Chapter 67 - [67] The Deadly Grasp of Devil's Snare

Upon leaving the Ravenclaw common room, Vizette noticed something strange: people around him were pointing and whispering.

Even after walking past him, they would turn back, as if wanting to confirm something.

Anthony leaned closer to Vizette, saying with a mixture of envy and jealousy, "You're a celebrity now, after all, you defeated the troll."

"Absolutely!" Michael nodded. "I've heard several versions of the story today, and they seem quite different from what you told me last night."

"Several versions of the story?" Vizette asked, puzzled. "What do they all say?"

He was still thinking about his manuscript; it would be good if he could get inspiration from these stories.

Michael turned to Chris and asked, "Chris, do you remember what Ron and the others said?"

"Hmm, let me think…" Chris scratched his head. "They seem to be saying that the giant is quite unusual, much smarter than Flint, and can even throw wooden clubs to attack."

"Flint…" Upon hearing this name, Vizette couldn't help but chuckle.

As a member of the Ravenclaw team, he also knew about the teams of the other three houses, with Flint being the captain of the Slytherin team.

As a seasoned Quidditch fan, Anthony immediately understood what Vizette was laughing about.

He burst into laughter. "Gryffindor and Slytherin have always been at odds. I've seen that Flint a few times, and he does... look a bit like a troll, just too short."

"Are you even going to listen to me anymore?" Chris complained, clearly annoyed.

Michael quickly replied, "Of course I'll listen! Tell me quickly!"

With some people chiming in, Chris continued, "Vizette used a levitation charm to catch the stick, then threw it back, which blew the troll's head open."

"For some reason, the fallen giant came back to life, seemingly turning into a corpse, and even tried to take Vizette down with it."

"At such a critical moment, Vizette used a spell that emitted black mist and successfully dealt with the ghoul that had turned into a zombie."

Vizette touched his nose; he had reason to suspect that the story must have come from Fred and George.

Only Fred and George, as eyewitnesses, knew so many details.

"That fits the Gryffindor story perfectly," Terry commented. "They love stories of single-handedly defeating enemies, and those stories best exemplify courage."

Upon arriving at the greenhouse, several Ravenclaw girls gathered together, their faces beaming with excitement as they discussed something.

They would glance towards the door every now and then, then look disappointed and start chattering again.

The girls stopped chatting when Vizette and his group appeared at the door. They looked at Vizette with curious eyes and would cover their mouths and giggle.

Terry gestured towards the girls with his chin, "They came over to ask us several times this morning. If it weren't for Prefect Penelope stopping them, I bet they would have stormed into the dorms."

"Damn it!" Michael clenched his fist, looking utterly heartbroken. "When will I finally be the subject of their conversations again?!"

"When you get a 'T' on your final exams," Anthony teased. "When a Ravenclaw gets a 'T,' everyone else can use you to save the day when they want to explain why they didn't do well."

"I support you in doing that!" Chris said solemnly. "Not only will the girls talk about you, but we will also remember your 'great achievements'!"

The school bell rang, and Sprout, wand in hand, arrived at the greenhouse, with two large boxes floating behind her.

"Children, it's time for class!"

The two large boxes were different; one was an ordinary wooden box, while the other was coated with a thick layer of black lacquer.

"Let's open One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, turn to page 726, and learn about an extremely dangerous vine—the Devil's Snare!"

"They usually appear in dark and damp places, such as dense rainforests and miasma-filled swamps, which are their breeding grounds..."

"Remember! Be extremely careful of the Devil's Snare; they are incredibly cunning and can even disguise themselves..."

She picked up her wand and tapped the ordinary wooden box, which opened with a click.

Inside was a vibrant green vine that swayed back and forth like a crab's claw.

"This is a Christmas cactus, a common magical plant. It's vigorous and easy to care for; it can even survive a month without watering."

As a demonstration, she watered the Christmas cactus, and it immediately swayed happily, as if it were dancing.

"Okay, everyone please stand back." She cleared her throat and clapped her hands at the students. "I'm going to open another box, which contains the Devil's Snare…"

Sprout stepped back five meters, signaling the students to stand behind her, before waving her wand and dimming the greenhouse like dusk.

The dark wooden box was opened at this moment, and the magical plant inside looked very similar to the Christmas cactus. Not only were the vines emerald green, but the swaying motion was also almost identical, making it look harmless and interesting.

Sprout promptly reminded them, "It's the Devil's Snare, just disguised as a Christmas cactus... Now please take a closer look!"

She transformed a tissue into a sheepdog, urging it to slowly approach the Devil's Snare.

The students craned their necks, full of curiosity, eagerly anticipating what would happen next.

During her daily lectures, Sprout always seemed to be in a very cheerful mood.

Sprout seemed like a different person today; not only was her face serious, but her tone was also much more solemn.

Inspired by her, the students held their breath and dared not relax for a moment.

Vizette was also on high alert, using his Magic Eye and the Guardian Meditation Technique to carefully observe what would happen next.

With the blessing of the Magic Eye, the two plants in front of them underwent a slight change, displaying similar shapes of blurry magic circuits.

Using the basic Magic Eye, one could only see the magic circuits of magical materials;

For untreated magical plants and magical creatures, the magic circuits became much more blurred.

Sprout's sheepdog was getting closer and closer to the Devil's Snare.

The Devil's Snare, like the Christmas cactus next to it, seemed harmless, giving off a sense of calm before the storm.

Twelve feet... eleven feet... ten feet...

The students silently counted the numbers in their minds, estimating the distance between the sheepdog and the Devil's Snare.

Five feet... four feet... three feet...

When the sheepdog was less than a meter from the Devil's Snare, an astonishing scene unfolded.

The lush green of the vines instantly turned into a deep, dark green, like a swarm of frenzied snakes, intertwining and coiling to form a deadly black net that tightly bound the sheepdog.

Then, the Devil's Snare began to tighten, slowly squeezing the sheepdog's body, gradually constricting and crushing it...

It eventually turned back into a tissue.

Sprout drew her wand and whispered to the Devil's Snare, "Lumos!"
