Chapter 147 - [147] Shadowed Pursuit – Secrets from Argus

"Argus, do you know who the heir to Slytherin is?"

Draco deliberately lowered his voice and whispered in Argus's ear.

This mysterious demeanor only drew the attention of Harry and Ron.

"Don't ask so many questions. Let me tell you, if you still struggle with exams like you did last year, don't blame me for giving you extra practice during the holidays."

Argus said those things just to distract Harry and Ron.

It wasn't really about revealing everything.

Under Draco's pleading gaze, he got up and headed to the classroom.

Meanwhile, Harry and Ron were having a heated discussion about what Argus had said.

"Those two evil Slytherins have been acting suspiciously, I wonder what they're talking about."

There must have been some unspeakable secret involved!

Ron took a big bite of the chicken leg, as if it were made from Argus's flesh.

His eyes were filled with resentment.

"Is it about the Slytherin successor?"

"Argus and Draco are both from pure-blood families; there might be some inside information we don't know about."

Harry was quite happy about this.

If the Slytherin heir could indeed be found, his identity would become clear.

No longer would Harry be treated like a dark wizard all the time.

Upon hearing this, Ron immediately lost his composure!

We're both purebloods, so why did those guys know so much?

Ron would have to act like a complete idiot, constantly being suspicious!

Since Arthur Weasley had been removed from his position as chief, the Weasley family's finances had plummeted.

Especially with Ginny going to school, a large number of Galleons had been needed.

This had made things even worse for families that were already struggling financially.

This made Ron even more envious of Draco, Argus, and others' wealthy lifestyle.

He suddenly stood up, slammed his hand on the table, and instantly drew the attention of all the Gryffindors.

Harry was caught off guard by Ron's actions and yanked him back by his robes.

What are you doing!

Ron stared intently at Argus's departing figure: "You're right, there must be something going on!"

We cannot let them succeed!

Harry was dumbfounded.

No, buddy, he had meant they knew the inside story, not that they had the inside story!

Your comprehension skills are seriously lacking!

"Wait a minute, Ron. The Aurors and the professors are handling this. We don't need to do it…"

"Have you forgotten about Hagrid?!"

Ron lowered his voice and said, "You're the prime suspect now. Who knows if the Ministry of Magic will find someone to be a scapegoat like they did back then!"

"Think about it, given the connection between those two Slytherin families and the Ministry of Magic, even if it's found out it was them, would the Ministry of Magic arrest them?"

"But... but if it really was Argus and his group, why would they say it in front of so many people?"

"Who knows what that evil Slytherin is thinking! We didn't see him go to the third floor last year, and look what happened!"

Ron's mind was filled with the image of himself exposing Argus and Draco's true colors, sending them to Azkaban, and standing in front of them, swaggering around.

All he wanted to do was find out the truth as soon as possible.

But he also knew that finding out the truth on his own would be as difficult as climbing to the sky.

Only by involving Harry, and with the help of Harry's Invisibility Cloak, was there even a sliver of a chance.

Harry hesitated.

On the one hand, he didn't want to believe that Argus and Draco would do such a thing; on the other hand, he was worried that he would really become a scapegoat like Hagrid.

The thought of his future, like Hagrid's, guarding the Forbidden Forest alone, sent chills down his spine.

What are you planning to do?

Upon hearing Harry's agreement, Ron immediately became excited.

"With so many people in the castle hall, they certainly won't say anything useful."

"We'll use your Invisibility Cloak to sneak into the Slytherin common room with them."

"We're sure to find a useful clue!"

"But we only have one Invisibility Cloak," Harry said, frowning.

"Don't worry about that. The evil Malfoy has already sided with that evil Slytherin. We just need to keep an eye on the evil Slytherin."

Ron patted his chest, as if he were about to arrest Argus.

Harry was about to say something when Ron interrupted him.

"Harry, only by capturing the Slytherin heir ourselves can we truly clear your name."

"Do you really want to end up like Hagrid, wrongly accused for decades?"

This statement solidified Harry's resolve to investigate.

The two exchanged a glance, put down their food, and chased after Argus.

...

Today, the second-year Slytherin and Gryffindor students had a lot of classes, a total of three long classes.

It wasn't until the afternoon that it was finally finished.

Argus clearly felt two pairs of eyes following him.

Even without thinking too hard, he could guess what those two were up to.

To avoid losing track of the two, he made a point of mentioning to others that he was going to the library next.

After spending about half an hour in the library, the familiar feeling of being spied on returned.

Argus resisted the urge to use his ability to quickly reveal himself, pretending to know nothing and continuing to read.

He didn't leave the library until it was almost time for dinner.

"Good evening, Mr. Filch!"

Just as Argus was about to go to the hall for dinner, he ran into Filch.

Not far away, Alan Mitchell was patrolling with a group of Aurors. Hearing the noise, he thought Argus was in trouble and rushed over to help him out.

"Good evening, Mr. Filch." Argus bowed politely.

He turned to Allen and the others: "Mr. Mitchell, gentlemen of the Auror office, good evening."

"Is there something you need from me?"

The Aurors had been stationed at Hogwarts for some time, so it was normal for Argus to know Alan Mitchell's name.

Being too unfamiliar with someone could make you seem unnatural and easily arouse suspicion.

Just as Alan Mitchell was about to respond, he suddenly noticed something unusual behind Argus.

He raised an eyebrow and quietly reached for his wand with his right hand.

But Argus stopped him with a look!

He understood.

After asking a few questions in a perfunctory manner, he led the Aurors to continue patrolling other areas.

Ron, watching from behind, became even more excited.

Shaking Harry's arm: "See that, Harry!"

"That evil Slytherin is definitely suspicious, otherwise why would the Aurors come to question him!"

"I think what he said in the lobby was just a case of the thief crying 'stop thief!' He was deliberately trying to make others think he was confident!"

A hint of doubt also crept into Harry's eyes.

He nodded.

"Look, he's leaving! Let's hurry and follow him!"

Ron noticed that Argus was about to leave, so he quickly grabbed Harry and chased after him.

To give Harry and Ron time to escape the common room, Argus ate only a few bites before leaving the hall.

The three of them traveled from the Hogwarts Castle Great Hall to the Slytherin Common Room.

After entering the lounge, Argus did not rush back to his dormitory.

The numerous spells set up in his dormitory were far beyond what Harry and his friend could handle.

If you're not careful, whether you can get out of here alive is a question!

Fortunately, no one was in the Slytherin common room at that moment.

This left ample space for Argus.

He took out several books and newspapers from his bag.

This included a report written by Rita about the Hogwarts petrification incident.

He pretended to glance at it by chance and chuckled softly.

"Hagrid's innocence has been served, but what about the little witch who died back then!"

"I can only stay alone in the first-floor washroom."

"And who has ever felt sorry for her..."
