Chapter 20 - When the Wolf Met the Lioness

At that very moment, on the 50th floor, Zain was watching this entire scene through the CCTV cameras.

His anger had reached the seventh sky. Seeing his sister so close to Anya, trying to get near her, ignited a storm inside him.

The elevator descended.

The doors opened slowly.

Zain stepped out.

His face was hard—stone-cold.

The moment his eyes fell on Fengning, anger and shock surfaced together in his gaze.

Zain (in a sharp, commanding voice):

"Fengning! What are you doing here? And what is all this drama?"

The entire office fell silent.

Anya and Jing looked at each other, stunned.

"Fengning?"

The boss was calling her by name?

Fengning (cheerfully):

"Brother! Surprise!"

She ran and hugged Zain tightly.

"I missed you so much! You left me behind and came here to work alone, so I thought I'd come myself."

Anya and Jing's minds exploded.

"Brother?!"

Both blurted out together.

Now Anya understood—

This spoiled girl was none other than her rude boss's real younger sister!

Zain, who was stone-hearted to the entire world, loved his little sister Fengning more than his own life.

In Fengning, he saw the reflection of his deceased sister Jia, and that was why he fulfilled her every wish.

Zain gently pulled Fengning away, but anger still burned in his eyes—not because she had come, but because everyone was staring.

Zain (shooting lightning-sharp looks at everyone):

"Miss Anya! Jing! Don't you people have any work to do? Has peeking into someone's personal life now become part of office duty?"

Jing and Anya started trembling.

Jing suddenly remembered—she had just called the boss's sister fake and told her to stay away.

Zain (grabbing Fengning's hand):

"Fengning, come to my cabin. Now."

While leaving, Fengning turned back toward Anya, winked, and mouthed silently—

"See you soon, bestie!"

The cabin door slammed shut.

Jing (with a near-crying face):

"Anya… we're doomed. I scolded the boss's sister! Tomorrow my resignation is confirmed!"

Anya (muttering to herself):

"She's his sister? And she moved into the house in front of mine?

Lu Wei… what is all this? My life has turned into a drama."

Evening Time

It was evening.

Anya and Fengning were sitting on the sofa inside the house, watching a Korean drama, eating popcorn, and laughing loudly.

Fengning forgot all her riches and blended in completely with Anya.

Anya and her friend remembered how Fengning had slipped into the mud while coming home earlier. Anya had laughed at her, but then Fengning remembered her brother—the boss—and Anya helped her. That was how they became friends.

Fengning remembered Jing's words—

Friendship is not made by money or expensive gifts, but by having a true and loyal heart.

While watching the drama, they praised the male lead and laughed at the funny scenes.

Just then, Lu Wei returned from work.

The moment he saw the red car parked outside the neighboring house, and then found Fengning laughing inside his home, his anger shot to the seventh sky.

Lu Wei:

"You?! What are you doing inside my house? And you've shifted here? I blocked you—did you not understand what that meant?"

Fengning (throwing popcorn):

"Oh, Mr. Angry Young Man! You blocked me on the phone, not in the neighborhood. Now I'm staying right here, in front of your eyes. Do whatever you can!"

A fierce argument had just begun when suddenly a black Mercedes stopped outside.

Zain stepped out with his full authority.

When he found out that Fengning had actually taken a house next to Anya, his face burned with rage.

He walked straight inside and, the moment he saw Lu Wei, unleashed his hatred.

Zain:

"How dare you trap my sister in your web? Men like you chase rich girls the moment you see money!"

Lu Wei:

"Watch your tongue, Mr. Zain! Your sister came here on her own."

Seeing her brother being insulted, Anya jumped in between.

She stood extremely close to Zain, locking eyes with him.

Anya:

"Enough! Why do you always blame my brother? What are you yourself? A stone-hearted man who has no respect for anyone's emotions!"

Zain stood in a black tailored long suit.

His tall build and harsh aura made the room feel heavy.

In front of him stood Anya—

Her height barely reached his chest, yet her eyes held fire, not fear.

Zain took one step forward.

Instead of backing away, Anya lifted her chin.

Only a few inches separated them now.

Zain (in a cold, poisonous voice):

"You're going to teach me what I should do?"

He bent slightly so his eyes could directly sink into hers.

That same old cruelty was in his eyes—

But somewhere, something else too… something he didn't want to admit.

Anya placed her finger on Zain's chest—

Right where his heart beat.

Anya (not trembling, but roaring):

"What do you think? You'll say whatever you want and people will stay silent?

You're stone-hearted, Mr. Zain. There's no heart in your chest—only arrogance!"

Silence fell over the room.

Zain's jaw muscles tightened.

He jerked her finger away.

Zain:

"In the office you walk around like a kitten… and here you're acting like a lioness?"

Anya laughed and looked straight into his eyes—

That laugh made her even more dangerous.

Anya:

"And you?

You think of yourself as a wolf everywhere.

But even wolves know when to step back—

You don't!"

She sliced the air with her hand, as if every word was cutting through Zain's ego.

Zain clenched his fists.

For a moment, he leaned in so close that Anya could feel the warmth of his breath.

Zain (in a slow, dangerous voice):

"You talk too much, Anya."

Anya (not stepping back):

"And you don't know how to listen, Zain!"

Behind them, Fengning and Huan Jing looked at each other.

Fengning (softly):

"Are they fighting… or about to confess?"

Lu Wei placed his hands on Fengning's shoulders.

Lu Wei:

"They look like a ten-year-old married couple."

Then he saw Fengning's face and pulled his hand back in anger.

At that moment, all warmth vanished from Zain's face.

The hatred of the past returned to his eyes—

Lu Kang… revenge… death…

He suddenly stepped back.

Suddenly, Zain remembered that Anya was the niece of Lu Kang, whom he believed had murdered his mother.

His face hardened instantly.

Memories filled him with hatred again.

He turned and grabbed Fengning's hand to leave, but Fengning stood her ground.

She folded her hands in front of Zain, making a pleading face.

Fengning:

"Please, brother… just three months! If I cause any trouble, I'll go back to Beijing myself. Can't you do this much for your darling sister?"

Zain could never refuse her.

He took a long breath and looked at Anya with hatred.

Zain:

"Fine. Only three months. But if I find out that these people (Anya and Lu Wei) trouble you even a little, I'll buy this entire neighborhood and demolish it."

Anya scrunched her nose.

"Big talker! Go away, you stone-hearted man!"

Zain walked toward his car without saying anything, but the echo of that funny and filmy fight with Anya stayed with him.

Zain's Penthouse

Zain drove his car angrily and entered his luxurious penthouse, his face burning like hot embers.

Inside him, hatred and attraction were at war.

Zain (shouting in rage):

"No! I cannot be drawn toward her!"

He picked up an expensive crystal vase from the table and hurled it at the wall.

Glass shattered everywhere.

The servants trembled in fear and hid in corners.

Just then, Qian arrived.

Qian:

"Zain! Calm down. Hurting yourself won't achieve anything."

Zain (grabbing Qian's shirt):

"Her eyes, Qian! That fearless smile of hers… it's pulling me toward her. But I can't forget she's Lu Kang's niece! If I want to drag Lu Kang out of his hole, I must use Anya as a pawn. She's the life of his family, right? Then I'll slowly destroy that very 'life'. From tomorrow, Anya's worst nightmare begins!"

Qian's heart sank.

He saw madness in Zain's eyes—something he had never seen before.

Zain took his sleeping pills with trembling hands and collapsed onto the bed, trying to forget those innocent eyes that gave him no peace.

Scene 2: Fengning and Lu Wei Turned into "Roosters"

On the other side, the atmosphere in Anya's house was completely different.

Anya sat on the sofa holding a rolling pin, while Fengning and Lu Wei stood in front of her holding their ears like school kids.

Anya (staring):

"So… since when has this 'block-unblock' game been going on between you two? And Fengning, were you just pretending to be my friend for my brother?"

Fengning (holding ears innocently):

"Anya, darling! Look, yes, that was the intention at first, but now I swear… I genuinely want to be your friend. I swear on my brother Zain!"

Anya (laughing):

"Brother's swear? Good thing you swore on your brother—I don't care whether he lives or dies!"

"But if you had sworn on Lu Wei—"

Lu Wei:

"Hey! Sister, you're so cute, you love me so much!"

He teased Fengning by sticking his tongue out.

Fengning got angry.

Fengning:

"I'll kill you!"

Anya:

"Silence! Stay as 'roosters' for now."

Fengning suddenly burst into laughter and teased Anya.

Fengning:

"By the way, Anya, accept it or not, but today you and my brother were fighting exactly like a married K-drama couple! That tall Zain bhai and you—your height doesn't even reach his chest, yet you were staring straight into his eyes and calling him a 'wolf'! I couldn't stop laughing."

Anya's face turned tomato red.

Anya:

"Fengning! Shut up! He's a stone-hearted man and I hate him!"

Fengning thought to herself—

'The line between hate and love is very thin, Anya. Let's see what brother does with you tomorrow.'
