

"My hometown has plenty of handsome guys," Sakura replied lightly.

"Aren't we all sisters?"

"…There are also many handsome straight men. Yeah, a lot pursued me before."

So, you look down on people who only talk theory?

Sakura glanced at Naruto. "Since Sasuke killed Xiangling, he's been crazy. I wouldn't dare like someone like that."

Sasuke, full of questions: "Who's Xiangling? When did I kill anyone?"

What puzzled him most was why Mingying always teased him openly—didn't she know how to talk behind his back?

Please respect the person involved!

Sakura turned to Sasuke: "But if you keep going like this, won't someone eventually get hurt?"

Sasuke was stunned.

Sakura continued: "Your dream is revenge, right? Even if you hurt no one along the way, in the end, won't you still kill?"

Sasuke grew angry. "He must be killed. If he isn't, the Uchiha clan will never be at peace!"

"Taking the path of revenge inevitably hurts innocents," Naruto interjected. "The person you want to kill wiped out your clan, right? He's strong. If you want to kill him, you'll have to practice killing repeatedly. Won't that inevitably hurt innocents?"

Sasuke was stunned again.

"What will you do with your life after killing him? Your life will lose all meaning," Sakura added.

Sasuke: "I want to revive my clan!"

Sakura: "Then don't think about killing. Reviving your clan requires political skill and connections. And you absolutely can't bypass Konoha. Instead of thinking about killing, think about how to gain the support of the Hokage."

Sakura stared at Sasuke: "Tell me, would the Hokage publicly support your killing?"

Sasuke fell silent.

He had never considered these questions. More accurately, his life had always been like that of a puppet.

First controlled by Itachi, then by Obito, and finally he devised a plan himself—but was immediately stopped by Six-Path Naruto.

In the end, he wandered the world alone under the guise of protecting the village to atone for his sins.

It was truly sad.

Seeing the atmosphere grow tense, Naruto quickly patted Sasuke's shoulder. "It's okay, Sasuke. Whatever you want to do, we'll support you."

Then he looked at Sakura and winked: "Right, sis?"

Sakura was silent for a moment, then nodded.

She didn't mention what to do if Sasuke were possessed by someone else in the future.

Sakura again explained the key points of tree climbing, and Naruto and Sasuke continued practicing.

She hurried to the bridge, posted a work-stoppage notice, and greeted the nearby workers.

That night, in a small seaside cabin.

"Thanks to the food Naruto brought, we can finally have a proper meal tonight."

The lady had prepared a hearty dinner. The trio ate eagerly, Kakashi and the lady ate slowly, while Tazuna and Inari remained gloomy.

"Maybe there'll be more tomorrow," Naruto mumbled, chewing on a chunk of fatty ham.

"Will they distribute food again tomorrow?" Sasuke asked.

"They won't just do one day of advertising. Sasuke, go there tomorrow and tell them your entire family of nine trusts Mr. Kaldor. Cry as much as you can, do whatever it takes to get more."

Sakura was dumbfounded. "You're going to pick all the bamboo shoots in the Land of Waves…"

"Oh, and there's one more thing I want to say." Naruto turned his gaze to Sakura.
