Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Backlash Begins

Unfortunately, I only managed to snag a win in the first round.

Once they caught on that I'd been sniping them left and right, the pubbers straight-up focused down Rain from the start and marked my every move openly. There wasn't much I could do about it.

Even a pro gamer would've thrown in the towel in that situation.

Dragging along a bunch of folks meant they could overwhelm us with sheer numbers, no matter how hard we thrashed around.

Of course, I didn't get pissed off or anything just because we couldn't keep winning.

I'd done everything I could anyway, and I'd gotten to game with the boss for a solid four hours, so there was no way I could feel bad about it.

:: :: Anonymous Sponsor has donated 100,000 Clouds! :: ::

:: :: We'll get to see each other again, right...? :: ::

So I made a point to respond to a sponsorship like that, which I normally would've ignored.

"The one just now was kinda funny. We all watch broadcasts in the same chat window every day."

─ Uh...

─ Why does that hit so hard?

─ Getting it now lololol

─ The realization...

"Anyway, starting tomorrow, I'll be back to watching the members' streams as a fellow viewer. Like the boss said earlier, we'll cross paths again if the chance comes up. Thanks so much for today. Looking forward to working with you and 1st Gen going forward."

─ Aaaaa...

─ Bye, staffer!!

─ Diva

─ Staffer ㅠㅠ

─ Diva!!!

The boss didn't say much, and everything wrapped up nicely.

Up to that point, it definitely felt like smooth sailing—at least that's how I remember it.

The baseless smears started sticking a week later.

[Honestly, Signal Flare's skill seems way overhyped]

Right after the stream ended, it was all like?

Total hack, carried hard, amazing

They hyped up Momo's Rain a ton too, sure

But tbh, even Momo barely scraped by in that first win?

She bombed hard after that

Anyway, no matter how you slice it, that first win wasn't all Signal Flare lol

Feels like too much pushing going on haha

─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─

Even the one guy kinda defending me flipped like he'd been hit with a hypnosis beam and started biting.

Did I really suck that bad?

No way.

I'd carried the game while lugging around two deadweights and handling manager duties on top of it.

Plus, everyone praised me nonstop when I guested as a troll on the boss's stream, but now that I went live myself, they were tearing me down?

Maybe I didn't notice, but shrinking down made my skills drop or something.

I hadn't mentioned it yesterday, but yeah.

My hands got smaller, and fussing over that meant my sustain in games was worse than usual.

In the Battle Coliseum showdowns especially, I was going all-out like the boss, so it kinda bugged me.

That's why I'd been grinding ranked solo more after work lately.

Not to show off to anyone—just to double-check if I really sucked.

Ditching my usual highlight reel binges from the main servers to focus on games paid off like this:

[(Team) TandooriChickenBorderDidBorder: Dude, you're total hype no substance]

[(Team) SpacePirateNylonMusk: ?]

[(Team) SpacePirateNylonMusk: Do I know you?]

[(Team) TandooriChickenBorderDidBorder: Signal Flare, right?]

[(Team) SpacePirateNylonMusk: Wtf]

[(Team) TandooriChickenBorderDidBorder: Makes sense you sucked this game, got it?]

[(Team) SpacePirateNylonMusk: ???]

(Teammate TandooriChickenBorderDidBorder has left the game)

Out-of-nowhere in-game smears like that.

The problem was when it went from one guy to two, three... and I started wondering.

...What the hell?

Why's everyone talking like they know it's me?

Sure, double-barrel spears stand out in ranked, but tons of copycats have been doing it forever, and nicknames vary, so I figured it'd be hard to pin down.

"If it were me, I'd just poke and see, huh...?"

Life's full of wild shit.

I figured more people might recognize me eventually, but I didn't expect my side account to get doxxed without a peep.

Time for account #21, I guess.

It's late, but at least I should queue a placement match before bed.

1. Overview

Suspected head manager for Parallel's 1st Gen VTubers.

First gained fame in 2019 as Momo's sniper.

Infamous freak who maintains Diamond tier by loading two double-barrels onto a spear as her main.

Started appearing less from 2021,

We thought she'd gone back to real life... but...

2. D Rain, Staff D

Recently showed up out of nowhere as D Rain on 1st Gen Rain's [Find Rain] content,

Fooling even Chairman Rain with voice impressions#?

and

rap#?

Next week, collabed with Rain and Momo on Battle Coliseum. Captivated viewers instantly with her cute voice and killer broadcast vibes, sparking tons of "Why isn't she streaming?!" questions.

Even against pubbers,

she wrote legends like 9:1 smokescreen bloodbath,

properly showing Diamond class.

So far, confirmed as Momo's ex-manager who joined Parallel.

The next day, Dohee came back from lunch, checked the link Rain sent, and burst out laughing.

"Fans are really putting in the work."

Just last week, the page was brand new with only a few basics.

Now? Gender, affiliation, even short broadcast anecdotes.

Practically debut-ready, packed like an internet streamer with tens of thousands of subs.

Felt like every scrap of public info was crammed in.

"High interest, but no issues or drama... smooth sailing."

If she'd messed up that last collab with Gia, she wouldn't have this peace.

Dohee sipped her iced Americano from the first-floor cafe and leaned back in her chair.

For a brief moment, anyway.

"Ah, shit. This damn mouth."

She'd just jinxed it big-time.

The kind of curse that guarantees some incident blows up.

But even if it was a slip, she couldn't help relaxing.

Over a week since the stream, and yeah, Signal Flare and Staff D got mentioned in communities, but nothing exploded.

Guys threatening to dump shitposts followed through on a few victims but got shut down quick by mods.

Still, clicks on titles like 'Parallel 2nd Gen Staff D Panel Leak' didn't help.

Obvious bait, but...

"...Better safe than sorry."

Feeling uneasy about potential drama, Dohee reviewed her ongoing tasks one by one.

1st Gen 3D models.

Done next month.

Quality and poly count on point.

1st Gen debut 1st anniversary group song.

Label sent samples—better than expected.

Girls practicing hard, recording in 3 weeks.

2nd Gen applications.

Promo banner ready.

Outsourcer final-checking site traffic.

"Planning side's good..."

Next, operations.

First up: 1st Gen broadcast schedules.

Rain's grinding Battle Coliseum Iron escape with her pond crew this week too,

Maru's grabbed another puzzle game somewhere,

Komari's on Naore ranked,

Dora's...

"Huh."

Cheon Dohee double-checked the game name.

Twice, three times: [Pandemic Village].

"Horror game?"

Latest in the globally popular Pandemic series, a masterpiece blending horror and FPS.

Bit gory, but slap an 19+ rating on it—no issue.

The issue was Dora playing a horror game.

Dohee checked the time, then called Magia first.

Riiiing, riiiing.

The tone dragged nearly a full minute before voicemail.

[...Yaaawwnnn....]

Sleepy, just-woke-up voice, but still cute as hell.

Truly blessed tones, Dohee thought as she said,

"Gia. Dora's doing horror stream today."

Magia yawned a few times before mumbling back after a bit.

[...Ung. Can you tell her to skip it at the office later?]

*

"Yaaawn."

Even after showering, yawns kept coming thick.

Should've quit gaming sooner.

Towel over her still-damp hair, she fiddled with her phone.

Akari Dora's Z had the schedule changed for sure.

Akari Dora☑ @Akari_Dora - 5 min ago

Guys let's negotiate plz

Akari Dora☑ @Akari_Dora - 1 min ago

Anything but horror stream ok? Plz?

Horror stream jumped out: tardy penalty.

Dora, 1st Gen's top offender, self-imposed: 10th tardy means viewer-rec horror game as punishment.

"Already ten? In just two months."

Normal shift's 3 PM to midnight, but for Dora's horror streams, she stays till end.

Dora tries hard not to mess up.

But innate klutziness: startles bump desks and gear everywhere, causing issues.

No tech know-how means she can't fix it, stalling streams.

Stalled streams piss off viewers.

Think mid-Night of Legends match fuzz—casters banter all they want, but delays grind nerves.

With casters it's bad; solo streamer filling dead air? Worse.

If sound cuts out too? Hell.

That audio interface fix a few weeks back—looked simple, but one of the pains tanking Dora's live viewers.

Sure, could just wait at her place instead of office standby.

But dude staffer hanging hours at a solo girl's home 'just in case gear fails'? Sketchy pic...

"...Hold up."

She tilted her head.

Either way.

Mirror showed a cute girl fresh from shower.

"Doesn't this mean I *can* wait at Dora's place?"
