Chapter 60 - Chapter 60

"This… okay…"

Seeing that Yagami wanted to accompany her to pick mushrooms, Uchiha Mikoto lowered her gaze slightly and answered in a soft voice, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks.

The two of them hadn't seen each other for several days.

Truthfully, she had been hoping for a chance like this—to spend a little time alone with him.

"Oh, right."

"I brought something back for you. Come with me…"

With a mysterious smile, Yagami gently tugged Mikoto along, leading her back into the courtyard.

"A gift?"

The moment she heard that word, Mikoto's eyes lit up, warmth spreading through her chest as if something sweet had melted there.

He just came back from a mission… and he still thought of me…

The thought alone made her cheeks heat up again.

After closing the door, Yagami raised one hand theatrically.

"Don't blink. I'll let you witness a miracle."

He held his palm out in front of Mikoto—empty.

At the same time, he deliberately put on an exaggerated, serious expression, clearly trying to draw her attention.

Woosh—

Mikoto stared intently at his hand.

Then, in the next instant, something appeared out of thin air.

Her eyes widened.

It was as if Yagami had performed a magic trick right in front of her.

But when she saw what it actually was, she couldn't help but giggle.

"This… isn't this just a child's toy?"

She looked at him with a mix of surprise and amusement.

She really hadn't expected Yagami to give her something like this… though, admittedly, it was kind of cute.

"This isn't an ordinary bamboo dragonfly," Yagami said with a smile.

Instead of explaining, he simply reached out and pressed the suction pad at the bottom of it onto the top of her head.

"Pfft… what, are you planning to make this thing fly me into the sky?"

Mikoto laughed again, completely unconcerned.

She never imagined someone as calm and capable as Yagami would have such childish ideas.

"…You guessed right," Yagami replied, raising an eyebrow.

Then, without hesitation, he pressed the switch.

Huhuhu—

A soft whirring sound filled the air.

In the next second—

Mikoto's feet left the ground.

"W—Woah?!"

A startled cry escaped her lips.

She had thought he was joking.

She never expected him to be serious.

Her body lifted unsteadily into the air, panic mixing with disbelief.

"Hahaha!"

Seeing her hovering there, flustered and at a complete loss, Yagami burst out laughing.

Still, worried she might bump into something if she stayed like that too long, he quickly activated his own device and flew up beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Easy, easy… I've got you."

Feeling her cling tightly to him, Yagami relaxed a little, still smiling.

"I… I'm not dreaming, am I?"

Mikoto's heart was pounding as the ground slowly drifted farther away.

Half of it was fear.

The other half was the overwhelming awareness of being held so close in his arms.

"Of course you're not dreaming," Yagami said, gently patting her back.

He could feel her trembling, just a little.

"So? Do you like the gift?"

After a while, once Mikoto finally adjusted and stopped shaking, Yagami loosened his hold.

This thing wasn't exactly practical, but it was perfect for flying around and having fun.

"This… this is incredible!"

Now free from his embrace, Mikoto couldn't help but exclaim again.

She never imagined she would actually be able to fly.

Earlier, she had almost laughed at his childishness.

Now, that thought was completely gone.

"Come on," Yagami said with a grin, reaching for her hand.

"Let's go pick those mushrooms you wanted."

At this point, the gesture didn't feel awkward at all.

After all, they had already been much closer than this.

Rising higher and higher, the two of them flew hand in hand out of the Uchiha clan grounds.

The wind brushed softly past their faces.

Below them, the people and buildings shrank until they were no larger than ants.

From this height, Konoha looked breathtaking.

Before long, they entered a forest.

But by now, Mikoto had completely forgotten about mushrooms.

Flying itself was far too fascinating.

Laughing, she chased after Yagami through the trees, darting back and forth like a child at play.

The two of them moved like butterflies, weaving freely through the forest.

They soared upward—then dropped back down toward the ground.

Mikoto's laughter rang out again and again.

Time slipped by unnoticed.

The sun slowly dipped toward the horizon.

By the time they finally settled down, dusk had arrived.

Mikoto glanced at the basket in Yagami's hand and froze.

It was empty.

Only then did embarrassment sink in.

They had come out to gather mushrooms… and ended up forgetting entirely.

Now that she remembered, it was already too late.

"…Let's head back," Yagami said, laughing.

"Looks like there just weren't any mushrooms in the forest today."

His laughter only made Mikoto's face burn even redder.
