Chapter 40 - Chapter 040: Activation: Single-Tomoe

Seiya going to school was a major event. Not just for Megumai, but for Kumogakure.

For the past two years, the Fourth Raikage had been engaged in an extremely important task: creating a favourable Kumogakure environment and nurturing a sense of belonging in the Uchiha mother and son, especially Tojo Seiya!

After all, the little one was a blank slate, and if painted with the magnificent colors of Kumogakure, the descendants of Seiya-the new Uchiha-would surely carry the essence of Kumogakure.

Building a sense of trust and belonging takes a long, long time. But destroying it takes only an instant.

An inadvertent word, an unintentional glance, could sow the seeds of estrangement, which would be hard to eradicate.

This was a serious matter.

To prevent this, when Megumai and Seiya first arrived in Kumogakure, two years ago, the Fourth Raikage held a Shinobi assembly, explicitly forbidding all written words, speech, and actions that could be considered discriminatory towards the new villagers!

The effect was significant. In the past two years, no unfriendly incidents had occurred.

This was partly due to the Fourth Raikage's immense authority, but more so because Megumai herself was a credit to them.

After all, she served as the Director of the Shinobi Hospital and implemented many effective measures that benefited the public.

Who would be so foolish as to discriminate against their saviour? They adored her!

Now, Seiya was about to step through the doors of the Shinobi Academy.

The Fourth Raikage held another assembly, gathering all the parents of the enrolled students, and instructed them to go home and educate their children to prevent any degree or form of bullying.

After all, if an ordinary child was bullied, the child and their parents would only blame the bully's poor character.

But if Seiya was bullied, Megumai might well interpret it as the start of Kumogakure's targeting and ostracization.

Learning from the negative example of Konoha ostracizing the Uchiha, the Fourth Raikage had always been committed to stifling all negative situations before they could even emerge.

His efforts were not in vain.

Seiya was living very happily in Kumogakure and loved the village dearly.

Furthermore, his memories from early childhood had almost completely faded, and his mother had never mentioned living anywhere else, leading the little one to believe he was a native-born Kumogakure resident.

September 1st, the Shinobi Academy's opening day.

In the morning, on Fourth Generation Street.

Seiya carried his small backpack, holding his mother's hand, walking step by step toward the Shinobi Academy.

In two years, the little one had grown from the baby in his mother's arms to a handsome and lovable boy.

At six years old, he had neat, short hair, black eyes, a slightly turned-up nose, thin lips, fair skin, and his height had already passed Megumai's waist.

Soon, they arrived at the school.

Many parents and children were gathered in front of the school gate, a huge crowd pouring into the school under the guidance of the teachers.

Many people recognized Director Tojo and warmly greeted her with respect.

Megumai politely smiled and nodded in acknowledgment the entire way.

Near the teaching building, Megumai crouched down, straightened her son's hair, and then pointed to the 'Parents Stop Here' sign.

"Baby, go into the building to find your class now. Mommy can't go up with you."

"Okay."

Seiya nodded, his small hand tightly clutching his mother's sleeve, his big eyes staring blankly at the six-story teaching building.

Megumai gently asked, "Do you remember which class it is?"

"First Grade, Class Eight."

"That's right, Class Eight."

Megumai nodded slightly and instructed, "Find your class and go in, and make sure to get along well with the other children. Mommy will be here to pick you up on time when school is over in the evening. You can tell Mommy all the happy and unhappy things then."

"Okay," Seiya softly agreed, his eyes gradually becoming moist, and he started blinking more frequently.

He had a premonition that his mother was about to leave, and he was very reluctant.

He had never been separated from his mother for more than half an hour since he was born!

His mother even brought him to the hospital during meetings!

Megumai was aware of her son's reluctance, but in times like this, she had to be quick and decisive!

"Mommy is leaving now. I'll pick you up when school is over."

As she spoke, Megumai gently released her son's small hand from her sleeve, stood up, and quickly walked away, not daring to look back at her son.

His mother's silhouette moved further away until it disappeared.

Seiya stood in place, staring blankly, feeling like the whole world was gradually moving away.

The surroundings were lively, yet it felt cold and dark.

Standing alone in a strange place, he felt incredibly tiny and helpless.

A sense of grievance and fear rushed into his heart, impossible to suppress.

Is Mommy abandoning me?

Seiya knew the answer was no, but he couldn't help but feel a sliver of worry.

After all, this was the first time he had been away from his mother for an extended period.

The fear of the unknown infinitely magnified the negative emotions.

The sliver of worry quickly inflated into overwhelming helplessness and confusion!

Seiya stood silently in place, unable to stop crying, tears overflowing from his eyes, and his small hands wiped the tears away.

He kept wiping, and the tears kept flowing.

His black pupils unknowingly turned scarlet, with a single Tomoe gently spinning within.

"Excuse me, are you Seiya-kun?"

A gentle female voice sounded by his ear.

Seiya looked up, vaguely seeing the female Shinobi about to reach out to touch his head.

He quickly stepped back to dodge and ran into the teaching building.

The female Shinobi looked bewildered.

She had been commanded by the Raikage to lead the confused Seiya to his class.

She never expected him to run off before she could even finish speaking, and she didn't even get to pat his head!

Also, those eyes just now-were they the Sharingan!

Activating the Sharingan at six years old?

The female Shinobi was delighted; her class had produced a young genius!

At the same time, behind a large tree not far away, Megumai withdrew her gaze, turned around, and left the school.

Her son was reluctant to leave her, and she was equally reluctant to leave him.

She had been hiding behind the tree, observing her son's reaction.

When Seiya silently shed tears, her heart clenched, her eyes reddened, and she couldn't help but want to cry with him.

She even had the impulse to 'immediately take the baby home, no more school'!

But her reason told her that this was inappropriate.

Her son was not a small raccoon clinging to her; he would eventually grow up to be independent, a complete person with a sound personality.

Excessive dependency must be eliminated!

Therefore, Megumai did not show herself or take her son away.

But when she saw Seiya activate his eyes, her heart was instantly flooded with self-reproach.

She never expected 'going to school and leaving Mommy' to be such a huge stimulus for her son!

Megumai deeply regretted not gradually separating from her son a few times beforehand to build his tolerance.

As a first-time mother, she was ultimately lacking in experience and had not done enough.

Megumai felt immensely guilty and was determined to compensate her son well after school.
