Chapter 19 - JUST LIKE OLD TIMES

"You okay?"

That voice.

Fuck.

Raspy, deep, and dropped to this almost whisper, only meant for Day and Day only. Yes, he does want to preen and press closer.

Get a hold of yourself!

Clearing his throat, Day shifts in his seat. "Yeah, I am okay."

"hungry?"

"What?" Day looks at him with wide eyes, confused. He looks at the small bag Travis is extending to him. "What's that?"

"Something for you."

"I don't take stuff from strangers."

Travis doesn't say anything, doesn't seem offended either, and only continues watching him with patience. Day himself is lacking the longer his eyes are on him.

He suddenly feels too hot. Fuck, is the window open?

"I know you didn't have breakfast today. So take it."

"How do you know I didn't have breakfast?" he is getting annoyed. At himself and him. But, of course, his stomach decides to announce that, indeed, it didn't get nutrients by growling loudly; in fact, Day suspects the whole class hears it.

Can this morning get any worse?

Travis chuckles, looks at him endeared too and it does something to day that he isn't ready to even name, let alone observe closely.

"It's not poisoned, I promise. It will be good too. sweet."

It doesn't sound sexual; it shouldn't.

"Fine, if it shuts you up. I need to concentrate on this class anyway. I am barely passing as it is, and I need to pass at something," Day mutters, suddenly not understanding why he is telling him all this.

"Which classes are you struggling with?"

Day opens the carrier bag and sees a freshly made smoothie, all picked and looking so delicious that his mouth waters.

He forgets for a minute that he was supposed to act like this is nothing and gets it out, forgetting all about the straw.

Travis reaches inside the bag and then puts it in the glass jar, all ready for Day to start drinking his smoothie.

"All of my chosen major," Day shrugs, pouting when he remembers it. "doesn't matter anyway. It seems that I was way over my head with choosing such a challenging course. Everything is gibberish."

"I don't think you will fail; you are very bright. You will make it."

That complement washes over him, and he feels the gloom that has been stuck on his fiber ebb away, and suddenly the sun is shining, and the flowers are blooming. The first taste of the smoothie makes his taste buds explode.

"Mmh, this is so good," Day looks at Travis with wide eyes, at which Travis just continues watching him with this look, but a small smile curls on his lips.

"Drink it all, it will hold you until lunch."

He sighs in contentment, shifting in his seat just as the professor comes in and the class starts.

He does take notes in between the sips and stealing glances at the boy seated next to him. Travis is taking his notes seriously, side profile so sharp and fuck, so beautiful that Day misses some of the important parts in his own process.

He looks so hot. How can someone be this beautiful?

Giving up, and as his body decides that he needs to rest, he decides to lie down for a while on his desk. His tummy is full, and he feels so much better and lighter. Exhaling with a soft smile on his face, he lies down, closes his eyes, and just … naps.

Travis's heart clenches in yearning as he watches Day nap and snore so softly. He looks so beautiful. His health seems to have taken a toll on him, the dark circles around his eyes telling, plus the way he seemed aggravated and fussy.

He did finish the smoothie. It was one of the things Day loved when they were younger, always made him sleepy too afterward.

With light fingers, Travis traces Day's face. So gently as not to awaken the boy, and he feels him shift and press his thigh to his. Travis gets even closer, this far back, and the only ones alone in their row, he doesn't fear anyone spying on them.

Day sighs, face pressing onto his palm as he falls even deeper into his nap.

So Travis takes notes with his other hand, a fond, genuine smile on his face, for the first time in years, whenever Day drools all over his palm and then continues to snuggle into it.

The three hours are over quickly, and he wants not to move, but he also knows that Day wouldn't like it if he woke up and was in this position.

So, he takes his phone out, texting someone and then putting the book he was taking notes on Day's desk. It takes twenty minutes after the lecture ends for Liam to come into the class they are in, dropping off what he asked for.

"I had to bribe some poor freshman who looked like his back was about to break with all the books he was carrying for these," he says, handing Travis three books. "Sure, he will appreciate this?"

Travis looks at Day, nodding. "I am sure. I know him, and passing and proving those fuckers wrong is something he will do. I am just helping him put them in their places."

"Okay, well, I have to run. I have another class in… damn, it has already started. See ya!"

It's quiet after, leaving Travis alone with Day that he wishes he could carry him and take to his home, tuck him in his bed, and let him rest fully. Having him this close, touching him, after he thought that he had forever lost him …

"I still can't believe that I am with you," Travis whispers, caressing his cheek. "I missed you so much, my love."

He presses his lips on Day's forehead, ever lightly but lingering, feeling Day sigh before he pulls away.

"We will soon be together again, I promise."

Travis watches and keeps Day company for as long as he sleeps, and when he notices that he is rousing from his nap, he takes his leave, soundlessly.

Day opens his eyes, feeling so refreshed and like he had the best nap of his life, to an empty classroom.

Weirdly, he doesn't feel scared, and as he looks at the books left on his desk, all the notes he needs for his major, precise and so easy to understand.

His chest blooms with this warmth that he has never felt before.

Without even questioning their source, as he puts them in his bag, humming in joy. He is going to pass that next exam.

He doesn't notice the figure that walks away, finally, when he gets up and moves towards the back door, ready and refreshed for his next class.
