The day for the sports festival has arrived. Sam decided to wear his casual clothes this time around, as he does not feel like wearing the sports uniform the kids wear. He just wore his casual clothes: a t-shirt and a pair of basketball shorts, combined with slippers.
He was in the waiting room with all the other kids and was watching them hype up for this. Then Iida warns that they are about to go out. Sam was about to see them off when Todoroki decided to say his piece.
"Midoriya, I think from an outside standpoint, I am stronger than you."
"…yeah."
"But you have All Might in your corner. I won't pry, but I will beat you."
Kaminari mentions how trash talking has already started. Then Kirishima puts his hand on his shoulder to try to diffuse the situation.
"I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to win."
He turns to leave.
"He's right," Midoriya says, dampening them even more. "We should try to be the best and win. So I will say this. You are stronger than me… but I'm going to aim for the top too!"
Shoto then turns away and leaves.
'I shouldn't, but I should talk to him.'
Sam walks out after Todoroki. He sees him walking away and calls out.
"Yo!"
Todoroki turns around. "What?"
"I just wanted to say this. Being alone in the world is cruel. You need to have people you trust to have your back. That's why I hate All Might. He promotes this image that if one is strong enough, they can do anything by themselves. You should try and open up to making friends. They will have your back when you need them most."
Sam suddenly remembers the ten kids again. He rubs his temple, trying to get it out of his mind.
"Food for thought," Sam says before heading to the viewing area for students.
As all the students were on the field, it makes sense why Sam was alone. He then hears Present Mic announce it along with Aizawa.
'I bet he was tricked into this.'
He finally starts to introduce the students. His introduction for his class and 1-B were too different. He hyped up 1-A but totally made 1-B seem like nobodies.
'I haven't gotten to see them in action yet, but I'm sure they are tough.'
Sam watches as the other classes come in. Nothing else to note except the indigo boy.
Finally Midnight begins.
"Now for the students' pledge, Katsuki Bakugo!"
Sam just deadpanned. "Whose bright idea was it to let the Chihuahua make the goddamn pledge?"
He sees him walk up and stand before the microphone.
"I just want to say, I'm going to win."
'That arrogance. He truly believes that his victory is a given fact. Well, he's got guts.'
Sam just decides to shut up and watch.
"The first game will be… an obstacle course!"
From what Sam could gather, all of them will race and only those at the top will move on. He sees them all at the start, ready to haul ass.
"Oh. They ain't gonna fit in there."
Sam sees that tunnel and can tell things will get chaotic.
The moment it starts, Todoroki freezes everyone at the start. Sam nods, but more so at the resolve of the others escaping his trap.
Suddenly Sam sees the big robots—and more importantly, he sees that Todoroki froze it. That's not what caught his attention. He made it fall onto Kirishima.
Sam stood up and was about to call out to stop the festival, but it seems that Kirishima and the steel boy were perfectly fine.
"Does this school not fear lawsuits? At best, if he did that on a soft flesh-and-blood person, they would die. And this school would be ruined."
Sam feels a bit worried.
'This better not be a death trap for kids. I've had enough…'
Sam suddenly had to hold his head. Memories of a cruel game he was forced to play. Memories of a cliff and a large number of kids surface in his mind. Sam feels like throwing up from this memory.
'No! I swear this better not threaten them. I won't let kids die again for some fucked up game.'
Sam continues watching, but more seriously.
He sees the giant pit.
"There must be a net to catch anyone who falls."
He watches, impressed with the students, as they overcome these obstacles. One catches his eye—a girl with pink dreadlocks. She made a jet pack. He also saw Todoroki and Bakugo as the headliners. He also had to give credit to the girl with vines in her hair. She truly is a force to be reckoned with.
He also caught Midoriya holding on to a piece of metal from a robot.
'Nice. Using the environment to your advantage. Nice, Izuku.'
He sees him come up with a plan with the mines, which are only concussive. He sees him gathering a bunch of them.
'Is he seriously going to do this?'
Sam stands up, having an idea of what Midoriya plans.
He dives onto the pile of mines and propels himself towards the goal, surpassing a shocked Bakugo and Todoroki. They are neck and neck, but he does something else. He slams his metal piece onto the ground, making a blast pushing the other two aside. He sticks the landing and runs with all his might to the finish.
Sam is wide-eyed.
'This kid is something else.'
He smirks as he respects him using no quirk and only his wits.
Then he sees Midoriya pass the finish line and become the winner.
Sam shoots up and starts to clap for him.
"Well done, kid. You showed the world that quirks can't beat old-fashioned brainstorming."
Sam watched the others pass the finish line. He sees an annoyed Todoroki and an angry Chihuahua.
After the top 40 passed, it ended. Midnight doesn't waste time and reveals the next game.
A cavalry battle. Someone is carried and they steal headbands. The headbands' points are determined by the ranking for the race.
'Uh-oh.'
"…and for 1st place, 10,000,000 points!"
Sam is wide-eyed.
'That sadistic fucking rat… well, good luck, kid.'
Sam sighs and sits down and watches them all look at him like prey.
"Let's see how he handles this."
