Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Curtain Falls

As Chi-Chi and Krillin lunged toward Jackie Chun in a fury—

He flinched.

"Wait, wait! He's not dead!"

Jackie Chun pointed toward the rubble—where a completely naked Goku lay, tail intact and twitching.

"Goku!"

"He's alive!"

Chi-Chi and Krillin's faces lit up at once.

Jackie Chun hurried to explain,

"The one I destroyed with my blast wasn't Goku—it was the moon."

"The… moon?"

Everyone stared, then slowly turned their eyes to the sky.

Just moments ago, a bright full moon had hung overhead.

Now—gone.

"The moon… it really disappeared!"

Jackie Chun added,

"Now Goku won't transform into a Great Ape again.

But still—how ridiculous.

Guess there's no more moon-gazing tonight. Mooncakes are canceled too."

The announcer stared up at the sky, dumbfounded.

"This… this is terrifying.

He blew up the moon with Ki?

How are we supposed to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival now?"

Jackie Chun barked,

"Enough nonsense! Start the count!"

The referee jumped, flustered, and began the countdown.

"One! Two! Three! Four…"

As he reached eight, Goku suddenly stirred and stood up.

A breeze passed by—

Goku shivered.

"Eh? Why's it so cold?"

He looked down.

…He was completely naked.

His eyes darted around—

Besides Krillin, Chi-Chi, and Bulma, a lot of strangers were watching.

Goku shrieked and immediately covered himself.

Jackie Chun scowled.

"See? If you'd counted faster, he wouldn't have gotten back up. The win would've been mine!"

Bulma's lips curled into a sly grin.

"Been a while since I saw Goku's little butt.

What a nostalgic view~"

Krillin and Chi-Chi both exhaled in relief.

Krillin: "Thank goodness he's okay."

Chi-Chi: "As long as he's alive, who cares about the moon?"

Then Chi-Chi turned toward Krillin.

He blinked.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You've got underwear on, right?"

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Chi-Chi said bluntly,

"We can't just let Goku fight that old man completely naked.

You two are the same size.

Go lend him your clothes."

Krillin had wanted to help—

But Chi-Chi's sharp tone made him hesitate. He suddenly didn't feel like it anymore.

Just then, the referee spoke up:

"Wait! I'm pausing the match!

Sorry, Contestant Son, please put some clothes on before continuing.

The World Martial Arts Tournament is a respectable competition!"

Goku, still feeling his tail and seeing the sky void of a moon, realized what had happened.

He'd lost control. Transformed.

The moon was gone—blasted by Master Roshi's Kamehameha.

That's how he'd changed back.

Krillin climbed onto the stage.

"Goku, here—wear my clothes."

But Goku shook his head.

"It's okay. You saw that Kamehameha earlier, right? It was way too strong.

There's no way I can beat that. I'll just concede."

Krillin argued,

"At least put something on! You can't stand here in front of all these people like that!

And besides… Chi-Chi's staring."

Goku glanced at her—

She had her hands over her face, cheeks beet red…

But she was peeking through her fingers.

Mortified, Goku yelled,

"Krillin! Quick, gimme that!"

Krillin peeled off his outer shirt and handed it over.

Goku threw it on hastily and marched to the center of the ring.

"Mr. Announcer, I forfeit!"

The host blinked.

"But the old man's low on stamina. Are you sure you don't want to fight a bit longer?"

Goku shook his head.

"If he aimed that Kamehameha at me instead of the moon, I'd be dead.

I'd rather not take that chance!"

Jackie Chun raised his thumb with a proud grin.

"Good lad! That's proper martial virtue—I respect that!

From your actions, I can tell your teacher must be a truly honorable martial artist!"

Goku: "…"

'Man… he's even complimenting himself now. That face of his is way too thick-skinned.'

With Goku officially conceding, the referee shouted into the mic,

"Congratulations! This year's World Martial Arts Tournament Champion is… Jackie Chun!"

"What a battle this was!

In the fight for the title of world's strongest, we witnessed a showdown beyond imagination!

Please give both our champion Jackie Chun and our runner-up Son Goku a thunderous round of applause—

Their performances were phenomenal!"

Applause erupted like a storm—roaring and relentless.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us! Please exit the venue in an orderly fashion. We'll see you again next tournament!"

Jackie Chun collected his 500,000 zeni prize and quickly slipped away to change.

Goku came down from the ring.

Krillin and Chi-Chi rushed in, hugging him tightly.

Bulma strolled over and smiled softly as she watched the three kids hopping and laughing in celebration.

Her face unconsciously blossomed into the warm, doting smile… of a proud aunt.
