Alice's POV
The therapist's office smelled like lavender and old books, and I sat on the leather couch next to Bryan feeling more nervous than I'd felt in years, because opening up to a stranger about our marriage problems felt impossible.
Dr. Martinez sat across from us with a notepad and kind eyes that made me want to trust her even though I'd only met her ten minutes ago. She'd asked us some basic questions about how long we'd been married and how many kids we had, but now she was getting to the real stuff.
"I want you both to tell me what brought you here today," Dr. Martinez said looking between us. "Not the surface level stuff, but the real reason you're sitting in my office instead of at home with your children."
Bryan and I looked at each other, and I could see he was waiting for me to go first so, I took a deep breath and just said it.
