Chapter 9 - The Point

Another surprising thing was the fact that in some circumstances humans don't accept refusal. Despite their height and lack of power, those little creatures were surprisingly stubborn. And even more convincing.

Rea sighs in irritation. No, it wasn't persuasion. Persuasion requires arguments, consistency and logic. What those little humans did seems more like an assault with weapons.

Effective one indeed, but it's quite difficult to admire such a method while being the one who is affected by it.

"Supereffective, huh…" Rea snorted under her breath.

Few paramedics look at her. Some of them need to hold something to keep themselves in one place inside the moving ambulance. But soon they start ignoring the girl. Most likely assuming she's high. Which wasn't far from the truth.

As she arrived near the ambulance before, Rea's state was already miserable, to say the least. Overtired, burnt, battered and most likely with many more injuries which she wasn't aware of.

And while for her the pain was only a small hindrance, the paramedic she met took it quite seriously. Not only did he immediately help, but also informed the rest of the paramedics which were around the place.

Thankfully the man did it discreetly. And without asking any questions, the rest of the medical team loaded the girl into the ambulance, gave her some medicine and right now they were driving to the nearest hospital.

Despite all the calming words, that she is safe, could fall asleep and some other, Rea felt far from safe. Giovanni saw her while she used her mental powers.

Many things could be said about Team Rocket's boss but not that he was a fool. Connecting the dots wasn't a huge challenge. Even if at that moment he had no idea that Mewtwo managed to escape, it's just a matter of hours till he learns what happened.

Of course it'd be bold to assume that the creature from Celadon City's lab and the mysterious girl called Rea are the exact same person. But it definitely wouldn't be the first time Giovanni acted bold. And definitely not the first time when he revealed to be right about that.

Not to mention right now she is high. Even humans in this state do ridiculous things, and Pokémon…? Well, it could be only worse.

So Rea just lies down on the stretcher, while some paramedics try their best to calm her down. But eventually they succeed. Not because of their persuasion skills. Rather due to the fact that Rea was tired.

Next time she opens her eyes, Rea sees the white ceiling. Which wasn't different from the one in the ambulance yet the lack of hum was alarming.

And so Rea starts to look around. Despite the fact her body and mind were still weak, she noticed the difference. The electrodes linked to her body. The screen which displays her pulse. It was clear as day she's in the hospital.

It requires some effort to sit down. Her head felt dizzy for a moment, but that sensation soon faded away. Perhaps the medicine still works. After a few deep breaths Rea has heard something other than her desperate attempts to fill her body with oxygen. The conversation of two people talking outside the door"

"...She doesn't even wake up." One of the hushed voices could be heard.

"That girl might be an important witness." The other person growled in a more harsh tone, despite the voice still being hushed. "Maybe she's one of the people who blew up the hideout."

One of those..? Rea corrected her position restraining the urge to use levitation. That's what they think? That there were some riots inside of Team Rocket? Or maybe it was blown by someone from the outside.

"She is still tired, perhaps even won't be able…"

"Do you think I care!?" The other voice shouted this time.

If those two people's voices were hushed due to suspicion that Rea was still sleeping, right now those suspicions fadeed away.

She sighs, expecting that sooner or later owners of the mysterious voices will enter the hospital room. And so it happened. The door opens with a soft grind revealing two women figures.

The first one with an apologetic smile on her face was surely one of the workers in the hospital. She wears a nurse uniform, but what makes it stand out from usual uniforms was the fact that this one was pink. The only white element on it was the cap, which stayed on the even more pink hair, put into two braids.

The other one seems like the opposite of the first woman. Her teal colored hair weren't combed in any specific way, just so they wouldn't cover the view. However some unruly curls get out, but even they seem to be scared about angering its owner and don't get in front of her eyes.

Her lips were clenched, painted a little in red. Rea saw that before many times, but she doesn't understand the meaning. Perhaps it was some kind of war paint. Well, for sure that woman in a police uniform seems like somebody who could be at war.

The police takes out a paper that Rea presume it's her identity card. Unfortunately Rea's head still feels dizzy. It's hard to say if it's due to the usage of medicine or the fact that she woke up not so long ago.

"O-Officer I don't think it's…" The pink haired one starts shyly, but the police officer immediately interrupts her.

"Officer Jenny from Fuschia City." She introduces herself ignoring the pink one's slight gestures telling her to stop. "I'm here to ask some questions."

Rea's eyes widened. Fuschia City..? Holy Mew, that's what she heard when she traveled inside the truck. At that time she had no idea what that meant.

But maybe… maybe the driver doesn't state what city they're from or what they go though. Maybe at that moment he talked about his destination…

"Jenny, you should stop it right now." The pink haired woman whispered. "This girl woke up just now. She might not even be able to form a popper word…

"When you move your head up and down, it means 'yes'." Officer Jenny interrupts the monologue. "And when left and right, it means 'no'."

The pink one lets out a loud sigh. She leans on the nearest chair.

"This woman is unreformable." The pink one mutters to herself.

Yet her complaining was suddenly stopped by some soft flop flops. With a grind of the door another figure appears in the room. To Rea's surprise it wasn't a human. Despite the white cap on its head the newcomer surely was Pokémon.

"Chansey...?" The Pokémon's voice clearly points out the surprise, but its expression stays unmoved as the creature still holds the metal tray with some kind of human food.

To that view the pink haired woman stood up and a smile could be seen on her face. Almost like only the view of this Pokémon was some kind of consolation.

"Chansey!" She shouts in happiness and points at Officer Jenny. "Please, help me with stopping her!"

Rea's hands press tightly on the white blanket. Holy Mew, that pink furball will hit the other woman…

Yet the Pokémon put the tray aside. It just goes towards Officer Jenny. The officer took a step aside, almost as if she were scared but the creature started to… reproach her. With a squeaky voice and multiple gestures. Rea almost let out a sigh of relief.

"Yeah, surely…" This time Officer Jenny was the one who couldn't speak up.

It was unbelievable. The Pokémon didn't attack. Nor use words that could be understood by humans. Yet it seems both Officer Jenny and the pink woman respect it as it was equal to them.

"One question!" Officer Jenny eventually shouted. "Let me ask one question!"

The Pokémon turned its head as if those words were offending. Yet with something like a nod it approves Officer Jenny's request.

With a resignation written on her face, Officer Jenny started to look inside her pocket. Finally she took out a small map of the Kanto Region.

"Which city are you from?" She asks and continues. "We could find some of your relatives…"

Rea moves her head left and right. No, there's no one to be found. At least no one she wishes to get in touch with.

Officer Jenny regards her with a curious look. Perhaps the woman presumes Rea wouldn't like to speak at all…

"Please, we'd like to help." The pink haired one finally speaks up in defence of Officer Jenny.

Rea sighs. She unwillingly starts to rub her fingers of her left hand against each other. The woman takes the gesture as a sign that Rea wants to tell her something. Officer Jenny immediately takes out from her pocket a pen and gives it to Rea.

At first she hesitates but grabs the pen. Her hands, still not used to holding something, shake. Yet she manages to write an 'R' letter. Maybe it wasn't easy to see, after all it was written on the map. But perhaps it lets the woman understand, she is from Team Rocket and has no relatives.

"So that's where their hideout is?" Officer Jenny tilted her head.

What? Rea blinks clearly surprised. She didn't point to any place. And definitely not to Team Rocket's hideout.

Yet as she looked again at the map, the 'R' letter was written exactly on the mark of Celadon City…
