Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Silhouette in the Flames

Just as she was about to take a shower, she suddenly felt an inexplicable emptiness in her heart, as if something important was about to be lost.

Ran subconsciously looked at Hoshimiya Yuu. Seeing that he was fine, her anxiety slightly eased.

After a moment, the feeling of panic still hadn't disappeared.

Ran's delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly, and a look of urgency crossed her pretty face. She no longer felt like taking a shower.

Seeing this, Hoshimiya Yuu asked, "Ran, what's wrong?"

"Hoshimiya Nii-san, I feel like something bad is about to happen…"

Ran didn't know how to explain it; she didn't even know what was wrong herself.

It was just an intuitive, spur-of-the-moment feeling.

After a brief reaction, Hoshimiya Yuu instantly grew tense.

Others might not know about Ran's intuition, but how could he not know?!

On this island, besides Hoshimiya Yuu, only Asai Narumi was important to Ran. Since he was fine, clearly something had happened to Asai Narumi.

At the same time, Asai Narumi, having successfully killed Tatsuji Kuroiwa and completed her revenge, was heading toward the Community Hall.

Just over ten minutes ago, she successfully ambushed Tatsuji Kuroiwa.

The pot-bellied, middle-aged Tatsuji Kuroiwa was no match for Asai Narumi, especially since she was launching a surprise attack from the shadows.

Before Tatsuji Kuroiwa could even react, Asai Narumi had stabbed him through the heart with a surgical knife.

With his life threatened, Tatsuji Kuroiwa instinctively cried out for help.

Asai Narumi could have stopped him, but ultimately chose to ignore him.

This was the last enemy, so it didn't matter if she was discovered.

With a knife wound to the heart, Tatsuji Kuroiwa had no chance of being saved, even if help arrived now.

The location was not far from Tatsuji Kuroiwa's home. Other villagers nearby wouldn't hear him, but Reiko Kuroiwa and her companions should have noticed.

But until Tatsuji Kuroiwa took his last breath, no one came to his rescue.

While Tatsuji Kuroiwa was using the last of his strength to call for help, Reiko Kuroiwa and her two companions were busy, making it impossible for them to hear his cries.

After returning home, Reiko Kuroiwa took out the anger from being humiliated by Hoshimiya Yuu on her fiancé and the secretary.

Since she couldn't hook up with the handsome guy from Tokyo, she had to make up for the lack of quality with quantity.

As the adopted-in son-in-law, Reiko Kuroiwa's fiancé felt humiliated but could only endure it.

He knew Reiko Kuroiwa's habits before deciding to move in.

He wasn't marrying for love, but for money.

He had originally thought they would just lead separate lives, but he hadn't expected Reiko Kuroiwa to directly demand an encounter with another man today…

He wanted to explode in anger, but he suppressed it for the sake of the money.

As he and the secretary sandwiched Reiko Kuroiwa, he desperately tried to hypnotize himself that this wasn't his wife, which made him feel slightly better.

Reiko Kuroiwa didn't care what the men above and below her were thinking; she just wanted her own pleasure.

Physical pleasure wasn't enough; she fantasized about Hoshimiya Yuu begging for her after being taught a lesson, achieving a cerebral climax.

The secretary was even more indifferent. He had already been involved with Reiko Kuroiwa, so this was familiar territory.

The three of them were happily occupied, completely unaware that their greatest supporter had just died violently on the path less than two hundred meters away.

...

Hoshimiya Yuu's first reaction when he sensed something might happen to Asai Narumi was that it was unlikely.

It had only been half an hour since they parted ways. Could something have happened so quickly?

And Tatsuji Kuroiwa was still alive. Even if Asai Narumi had a death wish, she wouldn't act before killing Tatsuji Kuroiwa.

Could Asai Narumi have taken out Tatsuji Kuroiwa in such a short time?

But Ran's intuition could not be ignored…

"Ran, are you worried about Dr. Asai?" Hoshimiya Yuu asked directly.

"Yes!"

Ran's amethyst-like eyes widened, and she nodded emphatically.

The inexplicable anxiety instantly became clear upon hearing Hoshimiya Yuu's words. She urged, "Hoshimiya Nii-san, let's go find Narumi-nee quickly."

"Okay."

Hoshimiya Yuu didn't waste words. He gripped Ran's hand and immediately set off.

The two jogged along, and under Ran's guidance, they quickly arrived at Asai Narumi's home.

"She's not home. She probably hasn't been back."

With just a quick look, and with the help of [True Sight], Hoshimiya Yuu could determine that no one was inside without even needing to knock.

The feeling of emptiness in her heart intensified. Ran anxiously looked at Hoshimiya Yuu. "Where could Narumi-nee be?"

"I'm not sure. Let's check the clinic first."

Hoshimiya Yuu shook his head, and the two moved on again.

A few minutes later, seeing the tightly closed clinic, the two fell into thought.

"Let's go check the village chief's house."

Soon, Hoshimiya Yuu had another idea.

Since Asai Narumi wasn't at home or the clinic, she was most likely carrying out her revenge. Before they could find Tatsuji Kuroiwa's house, a blaze erupted in the direction of the Community Hall.

"Oh no!"

Seeing the orange-red flames lighting up the night, Hoshimiya Yuu's heart jolted.

He never expected Asai Narumi to act so quickly.

In such a short time, she had not only killed Tatsuji Kuroiwa but had also prepared for her self-immolation.

The Community Hall was by the sea, and it was late at night, making it very damp.

For the fire to be this large, it required time, and fuel like gasoline was essential.

Without time to explain to Ran, he immediately pulled her and sprinted toward the Community Hall.

Ran's physique and athletic ability were excellent. Even after a long day, she could still keep up with Hoshimiya Yuu's speed.

When they arrived at the Community Hall, the entire building was almost completely engulfed in flames.

"Hoshimiya Nii-san, I think I hear a piano."

Seeing the massive fire, Ran was about to call people to help put it out when she suddenly heard the sound of a piano being played amidst the crackling and roaring flames.

"Yes, Dr. Asai is playing it."

"Narumi-nee?!"

Looking at the towering flames, Ran was stunned. She finally understood why she had suddenly felt such an intense sense of loss and panic.

"Why… Narumi-nee, you promised you would turn yourself in? Then when you get out, we would go eat dessert, go to the amusement park, go karaoke…"

Ran knelt helplessly on the ground. The pleasant piano music now sounded like the saddest farewell in her ears.

Although his heart ached for Ran, Hoshimiya Yuu didn't have time to comfort her right now.

He looked sternly at the Community Hall engulfed in flames, desperately thinking about how to enter the blaze and rescue Asai Narumi.

The front door was definitely impossible; the fire was far bigger than he remembered.

Even Conan couldn't rush into this level of fire.

So, it could only be the window…

Hoshimiya Yuu had no time to hesitate.

Every second of delay, the fire grew larger, and the probability of a successful rescue decreased.

Helping Ran up from the ground, Hoshimiya Yuu led her to the back of the Community Hall.

This side faced the sea, was closest to water, and had a window that led directly into the piano room.

Separated by the orange-red flames, Hoshimiya Yuu could vaguely see Asai Narumi's silhouette, playing the Moonlight Sonata while shedding tears.

If I can see her, then it's manageable.

"Ran, wait for me here."

Hoshimiya Yuu released Ran's hand and said seriously, "I'm going to rescue Dr. Asai."

"Hoshimiya Nii-san, it's too dangerous." Ran was already in tears, her voice choked with sobs.

She desperately wanted to save Asai Narumi, but she didn't want Hoshimiya Yuu to risk his life.
