Chapter 17 - Rage

Unknown was puzzled. "Dinosaur monster?"

"Yes.. D-Dinosaur. Monster." answered Shikito.

The wave of silence began. All one could hear was the rattling of leaves and the crisp dance of flames. Shikito and Suzume trembled in fear.

Unknown murmured, "Br-Brother... W-Where are you?"

For the first time in his eyes, fear was clearly visible. Suzume stuttered, "I-It was a dinosaur. It h-had. Three-"

That's all she could say before breaking down to tears, her memories haunting her. Shikito intervened, "It had three heads! I-I almost peed in my p-pants."

Unknown glared at Yuuma, lying pale. Without hesitation, he climbed upon Yuuma, and landed a punch right on his face. Suzume and Shikito were stunned.

"Is this what you wanted, Sangakai?! Is this what you wanted?!", roared Unknown. He continued, "What about your oath? Weren't you going to remove the very existence of Helix?!"

Yuuma still lied pale. Unknown gritted his teeth, and punched Yuuma once again. A trail of blood flowed down through his punched face.

"So you've made up your mind to die like a coward in an unnamed forest! As you wish. But remember, people like you, yes, people like you who make promises and let them break like glass cutlery end up having the most..." Unknown paused, catching some breath. "End up having the most humiliating and miserable death!"

Shikito tried to stop Unknown, but it was of no use.

Unknown screamed, "How come are you Yuki's son?! You seem like the son of a coward rodent! You are-"

A distant roar shook the forest.

The ground trembled.

The flames bent violently in one direction.

Suzume whispered through tears:

"I-It's coming here."

Unknown, wide-eyed and confused, asked Suzume, "Who?! The monster?!"

"G-Guess so...", intervened Shikito.

A large army of tribes was seen marching west, carrying torches, swords, and other weapons. Spears devoured by flames flew everywhere.

Shikito sighed, "Phew! They went in the other direction."

Suzume slapped Shikito, "But they passed with such proximity! Are you stupid!?"

Unknown intervened, "It's not safe to stay here for too long. The smoke is making it harder to breathe... Let's leave."

"And Yuuma?!" asked Suzume.

Unknown paused. He looked back right at Yuuma's closed eyelids. "He'll be on his own... If he dies, it's his fault. He's fragile. If he fights like us, he is a true Illuminator... His mother didn't die so he could nap in an apocalypse."

Unknown's punch still hung in the air, knuckles split and bloody from Yuuma's cheekbone. The words he'd spat lingered heavier than the ash.

Shikito shook himself. "Ayo ayo! Stop this philosophical literature!"

Without thinking, Shikito grabbed Yuuma and wrapped his arms around him, lifting him tightly...

Suzume froze. "I-It's right there... That monster."

Far away at the cliff of the fuming mountain, stood the three-headed dinosaur, its mouths filled with the chewed corpses of children.

"It's... Over."
