Chapter 62 - The Weight of Being Seen

The territory did not celebrate.

That, more than anything, told Aurelia how deeply things had changed.

There were no cheers, no howls of victory, no surge of collective relief. Wolves dispersed slowly after the figure withdrew, conversations hushed and fragmented. Some lingered in small clusters, others retreated alone, shoulders tight, eyes distant. Whatever had crossed the boundary had not left triumph behind.

It had left a consequence.

Aurelia remained where she was long after most had gone, standing at the edge of the clearing as the last echoes of tension faded into something quieter—but heavier. The bond beneath her skin no longer hummed with alertness alone. It carried weight now. Awareness layered with responsibility.

Mira stayed with her, arms folded, gaze fixed on the treeline where the watcher had vanished.

"They didn't threaten us," Mira said at last.

"No," Aurelia agreed. "They measured us."

"That's worse."

"Yes."
