Chapter 7 - Chapter 7-Lies, Lines, and Layers

"Do you need some snacks?" Xavier's voice echoed along the way to living room. "Of course!" Kendall raised her voice to be audible enough in sound of smart television.

"I know. I'm asking the others," he replied. He brought all the tins and packages to the table. And the television shut down by Cindery. She opened her tablet to show the progress.

"Numbers are in the top 90th-percentile in the underground world. Not bad!" remarked Asher.

"True! But this significantly needs progress; if you recognize the patterns, they seem to be weak in these four regions," Cindery circled them with her stylus.

"And if you thoroughly zoom into the reports, they seem to be lacking. As if something's fishy," added Kendall.

"This is the cause for the concern," Cindery said, running a hand through her long straight hair to concentrate.

"Here," Asher took off the tie from his wrist and tied her hair.

"Ooh! Some one's going to lose self-control tonight," mocked Kendall.

"Back to the business. No more teasing." Their voice met to became like a thunder stroke on her as they stared.

She leaned back with her one of her hands pinching the bridge of her nose. Xavier slid a drink toward her, but she nudged it back without a word. She glanced at her phone with her eye brows raised. Her hands started trembling as she turned the screen.

"Look what I've found," she said, seeking attention.

"Forward this to us," escaped their lips as their eyes widened.

Cindery skimmed the information of the impersonators while Asher searched for their records. Xavier, on a call, marched past the corridor; "I want each and every record to date of transactions, contracts, and so on of every single department," His voice showed the urgency and he squeezed a tin.

"Ha-ha, Ha-ha, Ha-ha," A demonic laughter filled the air amidst a champagne toasting. "We looted ZAK Corporation" they celebrated, not knowing they've invited their deaths. The music got louder as the vivid lights glowed.

Suddenly, the entrance opened. A woman and a man with matte-black coats stepped in and started dancing.

Asher's hand was around her waist as they danced in a circle and switched the companions as the lights switched.

"You seem to be new here," the young man initiated with his grip against her lower body pulling her close.

Asher's eyes burned as he noticed.

"What do you think?" Cindery continued getting aligned with him consciously.

The woman held his collar and drew him closer, "Are you... single? Because I want to cut you into pieces and dump you just to know how you taste."

His gaze never looked down on her and he pushed her to a distance which she should never cross and grunted in epiphany, "Desire me? But you can't have me. Love me? But I can't love you back."

Her gaze lowered down to see his hand, around her waist. She faked a sprain in her ankle, for him to touch her. As the lights turned blue and Cindery rolled to switch to another, he pulled her towards him using his hand, Leaving behind, her dance partner.

They went out. Cindery took off the coat and dusted herself off in the rest room.

"I told you don't let anyone touch you but you-," She turned and moved close to him, holding his hands and putting them around her abdomen.

"You see for yourself, did I?"

"Hmm, he muttered, pressing his hands. "Why is it so pudgy and potbellied today?" He starred at her curves, moving his hands around. She slipped away from his grip, taking off a thick belt.

"No wonder, I thought, how come you gained weight in just a few hours?" He hugged her from behind and as she turned, he stepped closer. "Done, done?" his curiosity went wild. She nodded.

Their eyes went still and smiles vanished, as they got close. The air filled with ambiguity.

His eyes moved from one to other and to her lips, "May I-," Someone hissed and opened the door.

"So that's why you rejected me? For her?" the woman from before muttered.

Cindery plucked herself away and adjusted her dress and left with her coat hung on her elbow and her hair swung around her face. He went behind her; he carried her on his arm as if her weight was nothing to him.

The phone rang as he rested her against the seat. She answered.

"The paper work is done. Kendall and I found all the problems"

"We are also coming back" As the phone disconnected another call vibrated on the muted mobile.

She rejected the call twice. On the third ring, he answered.

"Hello"

"Hi," Rita exclaimed; hearing his voice made her act graceful. He rolled his eyes in disgust.

"Never call again until you know how to greet someone. And learn the fine line between 'Hi' and 'Hello'."

He hung up the phone seeing her already asleep. He covered her with his coat.
