Chapter 153 - Chapter 153: Jirachi: Invincible Kyogre, I Worship You the Most

Legendary Pokémon can generally be called "Pokémon of myth and legend," the key Pokémon that show up in the great legends of the Pokémon World.

In game terms, Legendary Pokémon usually have incredibly powerful abilities and are extremely rare. Some are revered as gods or divine emissaries, some are said to be creators or managers of parts of the world, and some have even caused massive disasters in the distant past.

Mythical Pokémon and Ultra Beasts were once lumped together under the "Legendary" label too.

We'll set Ultra Beasts aside for now. Whether they still "deserve" the Legendary title is debatable, though they did have serious prestige at first, and are generally very strong.

Mythical Pokémon are sometimes also grouped with Legendary Pokémon.

In the games, most Mythical Pokémon can't be obtained in normal play. You only encounter them through special in‑game events via Mystery Gift, or by getting special event items that trigger unique encounters.

In the Pokémon World, Pokémon that are rarely sighted and poorly documented are sometimes also referred to as "Mythical Pokémon."

For example, movie‑verse Lugia; Dratini back before that fisherman ever hooked one; the mysterious beast‑like Pokémon recorded in the Scarlet Book; the mysterious trio resembling the Swords of Justice recorded in the Violet Book.

Yeah, that one Dratini episode was the peak of its net worth.

And the Manaphy Jirachi mentioned is one of those Mythical Pokémon.

Most Mythical Pokémon have unique powers: Celebi can travel through time; Jirachi can grant wishes; Victini brings victory, and so on.

Manaphy is no exception. Born in the freezing depths of the sea, it has an innate ability to connect its heart with any Pokémon.

And notably, in the games, Manaphy is the only Mythical Pokémon that can breed with Ditto, producing Phione.

"Jirachi, that's not quite the same thing."

Damian's expression turned a bit odd. Manaphy riding Kyogre wasn't Manaphy bragging—that scene had literally shown up in a movie.

Lore‑wise, Kyogre is very likely the origin of the seas—or at the very least, as the "deep‑sea king," it has every reason to be close with Manaphy, who's born in the ocean depths.

And since Manaphy can naturally connect with the hearts of other Pokémon, it's basically a "natural charmer" among Pokémon—especially for sea‑dwellers. In the ocean, Manaphy is basically everyone's spoiled team mascot.

With Manaphy doting on it, Kyogre agreeing to give it a ride is perfectly normal. Manaphy's that cute; what's wrong with spoiling it?

But Jirachi is not Manaphy.

"Mmm… so I can't?" Jirachi's voice fell flat, its expression visibly dimming.

"It's not that you can't. How about you ask Kyogre yourself what it thinks?"

Even Damian couldn't tank that look for long. The "damage output" was way too high.

He'd always respected his Pokémon's own wishes. Kyogre was a proud Pokémon; not just anyone got to ride it.

Right now, aside from Damian himself, that big fat fish refused to carry anyone.

In Kyogre's own words, it was the one that had beaten Shiny Rayquaza. It was the deep‑sea king. It was noble.

"Really?" Jirachi's big eyes lit up at once.

"Come on out, Kyogre."

Damian took out a deep red Cherish Ball—yes, he'd traded Kyogre into a new ball.

Cherish Balls were incredibly rare and valuable, their dark crimson color very eye‑catching and distinct from other Poké Balls.

Silph Co. hadn't manufactured the top‑tier Master Ball yet; otherwise Damian would've swapped Kyogre into one of those.

He wasn't short on money. The better the ball's performance, the more comfortable his Pokémon would be.

He never shortchanged his partners; he always gave them the best he could.

The Cherish Ball opened, and Kyogre appeared overhead, its whole body shimmering with a soft blue glow—elegant and regal.

Of course, Kyogre didn't trigger its Drizzle Ability; after a quick scan it sensed no enemies.

It gave Damian a puzzled look instead. Why had it been called out? It'd been sleeping just fine.

"Whoa~ It really is Kyogre!"

The moment Jirachi saw Kyogre, its eyes practically sparkled, and it floated up in front of Kyogre, voice full of worship.

Kyogre tilted its head at the tiny Jirachi. It knew of Jirachi's existence, though they weren't exactly close.

Staying cool, Kyogre gave it a slight nod—neither warm nor cold.

"I 'saw' it back then, Kyogre~! The Kyogre that beat Rayquaza~ You're so strong!"

Jirachi was starry‑eyed. It might've been in stone form during LaRousse City's battle, but it had still sensed that earth‑shaking fight.

That was exactly why it wanted to ride the big fish. A big fish that had beaten Rayquaza!

At those words, the fat‑headed fish practically melted, its whole body relaxing in satisfaction as it stared at Jirachi.

Not bad. The more it looked at this Jirachi, the more it liked it.

"Kyogre, Jirachi just woke up. Could you give it a little ride around the area?"

Seeing the good mood between them, Damian smiled at Kyogre.

Give this Jirachi a ride?

Kyogre fell into thought. It did like this Jirachi's vibe—but it was the noble Kyogre.

Other than Damian, the one human it acknowledged, it wasn't keen on other Pokémon riding on its head.

"Pleeease, Kyogre? I worship you the most, you who beat Rayquaza!"

Jirachi immediately leaned into the act, playing cute and "accidentally" bringing that up again.

"Ooo~"

Kyogre got crit by that soft, sweet telepathy on the spot. It lifted its head with a low songlike cry, signaling Jirachi to climb on.

"Hehehe~"

Jirachi happily floated up to perch on Kyogre's head, grinning so wide its face was about to split.

"Waaah!!"

Over Jirachi's excited squeals, Kyogre let out a deeper cry, flapped its massive fins, and soared out over the endless ocean before diving straight into the sea.

Kyogre returned to its rightful domain—the deep. Whether Jirachi could actually swim was another question.

But with Kyogre there, there was nothing to worry about.

"This little one's pretty sharp, huh."

The sea breeze blew gently, lifting Caitlin's long blonde hair in soft waves. It made for a very picturesque scene.

Her words were obviously loaded. Whether Jirachi was naturally airheaded or secretly devious, it had Kyogre hooked like a fish on a line.

"Jirachi's a very pure Pokémon… probably."

Damian rubbed his chin. Honestly, he felt Jirachi's lines had been way too effective on Kyogre.

If he remembered right, Jirachi was a little playful and mischievous, but fundamentally innocent, not one to scheme… right?

Though if it were really that pure, why did it call Kyogre "big fish" with him, then switch to "Kyogre" when talking to Kyogre's face?

That was a little suspicious.

Who'd gone and corrupted his adorable Jirachi baby?

Damian fell into deep thought. Had someone been secretly giving Jirachi lessons in "tea art" behind his back?

"Damian, do you have any wishes for Jirachi?" Lillie asked curiously.

"I do, actually. A small one. What about you two, Lillie, Caitlin?"

Damian chuckled. He did have a little wish—but strictly speaking, it didn't really count as one.

He knew Jirachi's wish‑granting had limits, so he wasn't planning to ask for anything too unreasonable.

"Mmm… I do have a tiny little wish…"

Lillie's cheeks flushed as something clearly came to mind. She turned her head a bit, unable to meet Damian's eyes.

Her voice was so soft Damian could barely hear it.

"I do as well."

Caitlin, on the other hand, admitted it readily, though her gaze also drifted away.

"Oh? What are you wishing for?" Damian was genuinely curious.

"A girl's secret. Even you don't get to know, Damian."

With a perfect little smile, Caitlin shot him down without mercy.

"Fair enough." Damian shrugged, not pushing.

Girls having secrets was normal. Even if Caitlin wished for her chest to go up two cup sizes, Damian wouldn't be surprised.

In that respect, Caitlin was pretty similar to Cynthia. Her aura, face—both flawless. Her figure was slender and soft, like she might snap if you hugged her too hard.

Their only "flaw" might be their chest line. Lillie fell in that category too.

Of course, small could be very cute as well. Delicate had its own charm.

He definitely didn't mind.

About ten minutes later, Kyogre returned with Jirachi riding atop it.

"Waa!! That was amazing, thank you, invincible Kyogre~!"

Jirachi floated back to Damian's side and plopped down on his shoulder like it lived there, chirping happily at Kyogre.

Kyogre nodded, very satisfied. This Jirachi really knew how to talk. It liked it—a lot.

Then Kyogre returned to its Cherish Ball of its own accord.

"Happy now?" Damian poked Jirachi's soft cheek, smiling.

"Hehe~ It felt so good, Damian~ The seafloor is super pretty. There were so many awesome‑looking Corsola and Wishiwashi."

Jirachi's adorable childlike voice was bubbling with excitement. For something that only woke seven days out of every thousand years, this gorgeous, mysterious undersea tour had been a first.

Yeah, all that over‑the‑top praise for Kyogre had definitely been worth it.

"As long as you liked it. Come on, I'll take you home."

Sensing Jirachi's joy, Damian's mood lifted as well.

"Mmm‑hmm~ Okay."

Jirachi's big eyes curved into little crescents—ridiculously cute.

Back at Caitlin's villa, Jirachi floated around everywhere, fascinated, its curiosity pure and unfiltered.

Lillie followed along, patiently explaining everything.

This wasn't technically Jirachi's first time in the villa—its purple crystal form had been here a long while.

But that was obviously not the same experience.

In the kitchen, after Lillie finished explaining what a rice cooker did, she stole a careful glance at Damian and Caitlin chatting on the living room sofa.

"Jirachi, Jirachi."

"Mm? What is it, Lillie?"

Jirachi was frowning thoughtfully while brandishing a spatula like a wand. At her call, it tilted its head toward Lillie.

"Could you help me with one little wish? Just one."

Lillie raised her index finger, speaking softly.

She didn't have time to wait. Last night Lusamine had called—Lillie would have to return to Alola in the next few days.

And she and Mr. Damian had made zero "progress"!!

More than once, she'd wanted to find a chance to confess to Damian, but Caitlin was always at his side, which drove Lillie crazy.

Miss Caitlin was just too much. Aside from when she was sleeping, she was practically glued to Mr. Damian, leaving no chances for Lillie to be alone with him.

Unforgivable!!

A girl's sixth sense was sharp. Lillie could feel it—Caitlin's feelings for Damian were not pure.

That made her a potential rival.

For herself—and for her dear friend Selene—Lillie felt she had to make a move before heading back to Alola.

"Eh? A wish? Mmm… sure. What does Lillie want?" Jirachi blinked and agreed without a second thought.

"Really?" Lillie's eyes lit up.

"Really. I like Lillie. I don't have a lot of energy yet, though, so if it's a hard wish, could you wait two days? If I soak up more starlight, I can pull off bigger stuff."

Jirachi was very straightforward. Its power definitely had limits.

Tonight was its first night awake. It had only absorbed a little comet energy. There was still a lot it couldn't do.

"It's okay. My wish is simple!"

Lillie was delighted, forcing herself to keep her voice down.

"Then tell me. I can totally make it happen."

The Wish Maker sounded absolutely confident.

"Um… it's just…"

But at the crucial moment, Lillie suddenly felt shy. She tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.

"?" Jirachi tilted its head, puzzled.

"Um, could you make Mr. Damian…"

"Damian?"

"Could you make Mr. Damian fall in love with me?"

Lillie's face flamed red. For someone as thin‑skinned as she was, the words were almost impossible to get out.

But she squeezed past the embarrassment and finally said it.

"Eh?"

Jirachi chewed its fingertip, looking completely lost.

"Fall… in… love…"

Its big round eyes were full of confusion. "Fall in love with Lillie"?

For Jirachi, who'd never experienced anything like romance, those words were a bit too abstract.
